Experience points and maximum level

I am wandering how this is possible, as I in now 4 playthroughs can only reach a maximum of level 23 and that is just barely.
I have solved every quest (that I know of), unlocked every locked door/chest I can find, and killed all monsters I have seen (except some very few I persaude or talk down).
I know level 25 is not a must and not even needed, so it's just to calm my curiosity that I would like to know if others, who now reach level 25 know of any hidden areas, monsters or other stuff, which they at first had overlooked.
I finish the origins at either level 3 or 4 depending on character race and class.

I'm normally around level 15/16 when i beat the High Dragon. From there to lvl 25 you need over 100.000 XP. That's 10.000 units of Elf-root worth 50 sovereigns. A single donation can net you 880 XP for 88 roots. So that's 114 trips to Varathorn to get 88 elfroots and than to the camp to donate them. I've never done that, and i think i would go crazy while trying.

You can stockpile elfroots and then turn them in 89 at a time.Forst1999 wrote...
The only way i can think of is exploiting that you get XP for donating in the allied suply chests. With the High Dragon still alive one can not donate gold, but ridicilous amounts of elf-root, which would be much more effective anyway.

You might as well just use the console to give yourself the XP at that point, though. You can even throw away the 50 sovereigns if that's any more fair to you.

I do not believe it is possible to legitimately reach 25 before the High Dragon, in that game I saved that arc for last and my PC basically did around 90% of all the killing. My party members were responsible for most of the rest, and I did my best to make sure none of the non-party NPC's killed anyone "valuable". The death list includes quite a few neutral/"allied" NPC's. They do give XP.

I didn't think it mattered whether the pc or a companion got the kill, as long as it's a "permanent" companion, i.e., one who can join you in camp.TBastian wrote...
I've reached 25 around the time of the last battle by making sure my PC did most of the kills (more XP->more levels for me->more levels for everyone).

Another thing you can do for more XP, is go to Denerim as soon as you leave Lothering (or soon after) and buy the Archivist's Sash. It gives more XP for the Codex pages.

Is donating bugged on Xbox? I swear, looking at my xp bar before and after donations of runes, gold, and elfroot, it didn't budge for any. Maybe I just did something wrong, but I would think getting 880 XP would move it enough to notice.

I donated around 3k gold on my lvl 24 dwarf and my exp bar moves about 30%

Must be a console bug; the xps from donation chests works fine on PC.
BTW, I've used mod add-ons to add 6 new areas to my Origins map. I gain enough xps from those areas such that I don't need to use the donation chests anymore; I only use them now to bolster the endgame troops with whatever junk runes, craftables and whatnot I can spare. Playing on the PC - gotta love it!!

you must dispose every trap and not trigger them.
Wear the exp belt from beginning.

I never donated that much money, only about 4-5 gold total, so maybe that's why I couldn't see it move, but I could swear it didn't move when I donated a full stack of elfroot. Good to know it's not bugged though, I'll have to try it again next time I play (currently playing RDR waiting for the patch that fixes the patchLast Darkness wrote...

Second character, Elven Mage, also reached level 23.9
I did NOT use any experience exploits (I never knew about the allied chests exploit when I played through), nor did I even have 'Stone Prisoner' DLC (I didn't like the idea of the golem, nor did I like what I read on various posts about it: an uppity statue? No thanks.).
Both of my characters were heavy killers. The Human Noble (Warrior) was always at the front of a fight. By game's end, his kills were something like 1180.
The Elven Mage made extensive use of AOE spells, mana clash, etc. Final kill tally was about 1470.
I'm alright with being level 23.9
It gives me room to grow, if/when I ever get around to playing Awakening.

Example dogs in the tower if you kill grants you extra xp.You can only do it with Aoe and they have a large amount of regen out of combat so doing it within combat would be best.
Another example is Loghains push quest.
Kill all friedly soldiers and get extra.

I think a Rogue Warden is the only way to max level without any exploits, gotta disarm and all that jazz plus using Lucky ring and archivist sash to boost exp.

The Allied chests is not a exploit, its there by design as a repeatable quest.

Agreed with the chests, but my Mages are the first ones getting to 25th with party skills allowing other quests to be obtained & completed; no sash required.

I tried the elfroot turn in quest this morning. I turned in enough to gain a complete level for my PC, but all my companions still had the same amount of XP as they had before I turned anything in. Do they not share the XP gotten from that as they do the rest of the XP?
AFAIK, they appear to Lvl Up when you do, so check each of them after you are finished.
