So did Tevinter mages actually invade the golden city? Is the Maker real?

Some of you mentioned Wynne. If you started a conversation with her at Ostagar and asked about the Chant of Light, she mentions that Tevinter and the Golden City may simply be an allegory for the dark side of humanity.

Maybe they didn't invade and it is all simply Chantry propaganda? We might never find that out, but it would be interesting to here the Tevinter Imperium's side of the story.

Although I believe the Chantry is full of bull****, a lot, this one thing actually makes sense. We know the Old Gods exist. We know the Tevinters worshipped them. And Wynne did say that in the Fade the Black City DOES exist.

I think the Old Gods were just using the Tevinters to set them free. They knew that whatever was in the Golden City (be it a powerful spirit, an army, the Maker, or Sandal) would create the first darkspawn as punishment, who would then be attracted to the Old Gods' song, perhaps via some powerful blood magic or some sort.

The archdemons is a 'tainted' old god. I don't think they were originally like that. I think it has something to do with the darkspawn taint. I'm sure they were free before that. We don't know that any maker or anything cursed people or that they invaded this city in the fade. All we know for certain is that somehow the darkspawn exist. How they came about no one knows. And if the only people who entered the fade become darkspawn how would anyone have ever known that it happened and that it is the reason for the darkspawn? Seems far more likely they just made it all up.

I'm pretty certain that the identity of the Maker will quite a major revelation in the DA series. I reckon one of our characters will meet him at some point... Hell, one of our characters might even BE him. You never know with Bioware. Regardless, he won't be god, he will be something different and much more interesting.

Maker = God

I bet it is Sandal

This subject fascinated me big time...my concept of what happened in time of those magisters is captured in the Apocrypha of Intaku below

Was the healing power of andraste's ashes, not evidence enough for you heathens?

Oghren would like to point out the metric crapload of lyrium left in the hall.  Which is strange, given Adraste's blatant anti-Tevinter (and thus, anti-mage) stance.

And heathen is an interesting term.  Didn't the Chantry remove Shartan's contribution to their very own faith because it was convenient?  Somehow, I don't see them making up blatant lies about Andraste, or twisting any facts of history around, as too far out of their league.

Face it, the Chantry as a whole is a bastard.  The people in it may or may not be, though.

Way to completely dodge the question.

For those who didn't read about the Elven gods.
There is a so-called Trickster god called Fen'Heral the dread wolf.
It is said he locked away the other Elven gods both good and evil.

Could he be the Maker? I mean if everyone would believe in him the others would be forgetten.

If so, he is quite a good trickster!

Well I for one don't think the Maker exists. Why?

1: I'm an atheist in real-life LLOLOLOOLO

2: The demon in the Alienage Orphanage says that "There is no Maker".

If I may retort:

1: I am also an aetheist yet this does not preclude my ability to imagine the existence of gods in a fantasy universe.

2: A Demon wishing to spread rage and despair would surely denounce such a being and I do not recall said Demon offering definitive and irrefutable proof.  He could also have said that your male warden was female instead of male and that your human noble origin was the fevered dream of a city elf.....

everything is magic. the thickness of lyrium in the walls of the temple explain the magical properties of the ashes. my guess is the old "gods" were just extremely powerful spirits/demons inhabiting the bodies of dragons.

Surprisingly enough, there is no power of the Holy Maker. That holds for real world also and for Ao of the forgotten realms setting.

EDIT: Unless you think that the urn of Sacred ashes was His glory on earth.

well idk if this has been mentioned before but in one of the codex entries i read that the TI (tenvinter imperum) used 2/3 of the lyrium supply in their entire empire and hundreds of sacrificed slaves to use thier blood power in order to physically enter the fade and when they made thier first step a loud booming voice said "wtih each step you take away the holy step by step you have brought sin upon heaven" soo i woud say they did but failed horribly.

Some think that magic is a curse/gift of the maker.

Really?  If I were a demon of rage and despair I would be sure to tell everyone that said passive-aggressive being existed and was paying attention to them.

What if, the tevinter mages where doing more than just going into the city, what if they were trying to get absolute power? What if they were trying to turn the maker into their servant, a "Dark-spawn". Also, what if, Flemeth was one of the mages and escape from the maker? *DUN DUN* maybe she going to try to over throw the maker once again, and using morrigan to summon the old gods?

Can everyone please stop ridiculous speculations like this? Flemeth's past has already been revealed in her Codex entry in DA:O.
