I say 4 people, plus pet. I never used dog, but giving us a dog slot, aswell as companion slots would be awesome.
^ Pet slot should not count as a companion

imo there shouldn't be more party members. you see, the problem i can think of is that the game can get impossibly hard at some point. not everyone wants to change the played character every 4 secs. a better way would be t make a difficulty much harder then "nithtmare" so those who really want a challenge get one.
That makes no sense whatsoever. How does adding a super nightmare mode even help?
This is a tactical RPG anyways. If you can't micromanage your team, maybe it's time to pick up Halo or Call of Duty.

Something like that would be great. X number of party members (say 4) and 1 slot for an animal companion (or summoned creature that sticks with you till you dismiss them.)
I can be happy with 4 or 5 member parties, but 3 doesn't feel like an RPG group to me (traditionally, you have 4-6 players in most such D&D-style games) it's come to be the sci-fi action rpg model for me (KotOR and ME.)

6 is just too much in the current system, it'd make combat way too easy. (As if Awakening wasn't a breeze to begin with)

Baldur's Gate 2 - full 6 man party, tough combat, tons of preparation and care needs to be taken during battles
Dragon Age O - 4 person party... only 3 classes
Leliana's Song - 3 person party
DA2?
I worry because I care.
6 person party FOR LIFE!
Well we passed through a two person phase in NWN and a three person phase in KOTOR/Mass Effect as well.
I cannot imagine they would nerf the party size.

It's possible for the difficulty of monsters to auto-adjust based on how many party members present. If you solo, they'll be significantly weaker. If you start adding party members, they grow stronger.

Scaling doesn't change the fact you're going to have more stuns, more buffs/debuffs, stronger focus fire etc.
They'd have to make characters half as strong as they are in DA:O to have the 6 man party work, (unless they increased the number of enemies but DA:O already had tons in some areas) and even then that'd be a simple fix.
DA:O's talents, leveling system, encounters etc are all designed around 4 party member encounters. They'd have to basically start from scratch if they make the jump to 6 members. (Or put out an imbalanced game like Awakening)

Allow me to first state that I am NOT bashing consoles, as so many of their fans automatically assume when you bring up their very real limitations.
Dragon Age started as a PC game then was ported over to PS3 and 360 in the last bit of development.
It's a well known fact that BioWare had to do some tweaking to the number of enemies in DAO. In some cases, they reduced the number of enemies on screen and made the ones there harder (which made the game easier, but that's another consideration).
By lowering the party to three, BioWare would then have an excuse to reduce the number of enemies the party fights at a time, since it would be silly otherwise.
Now, I hope this doesn't happen, but everyone calling it an impossibility that DA2 will have four or more party members are just kidding themselves.
Personally, I'd prefer five members as well, since one almost has to take two mages--at least in DAO--or else drown yourselves in poultices (that you drink for some reason...).

Considering DAO is only balanced from levels 1-14, they are already going to have to do some serious tweaking.
The psuedo non linear level scaling and level caps were a bit tricky. If you don't follow the "best path" the game is either way too hard at first, or way too easy for the last 10 hours

Well they didn't have to make arrangements for us in terms of party size in DAO, so they shouldn't have to here.Altima Darkspells wrote...
Erm, actually, there is a reason that they would lower the number of party members: consoles.

more would make it alot harder to manage on the consoles, and would slow the game down on the pc
less would be dissapointing, and would make alot of areas less entertaining
just my opinions though, will buy the game anyway hahaha

i actually had my main guy (rogue as a beastmaster or w/e), the rogue elf guy also specced that way, and leliana specced the same way. it was quite HECTIC having 3 pets PLUS 4 characters. very stressful while walking through doors

Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, and Planescape: Torment are the greatest RPG's ever made. They all had 6 characters per party and were not difficult to play.

Because they had pretty much finished Dragon Age by the time EA 'convinced' BioWare to make PS3 and 360 ports. Reducing the party size to three would have created all sorts of complications, in terms of balancing battles. It would have completely destroyed the three-way conversations they had. Most of all, it would have been a big dealbreaker for people on the fence between the console or PC version.
Beyond the toolset and mods, anyway.
I also hope they do not nerf party size, but it is possible that they will.
