@Narreneth, you're putting words in my mouth, but in even talking to you I broke my cardinal rule not to respond to posters who can't carry on a civil conversation. So we're done. It was my mistake for not even noticing that it was you making the "Mario" comment, or recalling who you were. Thanks for the reminder.
I have civil conversations with virtually everyone I talk to. I tried with you as well. You are equally (if not more so) inept at the civility thing. I'd be glad to have a civil conversation with you if you'd drop the "everyone is stupid except for me" approach you've been taking where I've crossed your path.

I don't like how the dialog options are labeled by good/bad/neutral. Morality is not as black and white as most people make it out to be.
That isn't what they're doing with this one. The labels are going to be relevant to the tone of the response. So it's the emotional attachment, rather than the moral attachment to the line.

To be fair, the Devs talked about this being an issue and addressed it in ME2. In ME2, there is no point where two different choices cause the same words to come out of Shepards mouth. Any time this might be the case, there are no conversation options.
Also to be fair, a lot of people pointed to that last sentance as one of the things that Bioware was doing to "kill RP".
But I'm not complaining about Shepard saying the same thing. I'm complaining about the set-up. Shepard is only saying the same thing so the CSEC Chief can get his "That's what worries me" line off. That's the point of the scene. It's a trap for the player, and it comes out of the writing. They do this in DA:O too when Alistair gets to be a smart-ass off things you say but you can't be snippy back.
Slightly off-topic (and I agree with your point), but I never felt that way talking to Alistair, I viewed the dialogue between my character and him as back-and-forth banter, rather than being railroaded into being "straight man" for his jokes. For example, when he brings up the Templar uniform, I read "Oh really? I don't believe I've ever seen you wearing it." as being a teasing way of calling him out on it rather than being played totally straight. "You should have been a mage then." even moreso.
Oh, right, I suppose I really ought to add something on-topic here. After having played through Leliana's Song (which seemed to be a test of sorts for the new dialogue system), I never felt that Leliana's response was out of line with the paraphrased choice I selected. Maybe I just didn't hit the choices that were out of line with the paraphrasing. But with choices like in that, along with the "intent" icon, I don't feel that we have anything to worry about.
And the problem wasn't something unique to the wheel either. I chose a dialogue option in the Paragon of Her Kind quest that I thought would let me hear out Branka's side of the story and allow me to try to prove to Oghren that we were doing what needed to be done, but it instead caused the other guy to freak out and attack - not what I had intended to do at all, I was on his side.

i dont think hawke looks that bad in this screesnhot
then again, i always liked the default shepard, since any custom characters by me looked like fish
if she doesnt change, then so be it, i will go default
... the main guy looks like Shepard with a different tan, hair, and a beard
also, the dialogue is totally Mass Effect, which is totally bad

And no, Hawke doesn't look anything like Shepard.

That said, I don't like the default Shepard. I also don't like the default Hawke. Doesn't matter, though, because they're customizable.

So we get a red fist for hostility. What other emoticons do you think we'll get? Perhaps a heart for romance and a smiley face for all those happy phrases.
That would be cute actually.
A nice broken, bleeding heart with an arrow though it for ending the relationship.

Personaly, I think Sheploo's pervert face would be more fitting for romance emoticons.

Well, you don't need to draw his face like that just take a photo.

I don't dislike it anyway, it works pretty well for ME; I only hope there are plenty of options, I find 3 options a bit too limiting in most cases.

My one concern about the wheel is if the little icon will imply consequences rather than just intent. For example, maybe one of the dialogue options looks like you're going to say something fairly reasonable, and the icon indicates a fight will start if you pick it. That would be off-putting.
There will be an explanation for what the emblems mean, you won't be stabbing in the dark. And since different people react differently to different situations, it is entirely possible that you try being nice to someone and get attacked. That's what makes the world feel fun and diverse. If everytime you were diplomatic you talk your way out of things there would be no point to the game.

You missed my point. Ideally, yes, that's how it will work. We'll see.
No, I didn't miss your point. That's why I mentioned there would be an explanation of the emblems in game.
You should always assume your responses will have consequences though. That's how these games tend to play out.
