Well you should try to not get so worked up over DA2. I share your concern after hearing about Hawke only being human and the dialouge wheel rolling it's ugly head in DA2 but its still far off from the final product and only a little bit of info has been released so far. Who knows maybe Bioware is gonna suprise us with the DA2 video on August 17th.(the day after my B-day XD) Oh and this may be a dumb question but do you have BG1 or BG2? You could play those if you don't feel like playing DAO I guess.
No, I don't. Are they any good? How similar are they to DA?

I hear ya. True, we only know five things about DA2 but those five things scream Mass Effect formula. Very disappointing.
It just seems so wrong to screw with a perfectly well developed game on its own merit. I think it is ludicrous. But, who am I to say, I am just a 63 year old gamer: what do I know?

That and Hawke, but that's all we know right now--other than they are going to change the fight mechanics too.
The combat mechanics only changing on Xbox and PS3, PC will be unchanged.

Shouldn't that mean you should understand what AD&D is?

My memory isn't what it use to be. That's what happens to some of use when we get old. Your memory starts to decline.

Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment all feature this and they all run on a engine that plays on a two dimensional plane. Baldur's Gate specifically was made by Bioware so there is information on Bioware's site regarding that game, and it is all over these forums as it is brought up quite often.
BG was made in 98 and I believe BG 2 was made in 2000. BG 2 follows a slightly different ruleset than BG.
With regards to how similar they are to DA. Its hard to say, BG relies on its AD&D rules much more than DA relies on its own rules.
