I'm fearful that Dragon Age 2 will take the same route as this, you'll be merrily along the way and then suddenly out of no where you'd be thrown into a fast foward a few years and you have no idea of what happened between those years and how it changed the world and such.

Err... no, no fears on that score. Well, hopefully anyway. You'll be warned in advance if something is going to happen which will jump you to the next narrative time frame-- as most quests do not carry over if you don't finish them in the current one. The reasoning is a bit more natural than it sounds-- I can't really describe it better without going into plot details. But there you go.

I gotta say, this sounds like it could be pretty interesting.

Plot helpers? They could be easily turned off. I did it, and this gave me way more immersion. Besides, quests are quite specific and i usually haven't any problems finding someone i need.

And yes, some life imitation like npc's walking about, pretending to do something would be sweet.

I think that's such a waste of resources. I suppose if you're attentive and pay attention to the world around you, yeah, that sounds awesome. But I most certainly don't; I'm too busy playing the game. So I really think it's better that the game doesn't invest so strongly into fake NPC behaviours.

Well, I think there's a happy medium. create some stock animations and use them many times. Like a guy snoozing, or shelling peas, sharpening a blade, whatever. Something where it looks like they have a life, but don't have to be doing a bunch of complicated running around. I would particularly like to see the companions engaged in activity wherever they gather. And they damn well better talk to be when I speak to them. Next time I get a companion who says 'Ugh' or some equivalent of 'now's not a good time' I swear I'm going to kill them. ;) ( I only sort of mean the winky face. I may not kill them, but I'll totally smack them upside the head)

Plot helpers?

I can't be the only one that thought of Al from Quantum Leap.

I understand the OP was just referring to the passage of time in Fable 2 and wondering how it will compare to the one in DA2... but the mere implied comparison between the two games made me cringe.
The Fable games are like amusing comic strips.
Bioware RPGs are like epic, deep fantasy/sci-fi sagas (think Tolkien/Star Wars).
The day my Shepard will persuade people to join him in his crusade by farting in public, or my Hawke will wander around a village of boring pod people with no personality whatsoever who think I'm awesome if I trim my beard in a certain way is the day I will stop playing video games.
