I don't really like the idea of the main character having a British accent (Im actually part British myself, but still), I prefer someone to sound like a regular American/Canadian, like in ME. But if they insist on going that route, then certainly Jennifer Hale is a major option given how great she did with Bastilla. She's certainly awesome enough to do it well. I do also like the idea of the girl who did Jeanette and Therese from VTM:BL (quite possibly the greatest RPG ever) doing the role also, who didn't want to romance Jeanette? Tremendous voice acting there.

PS, I agree completely about the Jacob thing, I just don't talk to him at all, you can't, as there are no non-nauseating choices :) . Of course if they'd done the same thing, only with Tali instead of Jacob, I wouldn't have complained :) . But apparently the head ME guy doesn't approve of that sort of thing, so he screwed the rest of us over just to please himself. Oh well :) .

So the bottom line is give us more Jennifer Hale, or the Jeanette/Therese girl, either one will be great, just please don't make the English accent too extreme, it sure can get annoying.

You couldn't really do this though, you have to consider that Hawke is from Ferelden.

Yes, they've set the precedent that elves and dwarves sound American/Canadian. They pretty much have to go with that. Hmm.... Wait, maybe not, given the other things they're doing away with.... ;)
On the topic, I couldn't relate to either of the Shepards, but that wasn't the actors' faults. I just don't like not choosing my own dialogue, and feeling like I'm pushing my actor around the game instead of being my character. It doesn't have anything to do with the quality of acting, really.

If it HAS to be voice acted, then I think it should be by actors who are actually British. There's a reason that Steve Valentine was so good as Alistair. Okay, lots of reasons, but that's one. ;)

The only thing worse than having Mark Meer as Hawke would be Mark Meer trying an English accent as Hawke.

I guess it wasn't awful...as long as she doesn't attempt any rousing front-line battle speeches, she'd be alright.

We all know how cool Jane Shepard is; thanks to the lovely Jennifer Hale. I just hope Bioware can find someone who can bring Hawke to life just as much as Jen did with Shepard.  :?

chances are high that the people that voiced shepard will voice hawkPosted Image

But I don't like the male Shepard voice.:(

I doubt he'll play male hawke, but i did recently find out that hes one of the elf voices in DAO, the agressive one i think

The Jeanette girl is Grey deLisle, apparently. Been mentioned a few times in this thread, she's done loads of really good work, most of which I've only just learned about :)

I see the voice thing from the other side. I'd really prefer an English (or Scottish/Welsh) accent - wouldn't object to an American accent as long it's not too 'extreme', cos I think that can get annoying! :P

On the Jacob issue - his is the one romance I won't do, as whenever my Shepard goes and leans up against the table to talk to him, I feel like I've strayed into a 1970s porn film

I can't find Jennifer Hale listed for DA on IMDB. If she did any voices in Origins, they were just random NPCs, I think. Her best English accent was Mazzy Fentan from Baldur's Gate II, in my opinion.x

Also, does anyone know who did the voice of Linu in the NWN series? That character had an attractive voice, perhaps a bit old for LadyHawke, though.

I think Jennifer Hale did the Mystical human female PC voice for Origins.

As to Shepard and Jacob that honestly just creeped me out and I always avoided Jacob because of the way Shepard talked to him. I'm not sure if that was Jennifer Hale's idea or the writer's - but it was a bad idea.
Shepard's always like "How you doin'?"
Jacob's response is always like "Uh... commander unless you have something important to say, I'm kinda busy."

Its just really awkward, hopefully they learned from that...

Yes, Femshep was great. She was JUST like Maleshep. She even walked like him.

Well, she did have a far better voice, besides that I see no difference.

I wouldn't mind Hale. I just don't want some chick with a girly, breathy or squeaky voice, otherwise I won't be able to play her. I have quite a deep voice for a chick and high voiced women put my teeth on edge (yet another reason I often end up playing male characters).

As for the accent, as long as it's not ridiculous, then whatever fits. Some of the pretend English accents in DA were dreadful (mostly minor characters). And don't get me started on the Orlesians. If you're going to have an English-sounding character, use an English actor.

Oh and I also can't romance Jacob. No priiiize for me.

Agreed. I really don't like women with shrill voices, maybe cos my my voice is quite deep too.

Alex Kingston has quite a husky sound to her voice, or not squeaky anyway. She'd work as as DA2 character, maybe.

If they go North American with the accent a choice that hasn't been mentioned is Natalia Cigliuti (Sigrun). For a British accent perhaps Nicola Bertram or Emma Fielding?

I'd love either Corri English(Rica) or Beth Graham(Shianni), but they're probably not to everyone's taste.

I think this heavily implies that they are using a English accent.

loved him in Uncharted 2.

Sadly I don't know how he does for English accents. The problem with American actors like him and, say, Nathan Fillion is that if you hired them they either have to sound like themselves or... they'll sound like someone who's trying on an English accent, and maybe sound completely different from the reason you wanted them in the first place. I mean, my nerd-crush on Nathan Fillion knows no bounds-- but can you picture him doing an English accent?

I guess we could always make him an elf. But I dunno.

Though I do want Natalia Cigliuti.

I really liked Shianni's voice...reminded me of Zooey Deschanel.

I love her, but her Australian accent would be distracting, IMO.  All I would think of is Miranda in Thedas.

I'm not as worried about the voice acting, Bioware has a good track record at finding top notch VAs for their games.  I'm more worried about Fem Hawke's animations and body model.  Will she have a giraffe neck and ridiculous looking animations if Male Hawke is the main concern, and she's just an afterthought?  :(

Honestly, if Hawke is less of a decided character than Shepard was, I don't want a very FemShep voice--actually, I imagine it will be hard to pick, since you may have a character that's a veritable medieval Shep, but another might have this super vulnerable young girl.

In any case, I believe they'll do a good job of it...speculating doesn't really help me, in this one little case, since casting choices are always done on what an actor has previously done, as opposed to the potential they might have. Essentially, people pick an actor/VA that has played a part that's closest to the one they cast for. If someone actually hired that person to do that voice it would come off as jarring.

I agree very much with this. There was a scene in ME2 in which FemShep was talking to Garrus, and she was sitting wearing the little black dress from the Kasumi dlc. Clearly, her animations had been copied/pasted from ManShep, as no self-respecting woman would sit in such a way in a very short dress

Please, Bioware, no almost-porn animations for LadyHawke, unless I'm given a choice whether to do them or not, thanks.x
