I think that all countres have pretty much the same means of dealing with mages .

Except the TI, and the Qunari, and the Dalish with their new home thingy, and the Dwarves depending on how you played DA.

Not necessarily. It seems to be possible for mages to live outside of the Tower. You encounter circle mages in DA:O and DA:A who are not living with the circle. It looks like that a mage can request to live outside of the tower as long as he/she agrees to still be monitored by the templars. But considering the attitude towards mages in Ferelden, many choose to remain in the tower, because living outside of a circle means you have an angry mob at your doorstep every time a cow drops dead in the neighborhood.
Yes, but those are usually more higher ranking mages and the chantry know where they are. I think it's more likely you will be an apostate.

the logical next step would be that hawke can only be a fighter ;P so they can circumvent these lore contradictions and further decrease money spend for development
If they take away choice of class too, that would be very annoying.

Lothering has quite a big chantry for such a small vilage and there are several templars living there. It would be a quite sensible place to allow a mage to live and be under chantry control while an apostate would be foolish to live next door to a bunch of templars. Also we do not know how old Hawke is at the start of the game if he is in his mid-twenties I dont see much of an problem to grant him the chance to spend some time away from the tower.ZaroktheImmortal wrote...

I doubt they make that mistake. It's like the worst case scenario.

It is already confirmed that Hawke can be all three classes.PanosSmirnakos wrote...
OP, that's a very good question which requires some explanation from the devs. I fear that Hawke is going to be a warrior character only. I don't play mages, so it's not big deal for me, but playing a hero who is a human and a warrior only, will make DA 2 more of an action rpg for me, something like the Witcher. Let's hope we'll get more info about it, soon.

Do you have a link for this? I've read some info about it and I think that the only things which are officially confirmed to be customizable for Hawke are the gender and appearance.

There is a stickied thread titled "what we know so far" right in this forum, collecting every tiny bit of information. It contains a quote from one of the writers, that confirms that Hawke can be a mage.PanosSmirnakos wrote...

Oh yeah, I found it. It's confirmed by Mary Kirby, that's cool. Thanks.

Blood mages and Demon worshippers ... all of them ...
Would be interesting as the human commoner orgine wasn't present in DA:O so was the "apostate" origine. That way we could experience Thedas not just from the eyes of a commoner but also from the eyes of an apostate as compared to the circle mage outlook on Thedas from the first game.
Also it might not be necssary an aoostate, seeing that the Templars got a sizable prescence in Kirkwall and Kirkwall still seems to be such an important city within the Free Marches, it wouldn't surprise me if there would also be a Circle there which could "seeing the potential" of Hawke take him/her under their wings. Or maybe even the Templars take him/her in ...

Hawke may start as just having undergone the Harrowing and is allowed outside the tower for some duty when he had to flee.
Are you considered an apostate after doing the Harrowing? Obviously the templars or whoever won't care when they see you, but technically aren't you just considered a Circle Mage?
Apostate does sound fun though, maybe have more run-ins with the Collective as well?

I should go double check on the facts, but do we start as a child in DA2? Was he/she a child in Lothering in the beginning?

We haven't heard that but it would be kinda weird starting the game as 10 year old and in the next 10 years getting companions and all that, you'll most likely start at 18.

We don't know if you're a child in Lothering. Logic dictates no. Reason being the entire game is spanning one decade and if you're a child in Lothering a number of years have to pass in order to make the character into a capable fighter/mage/rogue. By the time this happens there would only be a couple years (at best) left for the story to unfold in.
If you undergo the Harrowing and illegally leave the tower you are still an Apostate. That is why every mage has a phial of their blood taken from them and stored away. The templar can track them with it.
