Placing a concept in a video game isn't always about trivializing it. In DA the elves are highly oppressed and treated as either slaves or third class citizens - does this mean they were trivializing it or using the idea to add depth to their setting? Torture and Rape are also mentioned, if not outright shown, in the game. You murder a child to prevent it from becoming a demon. These are potentially disturbing things put it the game to make it richer, and press home the dark themes. None of those things are particularly trivialized, yet they have their place.



Entertainment media isn't only about giggles and mindless fun, it has long held a place in society as a means to address hard ideas and make people really think and question. In fact, one might easily go so far as to say it is the responsibility of good fiction to ask hard questions.

These are all themes prominent in any good dark fantasy literacture.

I don't support this but he's right, fantasy tales often tell of such things, and for those of you who are 300 fans, did you know Spartans thought it was more honorable to sleep with a man or his own son or brother? No discredit to a great movie, or the Spartans as great warriors, my point is people used to do some things that modern society views as vulgar and tasteless, IMHO I have to agree with modern society we stopped this kind of behavior for a reason.

I wouldn't mind. I'm not saying this from a scary neckbeard basement dweller pervert point of view, but more along the lines of it be interesting to see if Bioware could handle it in a mature manner. Their relationships in DA, were to be blunt crap. It was for the most part pandering to the teenagers who wanted to see hot naked women, whom they could ask for sex. It be far better if we could explore the deeper stuff behind relationships in a fantasy setting, you know stuff like how a traumatised killer who's had his entire family/friends destroyed by the blight is going to handle emotional stuff.



But ****, it'll be "KISS ME, THEN SHOW ME UR ****** PLZ" all over again, followed by an uncomfortable sex scene which you'd be humiliated if caught watching.

It may be interesting, though, to witness a relationship between Bethany and one of the NPCs in your party - and to be able to comment or give advice occasionally.

This has nothing to do with what I did, or would do or not do.  The idea is about adding depth of roleplay and pushing boundaries in a entertainment medium.  There have been fantasy authors - George R.R. Martin to name the most recently recognizable - whom have had incestuous characters in their novels but whom, I seriously doubt, ever engaged in incest themselves.  Fiction, it's what's for dinner.  

If not said outright, it would be nice if there were enough ambiguous dialog to let an rper infer that it might be going on ... and maybe have some npcs question the possibility ... to add another potential level to your character.

And for me, there's a huge difference between reading about an act from a third person perspective, and then having it trivialized in a VG, where you'd have to instigate it from a first person perspective, to entertain kids with nothing better to do than fantasizing about every woman they se in the game.

This game will be +18 at least in the US for starters. Don´t want it nerfed because some parents don´t control what their children play.
If for some reason they go this route I just don´t follow it. You can do far worse things in any BW game than incest, assuming it is consensual. Sexual violence sems to be something we won´t be allowed thankfully.

I never suggested it be depicted as a commendable act - you are the one to leap to this conclusion.  Likewise, I think you are obsessed to the point of blindness by the idea that this is nothing more than a desire to sleep with every woman (or man, no reason to leave anyone out) by some sex starved child.  I am not a child and have not been for a very long time - nor am I blinded by my inability to see value in something I myself might not approve of.  But, I am not going to reply to you further on this, as I do not want the thread to devolve into a hatestorm for trolls or flamers.  This is a valid idea for which I was hoping to get impressions.

While I doubted it would, thank you all the same for confirmation, Mr Gaider. The very idea of it freaked me out.

But.. the idea of slaughtering thousands of enemies, covering the enemy in grease then setting fire to them, freezing them to death, or laying traps which pierce them from the floor with a massive spike isn't going to freak you out?

Really ? It's kind of a very important plot point in "A song of ice and fire". I thought that book (series) was kind of what you were shooting for with DA.

I personally wouldn't care. But for those of you who think that something like this won't ever happen in gaming, realize that mainstream games have come a long way. Reservations against topics like violence/gore and religious subjects are not as strong as they were 10-15 years ago.



I'm sure it'll inevitably make an appearance in some future game. Who knows how long.
