Baldur's Gate 2 - full 6 man party, tough combat, tons of preparation and care needs to be taken during battles

Dragon Age O - 4 person party... only 3 classes

Leliana's Song - 3 person party

DA2?

I worry because I care.

6 person party FOR LIFE!:wizard:

If you believe the people who are freaking out and denouncing this game as Mass effect with swords, yes.   If not, maybe.

No info so far -no basis for discussion so far.

I don't see any reason why they should dump the 4 person party, though.

I say 4 people, plus pet. I never used dog, but giving us a dog slot, aswell as companion slots would be awesome.

Too make sure the console player's little heads don't explode from the complexity :?.  Of course, that would just be for console, which I unfortunately play on.

You have to remember that Baldur was using the D&D rules.

Oh I remember that very well.  The character development and combat was a great blend of computer game rules and that version of AD&D

I wish they would have kept it.

I really miss the dice roll logs from KOTOR even tho that was a 3 person limit.

I'm hoping it's 5 people. 5 seems to be the optimal amount. 6 is a crowd, 4 is not enough for these Baldur's Gate type of games

6 players allows you to level everyone, and interact with everyone even if the character sucks at combat.

In Origins I constantly use Leliana and Sten because I missed their backstories the first time, even tho Sten is kinda worthless.

I hate Shale but if I had 6 slots I'd spend time trying him out a little.

the "jump ahead 10 years" makes it sound less like a mass effect clone, than a fable 3 clone that is geared towards action than humor.

To tell a more immersive story with better cinematic experience.

I agree that the 6th party member usually ends up as redundant in terms of usefulness, but I'd be in favour of having an extra slot just for more banter.

I don't recall seeing time progression as one of the main selling points for Fable 3.

Where did you read anything about "jumping" ahead ten years?

Oh yeah.  Nowhere.

I'd like 6. The game's difficulty settings could be modified based on party size as well.

Remember, it's optional. Don't like it? Don't add the final two to your party.

In a classic RPG that has balanced combat, you need 6

1 healer
1 tank
1 Damage (rogue/wiz/bard/ranger)
1 utility (shaman/chanter/bard/druid)
1 porter/gater (mage/wiz/druid)
1 crowd control (chanter/bard) or another damage

SO imagine in DAO more enemies, smarter enemies, that required lots of stunning, rooting, prison, and better crowd management instead of

- kill mages first
- kill everything else however you want

more companion slots is better at least in my opinion, since my combat strategy grew around certain characters which made me abandon others. And hey, the more the merrier!

since it takes place over 10 years there will probably be more party members than in dragon age: origins

imo there shouldn't be more party members. you see, the problem i can think of is that the game can get impossibly hard at some point. not everyone wants to change the played character every 4 secs. a better way would be t make a difficulty much harder then "nithtmare" so those who really want a challenge get one.

They'll probably be 4 again. They've said that it will have the same combat and that it will be recognisably Dragon Age which also seems to support this. And Maker's breath not Baldur's Gate combat! I can't even make it to sodding Nashkel without being murdered by a bloody tree!

I can't say I ever needed 6 in any of the IE games, at least one or two of my party ended up contributing very little and I picked them only because they were interesting. Most NPCs can fill more than one of those roles that you listed quite easily.

You forgot Jade Empire - 1 man party, with camp followers.  Yes, yes, you could have an ally "fight" with you or "aid" you in combat - but it might as well have been the NPCs in any game who happen to be in a fight you are part of - you don't control them.

Put me in the  "6 person party FOR LIFE!" group. :wizard:

Yeah Jade Empire was like, as bunch of people at camp you can talk to, and 1 Buff (player meditating)

Probably the same, but I would not mind a five person party. Six might be too many, but I'm not against it.

Lowering to three would be very annoying to me. I don't think its likely though, personally. Four allows for one of each class and some flexibility beyond that - its a balanced number in that sense and they will probably stick with it.
