After seeing the screenshots of DA2 in Game Informer, i have noticed that the monsters they are battling look like cavemen with chain coifs on their heads and very spikey armor (and no lips). The caption below the picture mentions that these are suppossed to be darkspawn. If this is the case i am very dissapointed, these new darkspawn look more like orcs or goblins from other fantasy settings, rather than the awesome tainted reflections of men, dwarves, elves, and qunari from DA:O. I know that this is early in DA2's production, but i realy hope that this is not the final reflection of what darkspawn will look like in DA2. Any thoughts or disagreements?

the graphics is going to be improved, so are the models. they said it would look better then DA1 and i bet it will. so don't worry too much. srsly those pictures look like Pre-alphe and no game looks good at pre-alpha.

Except the game's getting released in nine months.  If they're still in pre-alpha, we're all in trouble.

Those models and graphics will be improved, they'll be much more detailed at a much higher standard. Dw

I certainly hope not. They don't, even in the slightest, fit the way the lore or books describe them.

They DID need to be re-designed so they didn't look like they were orcs directly ripped out of the Jackson LoTR movie like they are in DA:O...but from what we've seen.....give me back my orcs. those new darkspawn look like ****.

and the armor design is atrocious....makes them look like low-polygons straight out of the N64 days (not talking about textures here before the tards chime in)

Those aren't ordinary darkspawn, they're disciples (go play Awakening, or at least watch a few videos before you complain more). If there are normal darkspawn, they wont look like that.

Probably isn't pre-alpha. David said the game looks better than it does in those pics though, in some other thread.

mhhhhhh wouldn't bet on that horse. only because the graphic looks like pre-alpha doesn't mean the games still pre-alpha. we don't know when these screens were taken, so they already could be 3 months old.

I think they got a little carried away with the whole pointy edgy spikey thing. It could be the darkspawn look in contrast to everyone else but it appears Hawke and everyone else are also very spikey. I hope they will tone it down some and create more realistic weapon models instead of oversized can openers.

I have faith in the artists and will reserve judgment for finished visuals.

I can see the point about them being disciples, it didn't occur to me because i have never seen that many in a fight. They seemed more like generals than common troopers, but i do see your point. I still believe they do not look darkspawnish enough for me. I understand that these could be very early models though. I do however, like the ogre.

Disciples are just 'enlightened' darkspawn. Naturally, the more that are enlightened, the more common they will be in lower ranked positions. And considering this covers 10 years, theres definately a high chance that we'll encounter larger and larger groups of them.

Didn't Disciples look just like normal darkspawn though? I don't recall them having human looking skin, anyway. This is a pretty big retcon if it's an accurate representation of what darkspawn will look like in the final product, unless there's a decent explanation for it.

I'm hoping that an increase of enlighted darkspawn means we may be able to recruit one, preferably one of the nicer ones, I've got a thread about a "Darkspawn Companion", check it out if you're interested.

I think we, as a fanbase should call them "Pinkspawn" until we get to see them as finished products. Purely for comedy value.

I think this question will be answered once we are shown what the Darkspawn that destroy Lothering look like. If they have the new designs, it's a retcon. If they look the same as they did in DA:O, these are just new types of darkspawn, presumably either because of the Architect or because it's set in a different country.

No worrys mate, there Alpha shots.

So they don't have the final skin :D

If...if thats what they REALLY look like though....Then it looks like Skeletor is hiring again.

That makes no sense. Their models and skins have clearly been entirely changed, and they don't look particularly low res. Look at the Game Informer article.

I'm not sure I like the difference in their appearance, but I guess it's not too important. Hopefully they won't be the main enemy type anyway.

David Gaider DID confirm there was no saving the world or battling an ancient evil, so I think darkspawn are just going to be random, unimportant enemies.

Well, they look more like mutant humans rather than orcs & goblins which works well.

Well the Disciples looked wayyyyyyy more human than the normal Hurlock's they also had those cowl things that these ones have the chainmail coif i guess. also if you look real close at the Disciples they have the more human looking teeth which from the picture of Hawke about to decapitate one of them these ones have plus over 10 years id imagine that they (Disciples or just normal Darkspawn) would have evolved a bit.
