Been silent though all the Mass Effect meets Dragon ages stuff. I honestly don't care if the character is a set race and gender. I don't think full voice it needed, but I don't mind it.

To  my question, the web rumors via Game Informer info, I have read is that Bioware is streamlining the spells/skills, removing many of them, but promising to keep the fan favorites? Yes, I am worried, this is how ME2 started, and we ended up with a couple skills per character and no inventory at all:(

So Storm of the Century will be the only spell?

Well, it IS only a rumor. I think what fans need is just more information. An FAQ would be nice as well as the trailer they promised us a couple days ago assuming that they'll release information along with trailer's debut as game devs usually do nowadays.

I'm sure this is just a nasty rumor a disgruntled fan made up. Stay calm everyone.

I've yet to hear this. I hope it's just a rumor and suspect that it is.

We have nothing except what GI has given us. We have no spell information yet, and probably will not for a few months.

I wouldn't mind if they got rid of a lot of them and replaced them with a few newer and cooler ones. I mean, there are a TON right now, it wouldn't hurt to streamline things a bit. Let's say they cut half of them out altogether, added in a few new ones, and modified a few others. That would still leave a LOT to choose from. I dont think the sheer number is what's most important, its how cool the ones that we actually have are. So cut out some of the less useful/interesting ones, modify a few to make them better, and add in some newer and more awesome ones. That would work for me.

If the spell combo concept really is "dynamic" then maybe Bioware could get rid of some spells. I hope they don't make mages boring to play though.

If they did it your way, everyone would be the same. Same build, same character!

The great thing about original DA:O was it did have a ton of spells and skills so you could design your character your way rather then looking up the FOTD mage build!

I really hope this just a rumor cause this would be close to a deal breaker for me.
I didnt like this happening in ME2 and wouldnt have bought ME2 if Bioware had been honest and not lied and I wont like it in DA2 if its true here.

Games need to get smarter and have MORE OPTIONS AND CHOICES, not less.

Yet in ME2, each class felt unuiqe, just puting that out there....

Still this is a rumor, there is no proof to help this claim.

I totally agree that more everything is better.

But in DA Awakening, my quickbar was totally full of spells - widescreen too. Most I hardly used.

Sounds like a rumor to me. A whole lot of spells is the selling point in this game.

Based on the GI article I read today, they are revamping the Spells system, just not as drastically as you fear. Here's the part focusing on Spells:

"A large part of creating a unique sensation for each class is ensuring that the ability trees accomodate a wide range of tactical options. Origins had a lot of abilities, but some of the trees (particularly for mages) were of extremely limited usefulness. In Dragon Age 2, the team is focusing on adding depth rather than breadth to the feats your character can perform.

'What we want to do is give the player more depth of choice,' Darrah explains. 'So you might really like the fireball. We're going to let you customize and enhance fireball itself, so by the end of the game you're actually tailoring that spell to the way you want it to be.' While this approach could mean fewer abilities in terms of sheer numbers, it also allows you to make more meaningful choices and craft Hawke according to your preferred tactics." -Game Informer Magazine, issue 208, page 55.

So in essence they will be removing a number of abilities/spells from the individual trees, but they will be making up for that by allowing you the ability to customize each spell.

Personally, I'm excited. I made one mage because I felt I needed to experience each origin story, but I really got bogged down by the sheer number of spells available. At least with Warriors/Rouges each tree has a clearly defined benefit. I was lost in the forest of Mage Spell Trees.

Most of the spell were useless due to poor design and/or bugs in the mechanic. And I was playing the game on the maximum difficulty level. But what I hear is that they are turning the combat to action-based instead of focusing on the tactical elements of the fight.
DA was unique because it was and "oldschol" style RPG and that was why I bought this game. If they are really going to change that and turn DA into a Mass-Effect-one-button-mashing-pulp then something somewhere went very wrong. Don't get me wrong, I like ME2 and when I want a mindless action RPG I play it with a smile. But when I feel like doing some thinking and planing, in addition to a great story and lore, there are hardly any games to chose from :/
PLEASE LEAVE TACTICAL COMBAT SYSTEM ALONE !! :)

I'd love a more interactive spell system i love the combos you could do in DA. Having a collection of smaller faster casting spells that achieve similar effects when combined could be really nice if done correctly. You could have a system similar to runes where spells are combined before combat back in camp for easy use during combat. Depending on the systems breadth and depth it could be really engaging.

They're actually keeping the tactical combat system and improving on it. Did you read the last line of what I posted? "...your preferred TACTICS." They don't plan on getting rid of what worked.

One thing I really like is that the other two classes will now have their own combinations. While I loved obliterating EVERYTHING within one square mile with Storm of the Century, I like the idea of (to use the Game Informer article again) a warrior sundering a heavily armored opponent's armor, and then having your rogue come up from behind and SUPERUBERCRIT backstab.

What do you mean? you need more spells then this awesome spell combo? ... as long as it is a 1 button spell in DA2 not this nonsense of having to use 3 spells in a specfic order stuff .. .noo ... 1 button. :P

Maybe they'll do an Elder Scrolls and have you create own spells. Dots, Hots, etc.

The skillbar did get cluttered at the end of Awakening. I think this is a good thing.... :)
