Before the update, yes.....planet scanning was tedious. After the patch, however, I actually went and scanned more planets. I found it a lot easier and more enjoyable than running around in the Mako, mining for minerals.
As for getting this thread back ON topic.....I agree with a post from earlier - both games got the inventory system wrong, but out of the two, ME 2 was better (or at least, the lesser of two evils).

I just started replaying Mass Effect 1, I thought it would be fun to play the two back to back. Seriously, the inventory system is way more tedious and annoying than I had remembered. There are so many problems with it.
You collect soooo much garbage that you have to sort through, and it is constantly increasing in level which means you have to go back and redistribute it. This is a total pain in the ass because you have to go through everyone's lockers on the Normandy. It's not like getting a new sword in dragon age or anything like that, as the new stuff never has any cool "powers", it just boils down to getting slightly higher damage or accuracy.
It is truly awful with armor, because your squadmates need to level up before they can equip it, but you can't get to all of their screens to level them up unless you choose them as squadmates. That means that you have to go someplace like the citadel and take them all out, level them up, and then equip them, otherwise when you sell all your junk you might end up selling something that they could be using.
Finally, it is just really questionable from an immersion perspective. I'm supposed to be an officer in an important military and an agent of the galactic government, and yet I scavange all my equipment from enemies I kill and get all my funding by selling junk I collect.
Not that the Mass Effect 2 system is perfect-- for one thing it would be nice if it required less effort to change your armor. If that were true I'd be much more likely to wear specific armor for specific missions. But I do think it is a clear improvement-- it may have technically removed some "complexity", but that complexity didn't add any fun to the game.

For me Alpha Protocol RPG elements are sky-high compared to ME and ME2, but as you say a broken shooter which all people reacted to as a 0/10, 1/10, 2/10 instead of trying to understand the very easy rules and mechanics. Which is what Bioware avoided for ME with a simple shooting system and Obsidion got insulted and all hope of making a sequel for a good game is now gone for them.
I find this very clumsy by the developer. i have not seen Alpha Protocols marketing campaign. but all it took for Mass Effect 1 was to let people know that it was an RPG with guns.
I imagine that Alpha Protocol just thought that Mimicking a TPSRPGs ad campaign (ME2) would do it... well, no. they have somehow led many to think that there were no dice rolls behind the guns, otherwise, it wouldn't get butchered for it.
All it took was to skip the ****ing crosshair and implement a "mark target/choose command/execute" system and ****storm averted. both games failed. one went all out shooter, the others now dead sequel should have went all out RPG.
Don't make **** look like one thing and then it's one other, that's beyond stupid and any kid knows that and any adult should too.
Short: Alpha Protocol looked like a TPS and wasn't, therefore it gets raped by people who thought it was an attempt at including proper action in an RPG. ME went shooter and lived to see another day while still retaining enought RPG vibe for people here to forget themselves and hate on the GoW crowd.
