But see, if the game follows the Mass Effect formula as it appears to be thus far, then it won't be fresh at all. That seems awfully boring to me.

How so? The dialogue wheel is different (its a small difference but still), Hawke is not pre-defined, he is actually been stated to be a lot more customizable than Shepard and have different roles and what not, the combat will be unchanged on the PC, and I don't see too many changes in the graphical style either, personally.

The only problems I see are the lack of race choices and VO.

Hell yeah, here we go again...

This just isn't fair to complain about DA2 already. We just don't have enough info.

Anyway I think the game looks great so far, I'm sure that we'll get deeper story, better companions in exchange for the ony human stuff, etc.

It's just feels like that u guys wants the same DA:O back with new story... And what about the upgrades? It looks like that BioWare could do anything, there would be a lot of concerns, and complains.

Let's be open minded and wait for the trailer at least...

No offense at all, just stating my opinions. :D

I really wish I knew where Bioware is taking my most favorite RPG game ever. It depresses me that DA 2 may be heading in a far reaching direction that I don't know if I will appreciate. It's hard for me to continue playing DA:O not knowing the full details. I find myself searching the Net looking for a similar game, but none can be found. I am tired of single-shooters because they have no depth, no continuity. I tried playing Mass Effect but hated it. I don't have the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion CD anymore so I can't play that again. I can reinstall X3 Terran Conflict, by Ubersoft, but that game is so impersonal and so very slow.  Alas, perhaps I will just go for a walk in downtown Portland, Oregon.

I agree with you, Jallard, it is depressing.  This forum is rampant with rah-rah Bioware-can-do-no-wrong types and Mass Effect fans who'll try to shout you down as a "whiner" or suggest you get therapy etc., so just be forewarned.

I think we got majorly spoiled by Origins, that's the bottom line.  But the DLCs have been so disappointing and now the DA2 announcement with its dim news, it does take the shine off Origins as well.  I'm trying to finish up my current character for completion's sake, but it seems kind of pointless.  I'm still interested in the Dragon Age story, just hate what I've heard about the new game thus far.  The new lore information is interesting, at least.

I think for now the best thing to do is just follow the news developments as they release new information.  I don't think the game is changing quite as much as the doomsayers think it is.  We don't know if it's going to be as great as Origins, but we also don't know that it's going to be so drastically different that it doesn't do its predecessor justice.  Hopefully DA2 ends up being just as good -or better- than DA:O.

This website isn't working well with my mobile app so no quoting or editing for me. Anyway...

Grommash94, how do you figure the roles will be different? You could play different roles with Shepard too, so I'm not really sure how you could think it isn't the same formula.

Mary (one of the writers) confirmed that Shepard is a marine who has to do this and this, but that Hawke is someone who becomes important for some reason.

Can't find the exact quote atm, but that is more or less what she said. You choose what Hawke becomes, and how he becomes it.

The roles you played with Shepard though were never mentioned.  The best example of this is when you pick Adept as a role and Kaidan is complaining about his L2 implants and Brain Camp, Shepard stands there and has a conversation like she has no idea what the place was like.  When you really look at it, picking Adept should automatically give you a background choice that wasn't even available being that kids should have been sent to Jump Zero for boot camp.

It's very likely that your role in DA2 will be referenced.  Especially if you're a mage since you'd be an apostate to some degree.  Not set in stone of course, and it hasn't been confirmed, but that is certainly the likely situation in DA2.

There is an entire thread discussing how people feel about DA2 being different from DAO. Please take your discussion there. Thank you.

End of line.
