How about a beam of light that the user controls with their mind? You swing it like a sword, but it's not a sword, it's just LIGHT! You could call it a Lightsword, or something. You could even make a double-bladed version, because if fantasy and sci-fi have taught us anything, it's that two blades are better than one.

I figure a baby mace is a weapon the Dwarven warrior caste give their newborns after they pop out.  Start'em young as I say.
