Some good tips, Arhka. I'd been slowly coming to the realization that I needed to bounce the grenade off a wall and not aim directly for the target. I feel like I'm playing a game of pool.
Another thing you can do with flashbang is to use it pre-emptively. for example, in grunts recruitment:

(i just printscreened one of crucial's videos...)
because you know ( having played through multiple times) that two blue suns are going to come running around the corner, throwing a flash grenade before they appear will overload their weapons before they even get to fire at you.
there are so many useful things you can do with flash grenade. maybe I should start a topic demonstrating its merits...

There's some great tips in here concerning flashbang. I could never get how to use it down with my engineer, thus I switched to neural shock. I never thought to use it before vs. during, like your example there.
Would you say flashbang is better for certain classes as a bonus power? Or is it pretty decent all around? I find that alot of soldiers go with it - my husband did on his soldier playthrough.

I'm sorry, this title belongs to Richard L. Jenkins, or Conrad Verner. Ashley was kickass as a Soldier. Just didn't like her attitude.(especially at Horizon)
Anyway, I find flashbang great for any class, but is lacking for the Adept and Vanguard classes as they need more damage, not CC. Vanguard charge sort of nullifies the advancing perks of Flashbag as they basically teleport to enemies, and Adepts...they need damage.

It's very good, but it's less useful for classes that already have high power usage. adepts, for example, get less benefit because they can't use it as often (because their class powers take precedent). Also, they already have a host of crowd control powers already. I would say its at its best with Soldiers and Infiltrators.kaimanaMM wrote...

which is not to say its bad with the other classes, but it really shines for a soldier which only has AR as its single other power (and that has what, a 3s cooldown?).
EDIT: damnit Arkha, stop stealing my thunder!

I'm getting a real sense that I'm not going to go the Revenant route. As always happens when I played an Infiltrator, my inner sniper shines through during Garrus's recruitment. Garrus + Zaeed + Me make for the Eclipse's worst nightmare as they try to make it over the bridge. Mordin's Incineration Blast is always the cherry on top.
Also, not in love with the Vindicator. The reason I never enjoyed the Soldier in ME1, the reason I suck hardcore at most combat games, is that I suck horribly with the assault rifle and never actually enjoy it all that much to bother to learn. I mean, I sucked at the Flashbang Grenade, but I was willing to stick it out until I figured it out. Forcing me to use the shotgun squadmates has made me learn how to best use them. But the assault rifle isn't bringing me that same determination because I kick so much more ass with the sniper rifle.
Horizon is next, though. Will probably change my tune. Still, any soldiers out there that actually liked the Avenger more than the Vindicator? I guess 'cause the Avenger reminds me of the Tempest with its large clip count...

That said, I understand your "inner sniper", as I think I have one as well. I think it's starting to show when I continually pick it on classes like the Vanguard and Adept. I can respect your decision to choose the Widow or Claymore over the Revenant more than choosing the Avenger over the Vindicator.
It's all you though. Maybe I'm just too infatuated with the Vindicator. I used it all the time on my Sentinel.

The revenant is brilliant if you fire it in bursts with incendary ammo.

In other news, the Soldier might be the easiest Insanity run I've ever done.
Also, I had thought Kasumi on Horizon would be the way to go, but I forgot about doing her loyalty mission beforehand, so her mighty Flashbang Grenade wasn't available to me. Still, she kept herself alive well enough. Shadow Strike is the lifesaver.

It really is a matter of personal preference if you ask me, which is determined by what kind of player you are. A sniper sucker, like me, would pick the Widow without a second thought, a player who appreciates close-range combat more would definitely pick the Claymore, or if they are into heavy and quick action, the Revenant. Point is, I don't think there is a right or wrong choice for a Soldier when it comes to your bonus gun from the Collector vessel.Arhka wrote...
So, what are you picking for bonus weapon? Say Claymore please.

It would be sort of funny of Soldiers could also choose Submachine Gun training. Adrenaline Rush Tempest would be sort of interesting though.
To be honest, I really don't get why Soldiers - the supposed weapon specialists of the game - are the only classes that are never allowed to take them, when everyone else can take snipers and shotties etc with gay abandon.
The Locust is way better than any heavy pistol and the Tempest would have been a fantastic compliment to the Vindicator.

Nothing now. I'd throw my console over the balcony, but that particular damage isn't covered under warranty. <_<Arhka wrote...

It says something when you call up XBox support and say "I've got the Red Ring of Death" and they don't even pause for a second as they set you up for a repair.Arhka wrote...

I was going to say my Soldier run was running incredibly easily. The Horizon mission is always my benchmark on how I'm doing, and it was the fastest run of that battle yet. I started with the Avenger and then restarted to try the Vindicator so I could get a good gauge of their differences. So I stuck with the Vindicator, but it does reinforce why I never did well with the assault rifles with the extremely brief but frequent burst shots.
It was also very much a secondary... actually, almost tertiary weapon of choice. The sniper has my soul. If I didn't take the enemy down on a single headshot, I'd switch to the pistol for that last bit of health on the enemy. The Vindicator came out whenever the enemies were getting in close, but that didn't happen very often. Usually was a husk and we'd just get into a boxing match. Kestrel Armor for the win again.
Anyway, there's going to be this lengthy gap as I wait for my stupid console to be fixed. I have another XBox 360 around here, but my friend is adamant that I'll only ruin that one, too. I'd start pouting about not having the PC version, but I know deep down in my heart that ME2 would have just killed the video card for that, too. I hate long gaps in my gameplay. I'll probably put the Soldier run on hold and go for Sentinel.

Luckily... you will get that thing back in two weeks. While you wait read a classic or something.

Oooh, Sentinel. But don't expect to back in business soon. I've been waiting 3 weeks for mine ever since I shipped it off when Garrus decided to be too epic.

I used the Avenger instead of the Vindicator in my Widow Soldier when I took her through. It's mostly an ammo issue more than anything else. Since the Vindicator provides very little ammo, unless you are precise with every burst, you're going to waste a lot of ammo. I don't consider myself a bad shot by any means (I wouldn't consider myself the world's worst Modern Warfare 2 player), and even by my standards, the Vindicator has little ammo. I do remember running into some instances where I ran low on Avenger ammo, but I'm almost certain I wasn't doing the smart thing and change guns according to the situation (the biotic bubble portion of the Suicide Mission comes to mind, when I was dumb and freaked out when a bunch of Husks and Abominations were running at me; I ran around like a chicken with its head cut off hip-firing the Avenger rather than being smart and switching to a shotgun).
I found the Soldier on Insanity to be really, really easy and a smooth ride (especially since I rarely had to access the Power Wheel). Granted, I still died in some parts a few times, but they were due to obvious mistakes that I made like accidentally jumping over the cover I'd like to use instead of actually doing so. AR into a Widow headshot was one of the more satisfying things I've done on ME2.
