Seeing as the game takes place over the span of ten years I hope they up the approval system.  It would be fun to have to form close relationships with ALL your companions if you want them to stay.  I mean ten years is a long time and even if someone likes ya to follow you around for that amount of time would take allot.   I just think it would be fun to have your companions leave after a time if you don't keep up with them or just leave em in camp all the time.

Also the ten year time frame is exiting.  If you are friends or lovers with someone for that amount of time you can bet it will be a much deeper and emotionally invested relationship.  Really hope Bioware delivers on these fronts.  The party interaction and relationships have always been the highlight of Bioware games and this game has the potential to hit it out of the ball park.  So come on and blow us away!

I think it would be interesting if not all the companions stay with you the entire time. People come and go, that sort of thing. Companion Q has a personal quest and leaves for a while, but the you run into them again. Companion Y is only a companion for X segment of game. It seems odd to have kept the exact same group for around ten years, with no one taking a vacation/leave of absence/etc.

I hope they remove it and make it something like in ME2

It ruined gradual progression. Leliana fell in love with me in less than an hour after I spammed her with gifts. And I slept with Morrigan before Lothering and I never spoke to her again since I did all dialogue options. I hope it's gradual like in ME2. But since it's set over several years it probably will be (you get several dialogue options each "year")

It really depends on what you make Shepard do. I only had 1 or 2 dialogs with Garrus and Tali. Thane and Samara had at least five times as much dialog. I can see what you're trying to get at though, and I agree.

I'd personally like them to remove all non-plot gifts. Morrigan keeps the grimoires/mirror, Leliana keeps the flower, etc. That along with a time-gated cue for certain dialogs would make for a fairly good system.

Are you surprised? You knew from the start that she was more of DA person...

I'd like that. Build up a real friendship with people over the years.

And earn the final level: Supreme Broship.

It honestly bothered me a lot that in Awakening the approval of companions not in my party reacted to decisions of mine.

For the major (especially main plot) stuff it admittedly makes sense since someone would likely mention it at camp (and some might reference it in special dialog trees if it's like their one big pet peeve or something), but every little thing? I may just as well decide who I take with me solely on stats then if roleplaying-wise it makes hardly any difference.

I hope BioWare also takes a page from Obsidian and implements mechanical benefits for you and your companions for both high AND low approval.

For instance, using DAO as a mold, maybe your and Morrigan's constant hatred of one another has increased your constitution, because if you die, that would make her happy. And that can't happen. Not at any cost.
