What if the "golden city" was a trap set by a powerfull evil spirit to lure in the tevinter mages, and to then possess them and create the darkspawn out of their powers (There never were a golden city, the rumors were created by the chantry that is under the spirits influence) The same spirit could also easily pretend to be "good" and manipulate others SAYING it is the maker.

I mean if a golden angel of light came hoovering over someone and said, "i am your creator, do my bidding and you shall know eternal paradise" Who wouldnt honestly be fooled?

This way if the "maker" wanted its enemies undone, it would just reveal himself to some powerfull person high up in the chantry and TADAAA! An army at its command.

I believe the golden city always WAS the black city. It was never anything other than malignant, luring the tevinter mages in with promises of happiness , power, eternal life and whatnot.

My theory is that "The maker" is really an extremely powerfull spirit that uses the blight and the chantry as tools to gain power in the real world. Weakening it,  to one day be harvested.

So where do Flemeth come in?

Flemeth could  easily be the "maker" this evil spirit, fueling herself with more and more power and immortality with each blight. As to one day become powerfull enough to rule the world. What if the main purpose of the possessed tevinter mages was to create the blight to find all the old gods, and in the meantime weakening the world?

Do you remember how open Flemeth was about being a maleficar and such, what if she WANTS people to believe that... to lead them away from the truth that is even worse...

There... *Phew*...  ready to let loregeeks shoot my idea down now! ;)

It would have to be an extremely powerfull spirit to begin with, to have the power to corrupt the tevinter mages and pretend to be the maker? Flemeth seems to me to be the only one with seemingly high enough "power"

Flemeth is Andraste is one of the original Tevinter Mages is Awesome. I'm gonna go with that until inevitably proven wrong.

I don't think Flemeth could be the maker. I doubt "he" even exists. Every time they give a reason of his proof they show something that pulls it away.

They are very powerful. They just didn't want to let you know. You think you have destroyed them, they will be back and catch you with your pants down!

I'm certain the Maker exists. I don't think he exists in the sense the Chantry think he does, however. I'm of a more... Neoplatonic + almost-but-not-quite pantheistic interpretation.

I could believe flemeth is andraste. She kind of fits my idea of what andraste would be like if she had escaped/survived the burning. As for the maker's existence, I'd prefer that to remain a mystery. .

To clear some confusement.

The maker never existed at all - the "maker" is an extremely powerfull spirit in the fade with "Godlike" powers. Saying it is the creator of things and such.

What classifies for being a god? Only power.

Im just wondering if lorewise - it is possible it could be Flemeth, if my theory holds water.

Doesn't make much sense if Flemeth is the maker. She hasn't been around for THAT long, else the legends of her would go further back.

She is, something else though.

Yeah I agree, does anybody else see the similarities between the chantry and christianity? In other worlds like the Forgotten Realms the gods make their presence known but in the world of Dragon Age the only reason anyone believes in the Maker is through blind faith, even the person in charge of looking after the "holy relics of Andraste" doubts their authenticity. The only bit of proof that the Maker could exist is in the healing powers of Andraste's ashes but even they could be the result of some phenomena unrelated to the Maker.

Something did come to Andraste, and something did affect her and give her and edge over the Imperium.

Something also convinced the Archon to end her suffering.

It might not be an all powerful creator, but it may just be a VERY powerful fade spirit.

The fact that the Old Gods (who supposedly taught the Tevinters magic and obviously were powerful and influential enough for all of Thedas to worship them) exist, and are imprisoned means something very strong exists in the universe.

Also, the bold is probably not a wise thing to add, some people may take it the wrong way.

Flemeth could be the Maker, working towards a greater good. Her actions may not be descernable to who are unable to to percieve the greater tapestry of events.

Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris jokes stopped being funny in 2002.

As for Flemeth, we know so little about her that the team could give her any origin, be that as one of the ancient Tevinter mages (that invaded the Fade?) or even as an Old God reborn. We know not nearly enough to make a decent enough guess.

This is why I really hope she is a party member and we learn more of her in DA2. She is so intrestiung because we know nothing about her. We don't even know if she is truly human anymore, she could just be a pride demon that kept that body.

If Flemeth were the Maker and responsible for the Darkspawn, why would she have wanted the Warden to stop the Blight? Certainly she wouldn't be afraid of her own creations.

I think the maker is just a very powerful fade spirit or even a demon.

Flemeth has as much chance as being the maker as Sandal does. On the other hand she does remind me of Fizban.

Nah, i don' tthink so, we still don't know exactly what were the ancient dragons god neither elven's gods, The lady of the forest and Flemeth are akin (well at some point) Flemeth "fuse" with a special spirit (or maybe a demon) mean Zathrian fuse a wolf with a ancient spirit...

By the way... The lady of fores it's older than Flemeth ? Can't remember
