One bonus provided by having a sister, is maybe your flight from Lothering was based, at least in part, on protecting her. That might quiet at least a few of the people who keep saying Hawke is by definition a coward for not staying and fighting the entire Blight on his/her own.

Could someone give me some information on Bethany? I seem to have totally missed her being revealed. Dev quotes would be nice :)

Here's a link to an English translation of the article in German.

The only confirmation I've seen is David Gaider saying she won't be romance-able. It's only an indirect reference, and technically he could be saying that the romance won't happen because there is no such character, but all-in-all it seems like the German article contains solid, accurate info.

Here's the link to Gaider's post if you're wondering.

You mean it had nothing to do with him being disturbed by the idea of people suggesting Hawke's sister to be romance-able?:o

I don't think our buddies at Bioware  are gonna kill Bethany off. That seems like the easy and cheap way out.

But jeez, that would be just way too cool to have a member of the PC's family traveling alongside him or her. I can see something like that having the potential to be really emotional and complex. We could end upplaying Big Brother/Big Sister - so if anyone decides that they have a crush on little Bethaboo, we could get all super protective and threaten off suitors (if we are the old sibling, anyway... which I kind of hope that we are). Maybe even pull a Zevran and sit her down to have a sex talk. I would get such a kick out of that, hah.

Good news, everybody!!! I checked the Bioware RPG Cliche Chart, and it is very possible that Bethany will be one of the two companions the hero ends up with after a devastating attack spins Hawke's life out of balance.

Although it's been confirmed that we won't be invited into an elite organization, and we aren't saving the world from a great evil, so maybe they're trying to stay away from cliches...

I'm pulling for you to make it out of Lothering, Bethany Hawke!

If she dies, it'll be in the very last battle.

If you strike her down, she will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine

If she's going to die, it will probably be in Lothering. Making her the first narrator.

Don't you have to be living to narrate? Or are you also suggesting she's going to be like kristoff?

She won't meet her Maker in the tutorial at least. Too much potential there.

Good point. What if her mage abilities manifest for the first time during the attack, too? I don't know. I could see Hawke being more interested in getting his/her apostate sister to safety than sticking around to fight a Blight.

Who knows.  She could narrate their happy life in Lothering before the darkspawn raid or it could be about their seeking refuge there.  If she's the first to go, then the narration gets picked up by a new party member.   I hope that's not the case :crying:

Although its possible, I think it is unlikely as it would show a repetition in the DA story. Both had people die in the beginning of the games. I think they have already said too much about Bethany (even though it was only one sentence) for her to die super early. Have her die later in the game--right when you connect with her. More dramatic

I wouldn't want any party members to 'have' to die, especially if they were your character's sister. That would be pretty bad. I'd have no problem with her death being 'possible', and you have to go out of your way to prevent it, that would probably be pretty cool because it would give you a chance to really make a difference in saving her life. Just so long as it's possible for her to still be alive at the end of the game, that's all that would matter to me, regardless of how hard it was to achieve (the harder it is the better, it'll make it more satisfying when you succeed).

I don't know what would happen if Gaider were on the Mass Effect team and had to deal with the Tali fanbase.

You could literally hear his brain cracking in those posts.

I thinking she'll turn out to be a carmine(for any GOW fans here) who will end up dying a gruesome death very early in the game.

Just so long as they don't do that stupid ****g Fable crap where you spend the entire game trying to find her, and then kill her for no reason.

IT was not for nothing, you get a big red sword.Man that sword was awesome...

I don´t think they will kill her right on the start of the game, they will kill her later when the player is emotionally   attached  to her.

Just gameplay wise, it would be mighty cruel of Bioware to kill your mage! Who supports you with their fire magic!! Or whatever the quote was..

I know a lot of people play as mages, but for those of us who prefer rogues and warriors, we need every mage NPC we can GET.
