While I've no doubt that DA:O will be chock full 'o gaming goodness, there are things I'd like to see in the game in addition to all the "knees bent, running about, advancing behavior." This is a pre-release post some some may actually be in the game. Still...

1. Housing. Yes, I know the first DLC offering (Warden's Keep) includes a "base of operations" with storage capabilities. I hope it is more than just an outhouse with a hat rack. I really enjoyed the housing aspect of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Being able to display spoils and weapons (in display cases) really added to the game. Would be nice to have mannequins to display armor and maybe stuffed statues of various animalia kills.

2. In keeping with the housing concept, it would be nice if there was an "achievement tavern." By that, I mean a tavern or pub that dynamically changes as you accomplish certain feats in the game. Defend a town or castle and a crested shield appears on the tavern wall. Vanquish a beast, and it's head appears mounted. Rescue a province, and ale from that area becomes available for purchase. Mmmm.. ..mead.. ..that reminds me...

3. Booze! There should be alcohol in the game and it should impair you. Maybe even make you pass out and wake up next to a moose. Seriously, though, drinking should be included.

4. Tabards. Make them completely customizable by the players. As I understand it, all of the armor designs will be uniform for all players. Tabards make the in-game experience a little more personable.

5. Bards (non-playable) should start performing songs throughout the land as you pass certain milestones. Enter a town tavern after completing a part of the main story arc and you'll hear bards performing songs that recognize your accomplishment.

6. Permanent scarring? Not sure about this one. Maybe have it as an option in the config panel. Anyone ever play Fable? If your character takes a lot of damage as they progress through the game, their avatar develops permanent scars. By the end of the game, your toon's face could end up looking like a road map if you got hit a lot during the journey. Maybe have this as an option for your armor (if you wear the same set long enough). Have armor show permanent battle damage.

7. Real camp environments. If your party decides to rest, a makeshift camp (fire, tents maybe?) appears.

8. Sets of armor that involve multiple quests to complete. Get the helm from one area, the breastplate from another, etc..

9. (Add your suggestion here)

NOTE: I "know" that many of my suggestions are aspects of games that already exist. It doesn't mean these things couldn't exist in DA:O too.

Sheesh, for the first few points I almost thought this is turning into an MMO. Good points nonetheless.

What Captain Hex said (but with less venom).

One day somebody'll make an UBER-RPG that has amazing, in depth customizable gameplay, everything you could ever want and more, plus an epic story that isn't the end-all or be-all of the game world, etc. etc.

Sadly, this game isn't that game. For which I am glad. This is a Bioware game, and it will be made in the style that Bioware tends to favor.

These would have been good suggestions if they were original, but they exist in other games already and if they were to be included in DA:O it would reduce it's originality.

Nope. If the ideas are good, they will improve the game if applied well. The quality of a game is always more important than its originality. Being original is good, but being better is better.

Take the recently released Borderland for example.

So if I take what you say at face value, Bioware shouldn't include anything that has already been done. Hmm, have other games used elves, dwarves, etc..? What about the whole dragon / medieval theme? Or classes such as rogues, mages, etc..?

No. Bioware can use concepts that have been done in the past (with other games). What will make Bioware stand apart from the other offerings is their ability to provide these things in a unique and rewarding way. Which, I've no doubt, Bioware can accomplish.

Baelin, I'm sure Bioware, of all developers, has a few nest eggs in the game that will make you happy, including a few new things no one has ever done. This is a new world folks, there's bound to be a few things that will make us gasp and jump for joy. Will it be housing? Who knows? Will it be Armor Dying? I wish.

Have Faith.

If there's anything I've learned from playing Bioware games, is that they do not Disappoint.

Yes they would be good if applied well but these specific suggestions detail what has been done in another games, take housing from elder scrolls for example. While going through the story and killing off darkspawn, you wouldnt really have time to go home and have a good rest, it wouldnt make sense in the fact that you have chosen to leave home and join the Grey Wardens to put an end to the blight.

In my post i was referring to your spcific suggestions in which you are clearly suggesting how they should be implemented, thus no variation. You talk of concept such as the medival theme, Bioware has made changes to this theme and other concepts you mention but has not copied exactly what others have done. To me your suggestions seemed to ask they implement them exactly how they have been done before. I agree it would be great for Bioware to include these things but in a unique way but i disagree they implement it the way you suggest it (No differentiation from what has been done before)

Regardless of not having played the game and not knowing exactly how much inventory space you have, I must say that not having a storage place (that I won't have to pay real money for) is troubling. I always find myself running out of room right as I get to a part crazy gear starts dropping from everything and I curse myself for not having room to pick it up. Easily one of my most hated things in ME was the lack of place to store things.

Attaining a keep, castle, etc and being able to expand it was one of the things that made the Suikoden games so much fun to play. The NWN2 OC adopted a similar idea, though on a very reduced scale. I wouldn't mind seeing something like this is the game, but I am sure this game will be great with or without.

Also, the more you can customize your characters look, the better. I think it's a shame, for instance, that there is no height adjustment for the character during character creation. But I guess all men are created equal...

I just sold everything in ME because there was no reason to keep the weaker equipment.

* Note the bold type...

Please don't confuse an attempt to clarify my points with examples as me stating it has to be implemented "exactly" as I type it. Too often, messages get lost unless details are applied. I never said these things had to added in a specific manner. I gave "examples", not "mandates."

As for offering suggestions prior to the games release, I wasn't aware that offering suggestions was akin to criticizing the game. No matter how great something is, there is always room for building upon it.

Eheh, I did this too. ^__^; I ended up with a goatload of cash and not much to spend it on...Well, this happens in most of the games I play.

The lack of storage in Dragon Age really doesn't bother me, because I never use storage. I just sell everything that's inferior to what I already have. ;P And if I get too tired of some items that I can't sell...I just drop them. Yay, litering!

You know the best part about Dragon Age for the PC? Is the user created content that will allow you to modify the game to your specific desires. Granted that may come months after release, but it will come be assured of that.

I think having properties of some sort is pretty important. It helps you get a better feel for your character when you know where they live whilst they're not out slaying enemies. It gives them more of a place in the game, more of a purpose. Even if it's not possible to buy multiple properties I think it's essential to have at least 1 and be able to store items there. Trophy cabinet type things would be a nice to have but certainly aren't essential.

Does this game have a day/night cycle? I think that's quite important too for this type of game.

I suppose I can live without it then. But to help lose yourself in a living breathing world it really should have day cycles.

How about some gambling. In Mass Effect "Quesar" sucked. However, I loved "Pazaak" in KOTOR and KOTOR2.
Actually, the best in game gamiling minigame I had come across was the "Dwarven Poker Dice Game" in "The Witcher." I wonder can you bet on some of the Dwaren Arena Combats? Also, please no dog fighting.

Another quick thought. If you are going to live in camp maybe you start out with a bedroll and a foot locker and then start adding things like a large tent, cot, sleeping furs, lanterns, a keg of two of the best dwarven ale, a large chest (Think Diablo 2). You can go from sleeping under a open sky to owning a tent akin to a Sheik's.

Would it be possible to hire a servent or two. Someone to care for and move your camp possesions. Such as a male who can put your camp gear on a packhorse when you break camp. Hire a cook who would wash his hands before placing them in the pot. Maybe you can hire a pretty female camp follower who will do the washing, cook your meals, treat your injuries, and warm your bedroll.
