the most emotional moment I have ever experianced with a video game. my canon, paragon shep, who had romanced Tali, sends her on the tech expert mission, only to have her die because i had Zaeed lead the 2nd team. I had to put the controller down and walk away for about 20 min.

that's so sad :( (and i mean sad-sad, not pathetic-sad; i'm not making fun of you)

I actually played ME2 first haha so I really, really enjoyed it and was not disappointed in the least since I had nothing to compare it to. Now that I'm playing the first I can see all the differences but I don't like ME2 any less. I thought the characters were incredible and liked so many of them (pretty much everyone... except for maybe Jacob). Really loved Tali and Garrus even though there was no nostalgia (since I hadn't played the first).

Combat was fun and I thought many squad members had great AI that did not require me to hold their hands through battles. Didn't mind that I had to recharge after every power. The hub didn't bother me too too much either.

The story and dialogue was captivating and realistic. I actually played pretty neutral which meant not gaining everyone's loyalty for the suicide mission because I didn't have enough Paragon/Renegade points to persuade them. Which in turn resulted in a couple casualties (sorry Miranda... and Jacob I sent through the vents since he volunteered and I didn't care if he died anyway).

One specific thing I truly enjoyed was the observation deck where Samara lived. That huge window looking out on virtual stars just mystified me.

Not to mention the different decisions you had to make (keep Collector base? let the prisoner be beaten? etc. etc.)
Mass Effect 2 was a truly remarkable game that made me... buy the first one and will make me buy the third.

What would be even more emotional: if you kept that consequence and did not reload the save, having her die permanently in your canon Shep. I wonder if deaths in ME3 will go beyond "just not being there."

Then again, if you don't, I understand :)

Back on topic: for me, ME1 and ME2 are those rare games whose flaws I can overlook because I love them so much. In a sense, if you love someone, you know what I mean.

I loved ME2, I have every DLC for it, and it's my favorite game of all time. I've done way more than a healthy amount of playthroughs. But according to most of these forums I was wrong to think that way. Good to see some threads devoted to complimenting bioware on an amazing game.

BioWare has pretty much bent over backwards to make the fans appeased.

--Didn't like the Mako? Gone.
--Didn't like the micromanagement? Bye-bye to that.
--Didn't like the RPG elements? They've been greatly reduced.
--Bored with driving around planets in search of rocks? No more.
--Wanted Garrus and Tali as romanceable characters? Done (and brilliantly executed).
--More squaddies? Here, have twice as many new characters.

I mean, seriously, I never got why people complain so much. What more can they do?? I'm sorry, but this is a sore spot for me. Am I a BW fangrrl? Yup. But you have to admit they achieved the above, and they have THE best track record *ever* for listening to fan feedback.

The ME universe is digital crack and every bit as legit a world as that in Star Wars or anything else you care to mention. Is ME2 perfect? Heck, no. Is it a great, replayable game? Hell, yes!

And the Suicide Mission was fantastic.

I really don't know what else to say. All of you have brought up very valid points. And BioWare, we can't thank you enough. We also very much expect more in ME3.

ME 2 is my favorite game of all time. I just loved everything, the gameplay, music, the characters, it was all so good! It's nice to see others feel the same, sometimes all the negativity on the boards can be a bit overwhelming lol...
Anyways currently on my 5th playthrough which is on Instanity dificulty so I can get that last achievement! Image IPB

Mass Effect 2 for me is the best single player game I have played. I have never beat a game as many time as I have for both ME games. I am really addicted to the ME universe. Bioware has done a amazing job creating such a vast universe.

I just wish their mmo was based off of the ME universe and not Star Wars.

Honestly i loved every second of the game, and beating it on insanity felt oh so great. As far as i am concerned bioware makes the best games on the market, and they can do no wrong.

Originally i missed the old inventory but i grew to like the upgrade system far more, it made me remember how much i hated having 15 versions of the same gun, considering credits were pretty well useless, especially after you got the spectre guns.

The only thing that disappointed me was how little your choices in the first game carried over, hopefully come ME3 decisions being carried over will be more important. I especially hated that my Shep that romanced Ashley got almost no resolution, other then being torn a new one (then an email apologizing). I managed to not cheat on her on my insanity run, so hopefully that character will get some resolution in ME3.

THANK YOU theelementslayer!!!! A forum where it's not all, "BIOWARE SUCKS, ME2 SUCKS, LET'S DISCUSS ALL ITS PLOTHOLES AND HOW IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE" yada yada yada....

My understanding is that BioWare revamped ME2 based on fan criticism, and they took that to heart.  I was so happy when I didn't need to always make weapons into omni-tool.  Or switch my armor for better upgrades.  Or have to wait until my weapon cooled down.  Or take down enemies on my own because my squadmates sucked.  Or drive the Mako!  (I hated that thing.....)

Constructive criticism is all fine and good, and forums on what fans want to see in ME3 give BioWare input on what to put in future games.  But when there are TONS of forums dedicated to discussing the plotholes of ME2, or how there are barely any RPG elements in ME2, or about Shepard dying and how that makes no sense whatsoever...it gets a bit much.  Just don't play the game again.  Where is the love? Accept the story for what it is.  BioWare listens to feedback.

The improvements in ME2 are unbelievable, and I believe it is better than ME1.

I hope the BioWare Mass Effect team reads this. I saw all the ME2 improvements as soon as I had to start recruiting the team for the suicide mission, and getting into the meat of the game. The interupts, the awesome team I had to recruit, the loyalty missions, the cinematics, and (most of) the dialogue was fantastic!

I will definitely buy ME3.

I can't get enough of ME2. I actually bought ME2 first, and I liked it so much I bought ME1 the instant I beat it. It brings back old memories of KOTOR, which has been for a long time my favorite game. I've been doing a sentinel runthrough on insanity, and you can do things in combat that you couldnt dream of doing in ME1. The Normandy is nicer, there are more squadmates (and races) to interact with, I don't need to go on an omni-gel spree to get under 150 items, and the cover system doesn't screw me over. Hell, I got Xbox Live just for ME2 dlc, and I don't regret a thing.

The people who complain about ME2's problems are the same as the people who complained about ME1's problems. They will never be satisfied, and I feel pity for them, because they can never enjoy a great series of videogames.

I look forward to more DLC and the conclusion of Shepard's story in ME3.

I delayed doing Samara's loyalty mission for so long, but it was actually the most interesting! I liked being able to play detective, get somebody's interest, go into a bar, and figure out how the hell I was supposed to get a sex-murderer's attention.

I also LOVED the loyalty mission with Garrus. I got a sense of how much he had changed from ME1-- a lot less likely to show mercy, and a lot more damaged at realizing the injustices of the world. I think he was sheltered at C-Sec, and although he said he didn't like being chafed under rules in ME1; despite what he said about killing Saren and Dr. Saleon, I don't think he would be able to kill civilians to find somebody; he needed a renegade Shepard to help him with that. In ME2, the ends definitely justified the means; killing criminals and innocents was okay to get to Sidonis.

I held my breath during the suicide mission, when Shepard was jumping for the Normandy as the Collector Swarms came after her.  I first thought all but Grunt had died, and I was afraid I was going to die.  But I made it!

Ive been reading these forums for some time and really all I see is complaining and asking why isnt ME2 doing this and why can't it fit my specific needs on this. ME2 is an amazing game and yet people still have filled up pages and pages of arguments of why it sucks, and why Bioware sucks, ect, ect.

Sadly, welcome to the internet.  Besides... complaining is more fun because if everyone agrees the conversation ends.  Arguing is fun, and kind of a rush at times.

I laugh about those that troll these forums complaining about their pet peeve (like say "plot")... and they will fight tooth and nail day after day after day after day.

The thing is, even the complainers would not be here if they did not enjoy this game more than most.  "I'm on my 5fh playthrough and I just want to say that this game sucks!!!  What a waste of my 250 hours of game time to date.  I hate you Bioware an I will never buy another game from you again unless you let me cornhole Tali in a minigame. I swaer my 6th playthrough will be my last "

ANd now what they say is

-We want mako back HAMMERHEAD SUCKS
-Bring back the old inventory!!!!!!!
-Too much shooter not enough RPG!
-Probing planets is gay bring back exploration!
-We didnt get to see tali's face thats GAY!
-Too many squad mates! There pointless!

Seriously bioware does everything they tell them too and they compalin about it. It would be funny if they didn't take it so seriously...

in all fairness

- we wanted a vehicle that handled better and they gave us a hovercraft that while runnign smoothly CANNOT shoot straight  and has NO SHIELDS

- We wanted a better inventory and they gave us none at all

- where does the "too many RP elements" come from? short of the CoD/Halo/GoW hardcore meatheads how many of the bioware fans ever complained about that????

- Looking for Rocks was pointless because after the first playthrough money was not an issue (THANK GOD) we wanred it GONE not replaced by something even more annoying

-Not showing Tali's face was a simple way for the devs to say "you want to see her face.....buy ME3 sucker"

- because of the lack of THOROUGH rpg customization all those extra squadmates are pointless. They are not pointless per se

Thank god we've got a positive thread going. I get so sick of smudboy and Zulu running around telling us how much the game sucks and all the "massive plotholes" when they continue to play the game, acting as though Bioware should be thanking them for their troll-like efforts to "fix" the game.

I have never had a gaming experience as deep and involving as ME2. I have played the came through close to a dozen times, and I am still addicted. I don't even play in alternate ways: I just play my same kind of Shepard through, with more-or-less the same route of progression, over and over again. I am STILL that addicted to it.

I mean, I loved ME1, especially the story, which could make up for any amount of exploring and grinding, in my opinion, and ME2 was everything that ME1 was, and more. Equal-or-better story, more cinematic, darker feel, more 'grey area' and significant choices, tremendously engaging combat, tons of fantastically-written characters, the works. It is, in my honest opinion, the best game I have ever played.

As such, I like to show my support for the game and Bioware by doing more that just talking about how much I love them on a forum. I buy EVERY piece of DLC that comes out for ME2. Every single one. I don't do it necessarily for the new guns, armour, or even costumes; I do it because I love the game that much, and I want to support it as much as I can, through the most direct means possible.

To sum it up: When ME3 comes out, it's going to be akin to a religious experience for me.

To understand my praise for ME2 you have to know, that I only ever played RPG's with the sole exception of one RTS with heavy RPG elements to it. So there never has been - and as far as I can tell never will be - any shooter playing for me.

Then there is Mass Effect, which I was not interested in initially because of its obvious shooter elements, but then I thought: "It's Bioware, give it a try". I entered the series when ME2 was already released, but I still started with ME1. After beating ME1 I immediatly started with ME2 just to stop playing after 15 minutes - what the heck, I need to use cover? I need to run over ammo clips? That's a f**** shooter!

I came back the next day and decided to give it one more try, turned difficulty to casual and enjoyed the story.

And wow, it paid off ...

Fighting is much more intense, than in the first part. I do enjoy my Vanguard so much, I replayed the same career about 6 times, with switching to hardcore and insanity finally. The whole combat system has a lot more replayability than the first part.

The squadmates are generally more fleshed out then in the first part, given that the loyalty mission will provide a lot of insight into each of the characters. I still do not skip the dialouge on Jack's and Mordin's loyalty mission because the writing of dialouge still strikes me.

The suicide mission is awesome! I have been playing Dragon Age before ME, where you could make the US, so I was not 100% sure my Shep would make it out alive ... having Mordin as my tech specialist dying the first time just added a lot to my experience.

To be honest, I was very disappointed with the inventory gone at first, but now I think they way the went was much better suited for a game like ME. I just wish I could customize my squaddies armor as well, and we would have gotten weapon pieces to customize our guns.

So, that's the main reasons I love ME2 :)

The main problem i have with the vanguard is i tend to use charge way to much.Charge and eviscerator shotgun and everything else goes out the window .I do use pull a bit but on my last playthrough i think i used shockwave like 3-4 times.

I agree completely with the OP. I also thought the gameplay was the best shooter gameplay i've ever seen and much better than any RPG i've ever played. The powers were actually some use unlike ME1 and there wasn't an inventory that was confusing as sh**nuggets.

It was better than most RPGs i'd played because it went for quality over quantity. Rather than having hundreds of redundant weapons, armour and powers that were all reskinned versions of the other(like ME1 or Borderlands), it just had a small amount of unique weapons brilliant for all sorts of different situations.

Before I came on these forums I was completely amazed with ME2. I was on the edge of my seat every single part of the suicide mission, I loved the ability to interrupt people mid sentence (so much so that I took almost every interrupt except two that I missed) and I was so happy when I made it through the suicide mission with everyone alive.
