An often overlooked, yet extreemly useful guide can be found on the Vault:

Toolset Notes

Probably because of it's title, people think that it's just a simple guide.  In truth, this is a deep volume of toolset information that comes very close to a manual for the toolset and beyond.

IMO, this is required reading for builders.

Maybe some will find my own manual useful as well:

Basic GUI & XML Coding For NWN2

Although not strictly toolset, it does have a relationship to it.

Lance.

So as is widely known, Obsidian's NX2 Crafting Tutorial is a well-intentioned bug-ridden document about a bug-ridden script that depends on buggy 2da files and buggy items. I long ago committed in the forums to writing a crafting tutorial for those wanting to integrate the SoZ crafting system into their own campaigns. What I have done is enhanced the SoZ scripts and items and released that as the SoZ Crafting Plus system (think of it as SoZ Crafting 2.0), which corrects many of the bugs and limitations without altering the standard 2da files and provides for the creation of custom recipe packs. I've included a tutorial with it that describes my system and contrasts it with the unmodified SoZ crafting system.

Note that the SoZ Crafting Plus system does not include the trade system introduced in SoZ. It includes only crafting. It provides two ways of allowing recipes to be used that would normally rely on trading resources, so implementation of the trading system isn't required.

SoZ Crafting Plus System (a pdf tutorial can be downloaded separately)

For anyone who wants to add SoZ style crafting into their campaign I strongly suggest you start with this system. If you start with the Obsidian tutorial you will just be misled into confusion.

Regards

PS. I know this is not a plug-your-own-stuff thread. I am posting this here because the SoZ Crafting Plus system is basically a fixed version of the broken SoZ crafting system and its misleading (though well-intentioned) tutorial documentation. If it was an entirely new crafting system of my own devising I would not have posted it here.  My apologies if anyone takes offense.

I'm in desperate need of a very detailed overland encounter creation tutorial. I've been asking here for help for at least a week.

I've been working on a set of Video Tutorials to walk people through using the Toolset and use of community resources. You can check them out in my Youtube channel here.

Tutorials up so far include:

Lesson 1: Getting Started - Part 1- Covers an introduction to the community, game, and how to install toolset plugins.

Lesson 2: Toolset Basics - Part 1, Part 2, Part 3- Covers a how to use the Toolset interface, where to find various options, and basics of creating an area and painting down/managing objects.)

Lesson 3: Custom Content - Part 1, Part 2 (will be up later today!)- Covers where to find Custom Content for your game and how to implement it. Includes information and walkthroughs on how to edit Hak Packs (Hakpak), 2DAs, and TLK files.

Does anyone have Loudent's OM Supplement archived, or know some other place it was posted? That's the only one in the list that points to a post on the inaccessible legacy forums, and the Wayback Machine doesn't seem to have that post archived.

i've had some `soup ****' reactions with my nwn2 toolset. It worked just fine the first few times i used it, but after i downloaded a bunch of patches and reinstalled NWN2, it didn't work. It only flashed on my screen for a fraction of a second and then disappeared

Try opening a new thread in the toolset forum or in the technical support forum and provide description of your system and the problem.  This thread is to advertise links to tutorials for using the toolset, not to get technical support running it.

I'll second that; the OM is driving me bananas.  And it seems that most of the threads for advice link to currently dead sites; has any information been salvaged in this regard?
