David,
I know that when you talk about you guys feeling depressed and even crying, as much as you guys are pros and as much as it must take a boatload for something like that to happen, putting yourselves out there every single day, reading some of the flat-out horrible things people say about you.... I know that you guys must let it out at some point. There's just so much we can take before we just overload.

But thank you for being a part of the community. You guys are all great writers, and from the sounds of it, amazingly jovial people. Keep it up.

one thing can be said for sure, Bioware devs spam around their forums a lot more than most others

Have you seen the Chinsaw Swords thread?

Bioware hasn't let me down yet, even ME2 was enjoyable, so I'm sure DA2 will be more than fine.

The series of games is called Dragon Age, not The Grey Wardens. And right now we have this great and young fantasy world that we can get to know.

I can't help but think it's a great move to dissociate "Dragon Age" from "Grey Wardens", otherwise they would end up being the jedis of the DA world (in the SW world nothing else interesting seems to exist, if we look at the SW videogames that come out).

While my complaint has NEVER been that I don't get to continue my same character...

I can agree whole heartedly with what I quoted above.

Star Wars - Jedi = Nothing.  And, IMO, Jedi are lame.

So a nice move side-stepping the "Grey Wardens = Jedi" trap.

Great post, Clertar! You've basically summed up my thoughts on DA2 perfectly.

I too loved the characters in DA:O, but I want to meet new people, and see new sights! And I don't want to keep playing the same character over and over.

I'd be even more excited if I knew there would be a toolkit or not.

Whenever I look at the map of Thedas, it makes me wonder what kind of people live in those areas outside of Ferelden and also of their lores. Much as I love my Cousland, I've always thought his story was just a prequel (I never really thought "Origins" was referring to the different origins of the characters), so I wasn't really surprised when they said there's going to be a new character.

Now my only wish is that we won't be confined in the Free Marches. I wanna travel all over Thedas woo!

Ah...the air in this thread is so nice and fresh, not like the other bazillions of threads full of rants based on mere speculations.

Fixed it for you bro.

On that note, I'm not excited yet. Because I don't know much about it yet. I'm happy that it's coming out.

It's good to know that a lot of people are also excited about this game. I just wonder what new creatures and enemies they have in store for us?  Will there be new weapons (flail, warhammer, pikes, throwing axes)? spells? Armor?

I'm also excited of the new places like the free marches and the culture that they have compared to "FERELDEN SMELLS LIKE WET DOG" thing :D:D:D.

When we play as hawke, how will we respond/ dialogue options  if we meet grey wardens, templars, mages, etc  in the Free Marches (if possible)? Will they be different from those in Ferelden? I'm really curious about the next game.

I'm very hopeful for the next game to be a success although it's too early to tell, but I'm optimistic!  More screenshots please! :P:P:P

I see a lot of complaining, but I for one am really happy about the news regarding Dragon Age II.

I would have loved to see my favourite Grey Warden go on with his adventures, see what happened to the respective romances and companions (get Morrigan back somehow :P), go on building this story... BUT...

The series of games is called Dragon Age, not The Grey Wardens. And right now we have this great and young fantasy world that we can get to know. By the time we start DA II we (as real life people) will personally know the king of Ferelden, the heroic Grey Warden, an important part of the story of Ferelden, Orlais and Tevinter, also the boss of the Circle down there... I like the idea of building from zero another scope of knowledge of the DA world, that will complement what we did with DA1. Besides, what would the Grey Warden do, fight another Blight? Within the same century? Anything else would be either anticlimactic, or ridiculously huge.

The people who made all the NPCs that we enjoyed so much can still make up more awesome ones, and well as all kinds of good plots. They have given me no reason to doubt that.

I can't help but think it's a great move to dissociate "Dragon Age" from "Grey Wardens", otherwise they would end up being the jedis of the DA world (in the SW world nothing else interesting seems to exist, if we look at the SW videogames that come out). Dragon Age can thus become something much bigger, it can become the D&D/FR of computer RPGs, and for that it is really necessary to develop the whole world and all of its potential.

Yay! :P

I need at least one post like this a day. Thank you. :)

It makes a nice complement to the tears, off which I think it's already been established we writers derive our primary substance. It's been a bit of a glutton's supper around these parts lately, let me tell you.

Just chiming in i agree, if i want a trilogy i will get mass effect (which i will but dragon is just got me on a different level a whole universe, timescale, the bioware team love games, in my book they have earned trust through their previous work..

I am willing to bet the majority of rude ple will enjoy DA2 AND EAT THEIR HATS IF THEY WEAR 1

I´m apprehensive about storyline (more how it will follow the Origins than how it will stand for itself) and some comments about gameplay and art direction, but so many people are going "Ruined Forever" with so little data it amazes (and scares) me.

Feel curious why they started by realeasing this instead of other points fans would be happier about.

I can't get excited yet. There's not much information to go on. The little info I have does not make me excited. It appears to go in a direction I don't like. However, it is a good sign that people like Mr Gaider are posting on this forum. Let's hope he not only defends the devs, but also tries to figure out what we players want.

And... What's more: I wasn't excited about DAO at all during its development. Someone on this forum gave me some good reasons to try it. I did and wasn't disappointed at all. In fact I was pleasantly surprised. It could happen again. ;)

@OP Great post, agree completely. The level of high-pitched whining on these boards is bewildering. From what I've read so far this sequel sounds really interesting.

BioWare's game may not be the best thing since the
nvention of beer, but they come close enough in my book.

Thanks for all past games and best wishes for the coming
ones, not only DA II.

I too am excited about DA2. I think BioWare's taking risks with the style of narrative and the new characters, but it's the type of risk that could pay off quite well if done correctly. And Thedas is a big world. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it, through a different set of eyes.

It's still so early, so soon after the initial announcement. I understand some of the worries, and I'm not without mine, but I'm keeping them at bay until more information is revealed. We've only seen a tiny fraction of this game so far. And what I've seen definitely has me eager for more.

Did you think you would get loads of compliments and happy fans with the information your company has released so far and the apparent change of direction of the series?

You reap what you sow.  Fans have been on this boards writing about what they love about the first game and what they would like in the sequel for the best part of a year and your company seems to have ignored most of them every single one of them.

hehe, yeah.  Its one thing to want folks to remain civil and respectful.  On the other hand, no one should be surprised at the reaction so far.  You release bad news you get bad reactions.  Release good news you'll get good reactions.  I don't see how this is something you need to be a rocket scientist to understand. :D

Just wanted to chime in with my agreement. Of course we all would like to see our characters and companions that we have grown to love so much continue on, but that isn't always the best choice for a franchise as a whole. As developers and writers, the Bioware guys and gals have to make extremely tough choices regarding narrative and setting to a game they have molded. That would be stressful and frustrating when they read constant bickering on forums.

Just remember, developers and writers, forums are always like this. I know we all can't wait for the next Dragon Age chapter. I also know that it will be wonderful as always.

Look at it this way. All of this vocalization in many ways is an amazing compliment. You have developed some incredible brand loyalty here. I would be far more concerned, if I were you guys, if all you heard were crickets. ;)
