If i was stranded on an island and I could only bring 2 video games it would BG and BG2.

also, we were able to play as one of many races in it, and the character got transferred over from BG1 to BG2

 What
DAO proved is
that level scaling can work when it's done right.
.

How
did it prove that since level scaling wasn't done
right in
DAO?  It's certianly not as broken as Oblivion, but it's still
bad.

I
think you didn't get what I was saying. In
DAO level scaling
actually works. In Oblivion it made for
silly situations (I
could list a few but that would be a waste of time).

I prefer no
level scaling (hence my point about BG).

I know
Oblivion level scaling is the worst, what I was saying is DAO also has
level scaling that is broken.  It's just not broken quite as badly

I've
got the feeling that any level scaling would be broken for you and I
must say that I share that sentiment somewhat. At least in DAO the flaws
are not glaring. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/joyful.png[/smilie]

Taking out a Revenant is easier at level 20 than it is at level 8, that's for sure.

Yes, DAO scaling flaws are not a huge problem, just annoying.  Oblivion's level scaling ruins the game.  It turns an RPG into God of War 4

The problem w/ DAO scaling

ONce you hit level 14, and have good gear,  almost everything is too easy.

I tried tanking the Andaraste w/ a dual wield warrior, Wynne, Morrigan,   Leliana

I did not do any resist fire balms

Did not outfit any resist fire armor

I had the Adoh axe of 20% fire resist

Difficulty - Hard.  PS3 (I know PC is harder, hear me out)

I had everyone set to hold, was trying to main tank from the side.  I accidentally took everyone off hold and had to go rescue Leliana because I didn't disable her melee tactics (want her to archer)

Took my eyes of my main character DW tank, and he died.

Great, I was thinking.  I actually lost! but before I gave up, I was just seeing what I could do w/ the Wynne/Morrigan/Leliana set up

I have Morrigan as an Arcane warrior, only 1 skill point.  Still outfitted in mage gear.  Albeit the best mage gear in Origins

Wynne is Spirit Healer/Blood mage  1 pt into blood mage.  Good gear,  support spells only (heal, group heal, revivie)  only like 2 offensive spells (toss rock,  arcane bolt)

Leliana is Rogue/Bard  half archer half dual wield.

So my tank goes down, I start micromanaging more.

Morrigan draws most of the aggro, next thing I notice, I'm TANKING W/ Morrigan and don't even have her set up in Arcane warrior gear, pure mage gear.

She is healing herself w/ LESSER heal potions.  Because she barely has any CON lesser heal pot is almost enough

I also have her set up to Animate Dead, but no dead around so she is petless even as a "walking/bomb-necro build"  my best skills are worthless for her against the dragon

I ran out of time to Revive the tank, so I kept going w/ the 1 archer, 2 mage set up.

After a few minutes of spam healing/nuking w/ morrigan and making sure Leliana is shooting the right type of arrows... I win.

I took down the dragon at level 14 with the TANK DEAD.   My mage tanked the dragon... without armor, without fire resist and with Wynne doing terrible DPS

My best party is actually DW warrior main toon,   Morrigan, dual wield leliana and Barky the Dog or Alistair for a pure defensive tank.

None of that was needed.

I bet I could actually just solo the dragon w/ Morrigan.  That is not great balance IMO.

My first time through the game The whole party died and I solod the dragon w/ my 2H warrior.

Was I really that strategic?  I didn't even buff up, I was saving them for the 2nd attempt (Warm balms) and left my fire resist gear in the chest.

So even w/o prepping correctly, and with my tank dying in the first 1/3 health bar, I won on hard.

I felt pretty good because it wasn't that easy.  But once I got Morrigan into a "heal when 20%" manually rythym, the battle was over.

The AI is problematic because the Dragon never went after the healer seriously, and any aggro it got on Leliana was easily taken back by morrigan.

Mage tanking clearly way over powered.  You don't need taunt/threaten and you really don' t need CON or a tank at all for most battles

I've beaten Dragon Age Origins around 8 times.

I've beaten Galdur's Gate 2... once.

To me, Dragon Age Origins is more... Playable. To tell you the truth, I hated starting a new game because I had to break out of that stupid dungeon over and over again! Well, that's how I feel. I think Dragon Age is more... Playable. Leaving it at that, not saying it's deeper or a better RPG.

I absolutely agree.  DAO is more "playable" but it's designed that way.  It's shorter, easier, less complicated etc..

BG2 is very epic, much harder and takes a lot longer to play.  I think BG2 is by far the better game, but DAO is something I replay more.

Then again if BG2 was ported to the PS3 PSN I'd play it tonight.

I don't like the tank/dd/heal roles of DAO. Also the hole aggro mechanic is a downgrade.

Cut the HUGE amount of infight healing through spells and bandages.

Just because Blizzard made the best out of the classic mmo-system doesn't mean this system is good for a singleplayer rpg.

If nobody takes the classic balduts's gate rpg system and makes the best out of it, then some day blizzard will do so and other companys will only releas clones of their game. :(
