Posted ImagePosted ImageI'm a big fan of the first dragon age and as the title of the topic implies I have the game as well as it's expansion on the Xbox. I'm very intrigued about the bief synopsis of Dragon Age 2 supplied so far but I was wondering if there was any news about how well the game is going to run on the consoles. As many no dought know the scale of the graphics and performance of the game was weakest on the 360, a very minor flaw but I'm hoping a new engine or something is being used to assist the Xbox in handling the new Dragon age, which I'm sure will be more graphically advanced then the first one. Any info would be great.

Actually, performance was worst on the PS3. 360 had worse graphics, but I felt it performed well most of the time, while the PS3 version has constant framerate problems, even while navigating the menus.

Ditto, textures need to look better on 360, don't know about PS3.

If BW could make it look a little better on the 360, I'd be happy

The PS3 version has framerate issues for a lot of people. I myself never experienced it, but it is a major issue.

I think the console versions will be as good as the PC. I played DA:O on XBOX and then I tried it out on PC. And... Yeah there is a huge difference between the two. But now they are developing the two versions at the same time. So I think this time they wont just give us a bad port. The console versions will be different in some things.

And what about to fix the codex in order to really know which entries have not been read? I prefer that if I have to choose :-D

The recent Game Informer Exclusive on Dragon Age 2 said that Bioware was going to do it in reverse this time. They're designing the game for the consoles first, and then porting it to PC. This means that they will focus on making the game as perfect as possible on the consoles. They, as well as many other companies, have discovered that porting from PC to console is difficult.

The latest Game Informer said no such thing. They said they were changing some things on the console - combat mainly and that's all they said.

The console version will always look worse than the PC version, you guys just don't have the filters available to us, nor the hardware power to run things at higher resolutions than 720p. And I'd be shocked if they use the same textures on the PC that they use on the consoles.

That being said I wouldn't be surprised if they take some time to weak the engine and have it running better on the consoles. They've probably learned a lot during the DA:O dev cycle.

Finally, if the screenshots we've seen so far are any indication, it looks like the engine is going to be easier on the hardware.

My apologies, I meant to say that they were going to be doing PS3, 360, and PC simultaneously instead of designing it for one and then porting it to the others. But here:

Game Informer, Issue 208 page 56. Interview with the Doctors

The console version of Dragon Age 2 seems to be a much bigger focus than it was for the first game. What drove the decision to refine the console experience?
Ray Muzyka: We learned the hard way in DA:O how hard it is to work initially on PC amd then convert the game back to console. In the case of DA2 we're doing all versions simultaneously (PC, 360, PS3) but we're definitely ensuring the features we put in work well on consoles as well as PC, because it's typically much easier to convert them back to PC....

Followed by a bunch of bull**** about how they feel both console and PC fanbases are important.

Both Fallout 3 and Oblivion both ran at 720P on PS3 but Civilzation Revolution and GTA IV could run at 1080p so it can be done unless it is a RPG thing :)

Actually GTA IV runs at 640p on the PS3 and 720p on the xbox 360. Almost all games that feature any type of resource hungry graphics will run at 720p or less on the consoles (Halo 2 runs at 520p on the xbox for example).

As a PC gamer I haven't played a game at even the low resolution of 720p since 1999 520p? Never, even back in the day (mid 1990's) 640p was the cutoff point for games. I think you'd have to go to the old eVGA days for lower rez games like pool of radiance.
