hmmm....interesting stuff......especially about the Templars being in control.

all the more reason for me to play as a Mage Hawke!! :)

That means that Hawke either must wrestle Kirkwall and the Freemarches from the Templar's grip, or work with them, wich would be especially difficult if he is a mage. Interesting also the thought what he was doing in Lothering then and if ít had to do with the Templars there ...

plus....your sister is a mage...and we can't change that.  So, I'm assuming that's going to come into play in the story somehow.  Maybe your sister being a Mage affects your decision to leave Lothering.......

also....since the Templars control Kirkwall......it would be cool if there was a portion of the story where you and your sister had to "disguise" yourselves in the city so the Templars won't know your mages......maybe a period where you're forced to NOT use any magic whatsoever............lol

I......I......see potential in this story.......Posted Image

Hm I didn't read that about the sister yet, I was too exited about the timeline. Gonna do that now, think she could be the girl from the cover art?

no....don't think she is.  In one of the threads about the German Article ( which revealed you have a sister ), there's a link to a pic of her I believe.  But I don't think she is the cover art girl.

I'm thinking that girl ( whoever her identity is ) will be the antagonist.......

Just found out Flemeth will be in the game too, so it's probably her. Half dragaon, half human ... very likely Posted Image

so erm..if the tevinter mages got to the City once...what's stopping them from doing it again ?is that why the Chantry watches them so closely ?

the golden city is tainted now I think, it is somewhere in he fade and haunted by darkspawn spirits (like those you fight in the fade) I think, I could be wrong though. it is really hard to say what is truth or legend or simply a chantry lie. They call it The Black City now, and the Chantry waits for the Maker to return and clean it up or something.

Kirkwall is a Tevinter city? Oh that's excellent. I was just thinking "I hope we get more awesome and impressive buildings in DA2!" I love how much exposition about Kirkwall is in this. The Circle of Kirkwall is in an iron grip? This means either Hawke becomes a circle mage or that mage Hawke gets an AWESOME subplot! :D

Hmm, what didn't strike me until now is how similar to the real life Great Schism the regular Chantry/Imperial Chantry split is.

I'm beginning to be convinced that the antagonists of DA2 will be human rather the Darkspawn. Orleisians anyone? I'd also like to say that as an exercise in world building Dragon Age is fantastic and will set the standard for fantasy RPG's for years.

Except that the Maker is nowhere to be found....through all this years since Andraste died..u would think she would make the Maker change his mind on humanity or at least make a miracle happening....that is why i love the lore....there is no reason to belive the Maker exists....there is even an interesting theory on this forum that the City is actually Arlathan

the Tevinters destroyed the elven city, and it was not in the fade. I think the golden city was in the fade though. maybe the fade is the real world and the mortal world is the illusion, who knows, and all life was created in the fade by the maker

also possible that the maker actually died when the tevinters invaded. it is only known that the tevinters returned as darkspawn and the maker disappeared. That the Maker left because humankind failed him is only a Chantry version of the truth. so ... maybe there isn't even a maker anymore. we may never find out

This:

9:21 Dragon Age: Lord Marlowe Dumar is appointed the new Viscount of Kirkwall, replacing Perrin Threnhold, a tyrant killed by the city’s templars “for the good of all.” It is noted by many, however, that Threnhold’s abuses were only opposed after he tried to have the templar order expelled. It is said that Dumar holds power at the sufferance of the templars, and that their order has grown extremely powerful in Kirkwall during his reign. They have become the center of Chantry strength in eastern Thedas and hold their Circle of Magi in a terrifying, iron grip.

...makes being a mage in the Free Marches very interesting...

Indeed. The Ferelden Templars always seemed a bit cuddly. Well, maybe not Cullen, but everyone still WANTED to cuddle him for some reason.... :P

Some people accuse it of being unoriginal, but I rather like the real-world allusions in Dragon Age lore. For example, the Great Schism between Tevinter and Orlais and the Exalted March is quite similar to the schism between the Catholic and Orthodox churches and the Fourth Crusade.

This would explain how the Old Gods could maybe offer the people more of a worldy reward for service than the Maker who only rewards the worthy after they died. Also the mages speak of the Black City which is supposed to be in the Fade. When did the mages find it? I also want to know where the Maker went when he left it hehe. Questions, questions.

it is supposed ( still from the Prima Guide CE/ history section) that the first time Magister did enter the Fade was beetwen 1 TE and 500 TE in the Tevinter Calendar.
If you don't know what is the Tevinter Calendar, please consider that:
1195 TE (Tevinter Calendar) = 1:1 Divine (Chantry Calendar)

Citation from PGCE:
"1 TE:....History records that elves and humanity were hostile...The elves responded by retreating from human contact, and Tevinter thus flourished and spread. The first "dreamers" learned the use of lyrium to enter the Fade from elven captives, and these dreamers later became the first of the Imperium's ruling magisters."

So, we can suppose the first time the magister did enter the fade it was quite 2 thousands years ago ( 900 from the chantry calendar+ 1195 years from the Tevinter Calendar)

The difference in DA I think is that the schism is because of magic. The Tevinters are rather fond of magic so I assume their Priests are also mages. The Chantry doesn't have mages in their ranks. This also is addressed in the Tevinter version of Andraste which says she was a powerful mage, and the Chantry probably says she is wasn't.

i am starting to think too that Andraste was a mage....maybe DA2 will offer some answers

I liked that about Dragon Age, how it never made it definitive that there is or isn't a god(s).

Is there a potential "Friday the 13th" purge of the Templars in the near future?
