Question for the Writers: Who is writing Hawke?

In Mass Effect 2, one particular decision regarding Shepard (as I recall) was that the different writers would write Shepard for different plot worlds (though I believe the other characters were segregated). I felt that this ended up creating an issue, particularly that Shepard was someone inconsistent in what charm and intimidate meant. Specifically, in some worlds charm/intimidate was the difference between subtle threat and you-have-five-seconds-or-I-curb-stomp-you and in others it was a very binary diplomatic/threat divide.

Will only one writer write Hawke? Will it be seperated by the time periods?

Also: will Hawke speak mostly in open-ended questions? This is how Shepard spoke 90% of the time, and having worked in sales, I absolutely cannot help but notice it. It's a great way to deliver a neutral inquisitive tone without characterizing Shepard one way or another, but by being neutral it makes for a bland character. Will this be something Hawke will do?

Who writes the NPC that interacts with Hawke writes Hawke's dialogue with said NPC as well.

I guess asking what characters influenced the writing of Hawke would be a bit lot to ask, no?

Are we sure "writing" is still appropriate? I thought the storyline, dialog, and script were done already...

This would make the most sense.

Hmmm... Mr. Gaider -- not that I'm internet stalking him or anything -- had a status a few days ago that he's hard at work on DA2 (and finally gets to say it, etc, etc). So I'm guessing "writing" is still appropriate.

And if it's not, then we'll just change the question. The answer should be the same.

Everyone is stalking David (and the others too)'s profile, carefully examining whatever he posts. :P

Stalking producers to learn their secret before release is a time honored tradition.

Im tempted to assume Gaider, but that begs the question, just how much writing does he do and how much leading?

I believe whoever writes the current conversation writes Hawke's lines as well. It's almost certainly a joint effort, and it's not like he has a personality set in stone. I don't see how being voiced would make the writing part any different from DA:O, and the PC wasn't written by anyone in particular.

I think Mary mentioned (joking) she would end up all conversations she writes with "later dude", so it can't be Mr. Gaider writing everything Hawke says.

Don't forget the key difference between writing the dialogue and writing the paraphrase. It would be acceptable for different people to write different bits of Hawke's dialogue, but it would be very disturbing if every writer could write the paraphrase in his own style without at the very least systematic double-checking by a specific person.

Given that David has talked of how he can use the paraphrase system, it would certainly be nice to know he's personally responsible for that in some way since everyone here seems to trust him with that kind of thing (not saying someone else wouldn't also do a very good job, just that it might not reassure everyone as much without further proof).

I just hope there won't be horrible dialog choices like "Don't tease the panther."

As a few people have said, all the writers write Hawke's lines in the NPC conversations we're working on. This just requires us to talk to each other and make sure we all understand how the various personalities of Hawke are supposed to sound. Which is not that hard, considering we're all sitting in the same office and can just turn around and ask, "Hey, does this sound right?" We've also got editors who look over everything and make sure we're maintaining some level consistency.

David's already dropped some hints, so we'll probably talk about Hawke's personality choices later.

Personalities?  As in plural?  So I assume you mean that in order to give players a choice in how they charactarize Hawke, you essentially have to write a number of diffrent characters and then splice them together into one person.  For example, for heroic archetypes you could choose between King Arthur or Robin Hood , while for the anti-heroic side you would choose between Julius Caesar or Ghengis Khan.  Note that I am not assuming that Hawke is based on these guys, thier just examples.  Though if theres a sword in a stone in this game, I may have to buy it twice.:D

Edit: Spelling

Was that how DA:O was written? Out of curiosity.

When writing Hawke's lines, is the focus on the charcter of Hawke, or the NPC? Who is the foreground and background in the interaction?
