http://gameinformer....PostPageIndex=5 According to this timeline, the Templars are big influncers in this city, almost kind of ruling it.

Since I dislike religion ruling a country or city, I hope we can break their grip on Kirkwall

If you are a mage you probably have to.

I wonder if you can become a Tevinter style Mage-lord?

They killed the last abusive ruler of Kirkwall after he tried to have them kicked out, They only cared about his tyranny after it affected them, what ****s.

After Awakening I'm getting used to killing templars in Dragon Age. Inquisition was mentioned already, and nothing is more satisfying than killing an inquisitor.

It may even be possible to actually control them...maybe by taking control of the lyrium trade in the Free Marches. It could be quite interesting to have an army of templars aiding a Hawke-mage hehe.

So?
It isn't their job to stop Tyranny.

Hawke's sister is a mage, isn't she? That could be an interesting problem.

Guess I'm the only one here who will play as a mage but doesn't mind templar control. But hopefully I will have the opportunity to lessen their control to an extent

Their excuse was to stop Tyranny, and for an godly order they didn't stop tyranny before.

Posted ImagePosted ImageI've always understood why mages were kept under close watch, but how I feel about the situation in Kirkwall depends on how bad the situation is. I don't hate the templars but I do feel that the system of treating mages like rabid dogs is over-the-top and largely based on fear.

The guy tried to kick out the personal army of the world's most powerful religon and got smacked down by said army. What, you're upset that they act within their own intrests?

It isn't smart politically or even feasable for the Chantry to oust every ruler they don't support.

Well, since I couldn't buy the half-baked republic-monarchy in Ferelden in the first place, I can't really get bent out of shape about the political systems in the game world.

And at the same time, they seized more power, basically controlling Kirkwall now. A religioin that doesn't turn their heads for Tyranny as long as they're not affected, interfere in politics and opress people isn't ok in my book.

Actually, if the Chantry/Templars are in a position to depose any ruler with whose style of governance they disagree, they are already the de facto rulers.

I agree I hope you will be able to at the very least establish a system which requires the templars treat mages like they're human(or elf) for once instead of falsely labeling them malificar and then killing them.

It isn't stated why the former leader tried to remove the Templars from the city. They very well could have been critical of his actions and that is the reason he tried to remove them.

You're upset they had the power to oust him and seize control of the city, but also upset they didn't use their power to oust him until it impacted their order? You can't avoid politics and not turn your head to Tyranny at the same time.

The timeline sugest they were, we'll find out in the city. And yes, that's why I'm upset.

Maybe these particular templars are corrupt. Not all templars are 'bad' anyway...take the blind one in the Alienage for example. He seemed to care about what happened to the elves and the orphans.

It would be nice if you have the option to join them. I never like the idea of a certain character or group being completely evil no matter how you look at them. To be able to see two sides of a story is a great addition to a game.

That's why I didn't like the Darkspawn.  They're just a raging, gnashing horde.

Does it have to be a good or bad choice? Whatever happened to choices with actual consequences?

Whatever happened to good writing and making you go, "OMAGASH" when you reached the end of a game only to find out the choice you made actually ****ed everyone over when you thought it would have the opposite effect?

Eh, I'd say we know too little about the event to really be the judges. However, I do not mind a templar controlled region though.

From what I've seen Dragon Age, the templars maintain order in a region, which is good. Ontop of that, they are a strong force that seem to be able to bring stability to a historical unstable region. Ofcourse the notion about how they treat mages remains, but the events in the circle tower made clear that their strict regulation of mages is needed. Even after the tower was cleared, several mages came forth about how wrong they were by thinking that the templars weren't needed.

I'd personally be disappointed that it turns out that you must remove them from control.
