So I know how many points I can put in talents/skills etc. Assuming you do a majority of the side quests that is. I try to do all of them, but I may miss a few here and there (I already missed the cache quest in the forest area- now that area is innacessible- I hate being forced into the final battle and not having a chance to finish exploring).
This is especially important for my rogue Lillianna, I want to know if I can spend points to put more into stealing, or just concentrate on dps skills. Her dps isn't that great, and I'd like to improve it.
About what level do you get up to end game?

I did about 80-90% of sidequests, all without the memory band, and ended up at level 23 at the end.
^That was including both DLC's though.

Just barely hit 23 by the end, only ended up not doing one sidequest that I found (Couldn't find that last noble love letter)

Was just under 23 at the end of the game, with both DLC', no Ring, and with the 75% Side quest completion achievement.

thanks, gives me something to plan for. I wasn't sure if there was a cap at 20 or not. And like in the NWN games I usually only ended up 17 or so.
I'm only 10 now, so I got plenty of points I can spend still.

It's safe to say you will end up in the 20s. I was 21, although I didn't do all sidequests. Far from it actually.

I didn't do a lot of side quest and I finished the game at 21. I am really dissapointed at how they handled the end of the game though. Sure they left you keep playing and it supposedly takes place before the final battle but it dropped all the side quest!! Only premium content is still marked as do able. I had a ton of side quest in my Journal prior to the final show down and now I got none as their all put in the "complete" section which is where quest go both when you finish them or when you can't finish them anymore.
Luckily I saved right before the Landsmeet which is about when you get stuck on the final stretch and can't stop until the end. I know you can still do some stuff after it but Redcliff becomes part of the path to the end so if you had quest there before I don't think they are doable after the Landsmeet though I could be wrong. I might go back and do them but instead I've gotten into another play through as a different origin and it is nice how a lot of things are different. But of course some are the same

I was level 22 I think, the first time, and I didn't actually do everything that playthrough either.

The cap, however, does exist. It isn't 20, it's 25.
Experience to next level: NaN.

First time I ended up at 20, second time 22. First time was with some sidequests, second time I cleared everything I could find.
A tip to get levels is to have a rogue in your party. Every trap disarmed and every chest unlocked gives some experience. Also remember to click every book you find since there are literally hundreds of codex entries.

If you unlock almost every chest, disarm almost every trap, do almost all the sidequests and turn in a moderate (nothing over the top) amount of hand-ins for your troops, as well as kill everything (aka - clear every zone fully). You will always be around level 23.5 when you defeat the arch demon. This includes fully completing both current DLC.
Obviously you can get higher by going OTT with the hand ins with the troops.
It has me somewhat worried atm with additional DLC's coming that we will be hitting the level cap before reaching the end of the game. I dislike this. One of the very few things that use to annoy me about BG. I hope that they increase the level cap or make it slower to level - dunno but reaching the level cap before the end of the game always puts me off.

Archivist sash/belt boosts the experience gained from books from 50 points to 75 points. Well worth buying if you want cheap xp.

Too bad this game doesn't have any refightable enemies. Everything in this game is one time only.

my thread got bumped
.
I ended up 22 with my human noble warrior
23 with my elf mage
And probably 23 with my dwarf noble. I gave alot of gold and items to the allied supply crates.
Which begs the question of why some origins have so much less xp than others. Although I did skip a few quests with my human noble such as the assassin quests (and Cardash Thaig). But I did everything else I could (Couldn't do Slim's quests, but neither could my mage)

Just short of 23 my last game. I stepped in few traps and I had 2 quests bugged out so I can safely assume 23 would be my max.

I didn't complete or even start a number of side quests, namely a number of companion quests, Elora's Halla, the one about the preacher in Orzammar, Herbalist's quest, the Lost Nug quest, the Key to the City quest (did find the location, didn't steal the key), the Trial of Crows quests, the more shady quests offered by Mages' Collective and some rather suspicious quests offered by the Blackstone Irregulars and other questionable quests. Aside from that, I think, I completed each and every quest that was available to my PC. Since he was a mage without any single point in Stealth or Stealing, that doesn't include the quests offered by Slim Couldry.
