I would like to point out that not only the most vile people in all of creation are going to engage in incest. Sure it is not something that western society likes to even think over much about, but under the right circumstances one could see a loving - though still dysfunctional - relationship manifesting between siblings. I once played a game called "Kana" where the incest storyline was an intensely emotional issue about not only inappropriate closeness between siblings, but engaging your sister in an experience she'd never have without that. It is considered one of the most intense and emotionally powerful games of its type and you will find virtually no one who has played the game that won't defend the value of it in the story. (predictably, though, people whom have not played the game almost universally fail to understand how it could be done well)

yes, but i think "good" incest just wouldn't fit the DA universe. thatfore too many humans are just too disgusted by historical facts. thats btw why no historic accurate movies of ancient griece are successfull. besides the biggest problem is that in america a incredibly big society of total madmans (just remember GTA: San Andreas: the whole game gave the player the possibilety to run through a city, kill everyone and thatfore be a night in prison. n problem at all. a mod came out that allowed sex. now THAT was a big problem.)

Only example of incest in fantasy in a not negative is in Discworld. In ASoI&F it´s not a valid example. One character is Stupid Evil and the other bitter to the core. When Jaime gets better the relation kind of stops.

Well, actually, they said they used "A Game of Thrones" as inspiration for the game. There's incest in that. Keep in mind, people, we're talking about a very dark, gritty, medieval-esque setting.

That people behave by the norms of our society is...odd. It wasn't that way in real life, and it shouldn't be that wya in the game.

Of course, they won't actually allow incest, and they probably shouldn't because then we'd have some idiotic investigation by Congress into video games, but for "authenticity", if you will, to the setting then it would not be out of place.

You and I think alike, or at least have similar tastes in literature.

The Dragon royal family perpetuate through incest. All of them. It's not only Jaime and Cersei.

I really don't understand how this is any more disturbing than running around in a game where you shoot innocent bystanders, steal their cars and just wreck havoc on a city. (Grand Theft Auto series) I have nothing against this however, as I think what you do in a game does not portray who you are as a person. People play games for many reasons, one is the suspension of disbelief. The fact that we can do things in a game that we could or would never do in real life.

That being said, incest played a big role in history. Many royal families, of all people, resorted to incest - and if you happen to be a Christian, how exactly do you think 7 billion people spawned from just two? It was not a forbidden topic in Sparta as well, as Spartans often commited incest between half brothers and sisters, and in Sparta - heterosexuality was actually looked down upon, and men in companies had to secretly meet with mistresses.

Though I would not pursue this path, and would not ever commit incest in real life, I find it hard to believe how people find it so appalling, especially one of the lead writers for this game...

Would you really want to have an intimate relationship with Cersei???  Think about this carefully.  And Jaime's story is redemption through a fall from grace, rather than rising to power as Hawke apparently does.  People would go nuts if their characters had to go through the things he suffers, guaranteed.

It's quite telling that most people aren't offended by impregnating an evil woman with a god-child that could very well doom all of humanity... but THIS is somehow "icky."

People are far more forgiving of mass evil and pure malevolence then they are even the slightest deviation from social norms in regards to interpersonal relationships.

Mass murder of innocents, birthing demon gods for the sake of convenience, abominations spewing things out in the darkness of the earth = Acceptable.

Partaking in a relationship with more closeness then some are comfortable with = BAD BAD BAD.

I liked the A Song of Ice and Fire books, but that doesn't make this thread's request anywhere near appropriate for the game.

And what, pray tell, do you think the norms of Medieval society were, that were so different from our society in real life?  I will tell you - the norms of medieval society were determined by the Christian Church, and public violations had wide-ranging consequences.  For Catholics, I'm not sure about second cousins, but first cousins could only be allowed with a dispensation - anything closer was a violation of natural law.  For Orthodox, third cousin was the closest officially allowed.  In either case, a powerful figure violating these norms would be seen as offending God, and any major disaster in the realm would be blamed on the violation.

In my opinion incest would not fit in the Dragon Age world, because to be honest it isnt that dark. And even if the possibility existed, I would not pursue it. I just fail to see what the big deal is. Is murder and killing really that much more acceptable than incest?

But the point is that incest was a big part of history, and people are now looking at it like it's more disturbing than a man getting his head chopped off...

Is that not just a bit assb ackwards? Incest is not something I condone, however I find it hard to believe how appalling it is to some people when they have become completely desensitized to violence.

I don't think there is any American state where you can marry a sibling.

YES !!! I would love to play Tyrion. This line perfectly describes him:

"...All dwarfs may be bastards, yet not all bastards need be drwafs."
And with that he turned and sauntered back into the feast whistling a
tune. When he opened the door, the light from within threw his shadow
clear across the yard, and for just a moment Tyrion Lannister stood tall as a king.

Having such a character in a RPG -heck *playing* such a character in a RPG would be *awesome*.

Those dispensations were easy to get for the nobility, it seems.

And watch the results: Daeneys but also Vyseris (and maybe Jon but even if true that would be only half his blood)
In real life just search for the Habsburgs monarchy in Spain. It was even in their faces. And then there was a war to see who got the throne.
