I am depressed: Not really, just disappointed.

I really wish I knew where Bioware is taking my most favorite RPG game ever. It depresses me that DA 2 may be heading in a far reaching direction that I don't know if I will appreciate. It's hard for me to continue playing DA:O not knowing the full details. I find myself searching the Net looking for a similar game, but none can be found. I am tired of single-shooters because they have no depth, no continuity. I tried playing Mass Effect but hated it. I don't have the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion CD anymore so I can't play that again. I can reinstall X3 Terran Conflict, by Ubersoft, but that game is so impersonal and so very slow.  Alas, perhaps I will just go for a walk in downtown Portland, Oregon.

Well you should try to not get so worked up over DA2. I share your concern after hearing about Hawke only being human and the dialouge wheel rolling it's ugly head in DA2 but its still far off from the final product and only a little bit of info has been released so far. Who knows maybe Bioware is gonna suprise us with the DA2 video on August 17th.(the day after my B-day XD) Oh and this may be a dumb question but do you have BG1 or BG2? You could play those if you don't feel like playing DAO I guess.

That and Hawke, but that's all we know right now--other than they are going to change the fight mechanics too.

I hear ya. True, we only know five things about DA2 but those five things scream Mass Effect formula. Very disappointing.

No, I don't. Are they any good? How similar are they to DA?

I feel the same way, there has been nothing close to the level of Dragon Age for me and now it could end in one fell swoop.

It just seems so wrong to screw with a perfectly well developed game on its own merit. I think it is ludicrous. But, who am I to say, I am just a 63 year old gamer: what do I know?

BG series is a 2D isometric roleplaying set based on AD&D rulesets

since we're sorta talking about baldur's gate, is it necessary to play the first one to understand whats going on in the second one or do they do catch you up during the intro? because i was thinking about borrowing my brother's copy of baldur's gate 2

The combat mechanics only changing on Xbox and PS3, PC will be unchanged.

Shouldn't that mean you should understand what AD&D is?

I am happy they are making some changes. Dragon age origins was awesome yes but I might be bored if the game played exactly the same. It wouldn't feel like a sequel just an expansion pack

But see, if the game follows the Mass Effect formula as it appears to be thus far, then it won't be fresh at all. That seems awfully boring to me.

It seems you are not the only one feeling this way. I tell myself that I had a life before Dragon Age: Origins and If Dragon Age 2 goes the way of Mass Effect then so be it.

My memory isn't what it use to be. That's what happens to some of use when we get old. Your memory starts to decline.

Hmmmm. I can totally see why your opinion is different from others and deserves it's own thread. You really bring some deep new points to the discussion.

It takes the skeleton so to speak of Dungeon and Dragon rules and implements them into a pseuo-real time game

Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment all feature this and they all run on a engine that plays on a two dimensional plane. Baldur's Gate specifically was made by Bioware so there is information on Bioware's site regarding that game, and it is all over these forums as it is brought up quite often.

BG was made in 98 and I believe BG 2 was made in 2000. BG 2 follows a slightly different ruleset than BG.

With regards to how similar they are to DA. Its hard to say, BG relies on its AD&D rules much more than DA relies on its own rules.
