It ain't natural! <_<

It's been around +30 C (That's 86 F for you wierd American people), in Helsinki for a while now, and the abominable heat is forecast to continue at least the next few weeks or so.

Dammit, I'm a Finn - I live on the same latitude as southern Alaska. It's not supposed to be this hot here. -30 C we can handle, but not a gazillion degrees ABOVE zero.

To make it worse, I have a south-facing appartment, with a large window that guarantees that I'm in the crosshairs of the sun from morning till night. And being so north, the sun comes up around 4:30 a.m, and goes down almost 10.30 p.m.

I could close the roll down curtain that I have, but that doesn't improve things much, as it's DEEP RED in color, absorbing heat with great efficiency. It's about a billion degrees (in any system) in my appartment.

And of course I don't own a fan. Apparently most people in Helsinki don't either, because all the fans EVERYWHERE have been sold out. After the word got out that a store downtown was to receive a shipment of fans, yesterday morning the new shipment sold out in two minutes, in a mad rush to the store. :pinched: We're not supposed to NEED fans in Finland! :crying:

Woke up 2:30 a.m. last night, sweating like a pig, and had to take a cold shower to have a chance of catching some more sleep.

Just had to rant. Isn't much else I can do about it. :(

It was a bit like that over here (England) a week or two ago. It wasn't fun at all! Our rain clouds seemed to be heading in your direction last night, so maybe you'll end up with rain sometime soon ;)

Both the dry Ice (thank you! ^_^) and the rain would be very welcome indeed!

Bah, I'm Australian, 30 C isn't that unusual. It gets up around 40 C in the summer, 45 C if it's bad. It's winter now though so...yeah

Yes, but I bet you own a fan or two. <_<

And don't live in an appartment optimized for retaining heat in sub-zero temperatures.

Getting 30 C here is a bit like getting -30 C in more southern lattitudes would be. With central heating everywhere and a culture prepared to take on tough winters, Finns wouldn't blink an eye, but I bet Australians might find that a bit troublesome.

Still, this isn't the hottest climate I've experienced - spent some 6 weeks in Toronto with family friends there when I was 12 years old, and an really exceptional heatwave was taking place there then. At worst, it got up to 45 C

But I was surrounded by fans then.... :?

It's 42 C currently here. Nice... especially with the nice 70% of humidity in the air... Sea is reaching the 30 degrees for the first time around here.

Ouch. We've got around the same level of humidity here too. :pinched:

It's 29 C here now. The weather bureau is calling a high of 35 C. It's actually slightly cooler than normal this summer.

The highest heatwave alarm went off a few days ago, it's 36-41 C.

People from the directorate for disaster management is out there everywhere distributing water bottles.

But the worst part is that my VGA card is overheating and reducing power in order to stay alive, thus performing poorly, can't play properly.

A few weeks back it was 40 C here, and for the last 2 weeks or so +-35, I really welcomed the rain of the past few days. (lucily it stayed with rain, some thunder and a lot of wind here, elsewhere in The Netherlands, it really was storm, someone actually died because of it)

But to make it worse, I have a job (luckily only in the morning) in a greenhouse, so that means inside its 5 a 10 degrees hotter than outside, with high humidity and not really much fresh air to go around..

But I do have a fan at home :)

I've always said it's damn useless, always shining when there is light already.

Open all of the windows as soon as the temperature outside drops below 70 and keep them all open all night until you wake up. Then close everything off in the morning. If your blinds absorb heat then try hanging a big blanket up with them to either block more sun or absorb less heat. A cold shower in the middle of the afternoon can help cool you off, too.

Greetings from Pori. Yeah, the heat is killing me. 30C outside and in my room... But worst is 34C in my working place where I have to do physical labor and air circulation sucks! I just got back to work this week from summer holidays and 6 week long sick holiday (thanks to broken foot), straight back to physical workout in extreme heat and poor fitness due to long inactivity. God I have been so dead after each day... :pinched:
