Using an Arcane Warrior, you may play the game with massive plate, and there are some fatigue friendly sets in the game (eg: Wade's Superior, Cailans, Wardens, etc).

That said, it is hard to best Evons mail & Wade's Superior heavy mail combo: 21 armor for only 3 fatigue. It may not be massive, but it is quite effective.

All massive armour is going to cost a fair amount of fatigue. Massive armour apparently draws aggro more than heavy as well so your mage will be kept busy.

As Elhanan said, Evon's plus Wade's heavy is about as good as you can get. It offers good protection, looks decent and has a very modest hit to fatigue.

Calilan's armour is pretty decent for a mage. Throw in the Maric's blade/Cailan's shield and you should be good to go.

Its gonna be a compromise, either equip whats best or what looks cool.
Cailens yeah is pretty good but Warden Commander armor is terrible except for the boots.
Its too bad your on the Xbox 360, theres some really good armor mods out there like.

I personally like the look of both Cailan's and the Warden Commander's armor sets, but my current mage is a female elf, and having never tried arcane warrior, I promptly made her one and gave her Cailan's arms. The result: OMG, that armor set looks silly on a skinny elf female.
So now she is once again a pure caster mage until I find an armor set, which looks good (I don't like the look of the Evon and Wade sets, and even though functionality should play a role, for me feeling good about the look of my character plays a huge part as well).

Runic armor is broken for Steam 1.03 anyway.

And Wade's Superior Dragonscale + Evon the Great's Mail is 3% Fatigue, so there's not much of a compromise.

Yes its 3% but the person was looking for stuff that looked really cool.   Evon+Wade is rather bland.

I go arcane warrior and equip a shied + mace. Download the no sheating to cast mod, and you get a heavily armoured caster mage

the melee arcane warrior is just weak, but is a good tank

yeah searching the projects here or mods at dragonage nexus will turn up some good results. Unfortunetly the OP ZMJ10 is on the 360 so no mods for him.

Theres a arcane warrior mod, I forget the name that tweaks the combat magic spell so that it also claculates your magic into attack score as if was str so you dont miss as much.

Evons and Wade's combo looks a lot like Ser Cauthrian's kit, which makes the appearance a lot better, IMO.
