The biggest problem, to me, with the Dragon age IP; is that it's called "Dragon age"

Why? Becouse it kind of limits the game, you need to be in the dragon age timeline in the dragon age IP Becouse.. Well it's called Dragon age.

Can't go to the next age, and still call it dragon age, becouse it's not.

And this kind of frustrates me :P

I think that's the biggest problem, this also bothers me in Anime series as well, like Naruto, you know that guy cant die or anything, becouse the show is named after the guy.

Anyway, figured I'd just mention it, It would be great if a Bioware person could come in and say that they'd just call it "Diablo Age" or whatever if they pass on the next age, but still being in the same universe.

If you guys know what im talking about here, im horrible at explaining things. ^^;

To sum it up. Calling the game "Dragon Age" instead of "Thedas" limits the game to be spent inside the dragon age, instead of any time, anywhere(Granted you can still go anywhere now, within the dragon age), within Thedas.

Not sure if anyone have thought about it. These are those silly concerns I think about

I tend to agree, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, there's still plenty of time left in the Dragon Age and lots more to come.

The Dragon Age has plenty of timing remaining - it will be years before this becomes any sort of issue, IMO. And honestly, I prefer a certain finiteness to a series. I don't want IPs to go on indefinitely.

If the game was called Thedas, then the game would be limited only to Thedas. And we know there are different parts of world besides Thedas(unless Thedas just refers to the whole world). It's a big series and one of the devs joked that they're even thinking of 17 games in one interview. I think it won't always be called Dragon Age. It doesn't have to be. The whole story or time-line could just progress on to the next Age and BioWare could just give it a different name. That's all.

If you read the classic, "julius ceaser" you would know that that isn't true.

A lot can happen in one year. Many stories. A lot can happen in such a long timeline as this.

A certain era limit could do good for storytelling, making hero crossovers and such.

I really hope this "different perspective" thing will turn out great, it has so much potential.

On PnP sessions, turning your old seasoned PC into an important NPC can give a lot of charm to the adventure.

But it makes the game overly referential, and we wouldn't want that. :wizard:

Actually, if you stay up to date on the manga at all for naruto (which I do Posted Image)....There are rumors flying around (seeing as how the manga only really has a couple more "series" left or what not) that Naruto may end up dying like his father did or someway related...I wouldnt hold my breath but it's been whispered.

To be fair, the only -really- safe thing we could have called it is "Fantasy Game," and that doesn't really jump off the shelves, you know?

I wouldn't worry, though, we've got a lot of age, and a lot of Dragon left in us. We have plans, you see. Deep, diabolical plans for the future. Oh yes.

I still vote for 'There Might Be Mages'.

Hah, yeah I mean I woudnt want you to name it "The Game" or anything, I'm just.. Well you know what im talking about right? :P

I just like the game to progress, I'd be a bit tired I think if you constantly was stuck in the same time.  I'm one of those that think that if too much happends within a small timeframe, it'll just be weird.  Just how much diabolical evil word destroying events can happend within just one age? XD I can deal with two.. Forcefully swallow three. But more then that and I'll cringe.

I like to see a game like dragon age grow, and become more then just that age. To be able to go hundreds of years in the future within dragon age, and have people talking about Dragon age in the Diablo age(As a silly example for a name of an age) and talk about the dude that sacrificed himself to slay an archdemon, maybe become a legend or myth or some such.

Well, since they name the next age based on portents seen in the last year of the previous age, I guess they can keep calling it the Dragon Age so long as dragons remain the relevant omen.

Possible Thedas timeline:

Divine Age

Glory Age

Towers Age

Black Age

Exalted Age

Steel Age

Storm Age

Blessed Age

Dragon Age

Dragon Age 2: Electric Boogaloo

Still Dragon Age

Even More Dragon Age

Nug Age

Dragon Age Back Again

Historically, though, big events do tend to happen in clusters. World War I, the Depression and World War II didn't all occur within a span of 30 years through coincidence. They're interconnected in a pretty significant way.

This. Baldur's Gate 2 was set almost entirely in Amn, putting it in a different nation from the titular city altogether. So you can still call a DA game "Dragon Age" without necessarily setting it in the Dragon Age - I'd kinda like to see some stuff from the lore first-hand, Arlathan, the invasion of the Fade, Andraste's rebellion, the Orlesian occupation, et cetera.

And yeah, "Fantasy Game" is a fairly boring, if descriptive title.

If the "Legend of Heroes" name wasn't taken I'd suggest you guys use that.

I mean, its direct and to the point. Completely opposite of Deus Ex which I heard had a confusing name so people didn't notice it as easily.

Ah.. marketing

Good point.

Anyway, the world of Thedas is suitably large and has enough unexplored cultures and areas that 70 years is plenty of time for as many games as Bioware want to make. Think how much has happened in the last 70 years in every country on Earth.

You should have gone with "Non D&D Fantasy Game by Bioware." It can't fail.
