...in the same way that we have Hawke. You know, one race, voiced, and all that jazz. Dwarves can't be mages, and making a Dwarven main character who can't be a mage would just ****** a lot of people off.
That's what I think anyway. Depressing.
Wait a tick, we'll never get a Dwarven main character...

Yeap, pretty much, though Dagna seems to think the lack of dwarven mages has something to do with their close approximation to raw lyrium (desensitization, perhaps). So with more and more surface dwarves popping up--heck, it's almost to the point where surface dwarves outnumber the underground variety--it's possible that there will be dwarven mages in the future.
Though they'd lose that 10% immunity to spells.

Not really depressing at all. I prefer playing as a human.

And other people don't. But obviously they don't deserve a "cinematic" experience. There's only so much "cinema" to go around.

I doubt there would be a dragon age game centered around a non-human character.

I'm pretty sure not buying DA2 wont stop your heart or melt the polar ice caps.
You'll be fine.

DA2 looks really good (from the little we've seen) and I'm probably getting it.
But I'm just saying that it'll suck if we only ever get to play as humans and elves for the rest of the franchise.

A Dwarf will never get the Hawke treatment because it's a niche, not because it can't magificate things to death.

Correct. Only human males deserve a 'unique' and 'cinematic' experience. Everything in addition to this is just baggage that the developers waste their zots on in moments of drunken weakness.

Well, if DA3 has a voiced protagonist you can bet that it'll be a strapping, white Human male.

And his last name will be Wayne.

I know I would. That'd be as epic as Mike Hawke.

You never know in a future game they could make a dwarven character, they could even find a way to change the lore so that some dwarves can play mages....I doubt that we will never be able to play elves or dwarves again.....plus if Bioware does ever make a DA3 I don't see them doing a human only again, as I would think that they would want to do something different. But that is ultimately up to the folks at Bioware.......

I'm more worried that we might have to play as an elf in a future Dragon Age title... Ugh. Don't ever make it so Bioware!

This is a serious mistake if our only choice is to play a dull white male. Since, oooh forever, RPG's have boasted that broad range of possibilities in character development that I think is half the reason we like 'em, so to be stuck with just one (called Hawke, ahem!!! You may as well call him Thud Grindhard!!) is a retrograde step.

Everyone saying there's no chance you'll get to play an elf again, I gotta disagree. For some reason people LOVE elves. I don't know why people like elves... their frail, girly, and can't hold a torch to Dwarfs... but still Elves are popular.
Dwarfs are less popular. They certainly have a solid fan base (THE BEST!) But many people don't like 'um because their not attractive. Sad and shallow, but hey, to each their own.
Long story short I wouldn't say there's no chance we'll never get to play an Elf, but yes, they is most likely no chance we'll ever get to play a dwarf.

I like how everyone in this thread has gone "Oh no! You can only play as a human male!" Hawke can be female as well.

I wonder if you make your Hawke have black skin colour is your sister also black?

Perhaps the dwarf fans and the mage fans can fight it out to determine whether a dwarf-only game gets made?

I like every race in DA:O, I am sure they will make a dwarven main character some day.
I mean you could follow him on his way to becoming a Paragon.
