Well, David said very similar things before DAO's romance options were revealed, so I wouldn't draw too many conclusions.

They did capture Rome and defeated the Romans around 400 BC. Have you heard of the Battle of the Allia? <_<
Admittedly, no I haven´t. I don´t know much about early Roman history.
But now that you mention it, yes, I remember that they scared the romans a lot, and revenge for earlier defeats was one of the reasons for Caesar´s war in Gallia.
Well, at least in Rome - Total War they didn´t in a single warB). I defeated them with Romans, British, Germans and EgyptiansB)
That battle was just an example among many. The Celts were not to be trifled with. Julius Caesar was very lucky to survive and get Vercingetorix to surrender. It wasn't a one sided fight. The Romans were organized but outnumbered and they couldn't have made it if the Gauls had been working together.
I don't mean to be obnoxious but I would advise refraining from making disparaging comments on the Celts if you're not that familiar with their history or Roman history.

I´m not sure if it´s true, but I once heard that in the first battle between Caesar and the Gauls many thousand Gauls were killed, while the Romans lost only about 115 men.

And of course there is the possibility that people who are brother and sister fall in love without knowing they´re related. (If they didn´t grow up together, of course. In case of adoptions, for example.)

And, since we already know that Hawke is not a character of our design (which is reinforced in this context by the "can't choose to be an elf" bit), I would not be surprised if s/he comes to us as straight. Hawke is not our character, s/he's Bioware's. We just get to use him/her as a puppet, and not change deep parts of his/her character.
I hope that the romances can be all-inclusive in some way, but given that nothing I've hoped for is showing so far to be a part of DA2, I'm not holding my breath.
You argument is based on an unsound premise.
EA owned Bioware when Origins came out.
So those corporate masters aren't new at all.
I still don't get how limiting the character to one race means we can't make it our own but i digress that's a debate for another thread.
Anyway, I've seen no proof at all that says EA would force bioware to cut s/s content. They didn't stop it in Origins, they haven't stopped it in 3 series of Sims games, why would they stop it now?

But is providing same-sex romance options really including a lot more content? My impression was that this is why Leliana and Zevran had been made bi rather than gay -- so that they were still 'accessible' as romance options to the greater gaming population. That way, you weren't including a great deal of content that only a few people were going to access -- other than a few pronoun changes in dialogue.
Except that we didn't change more than just "a few pronouns". The same-sex romance paths for both Leliana and Zevran did, in fact, have dialogue that was unique to them. More importantly it requires more than a trivial amount of work to accomodate the option in the romance cutscenes-- and this at a time when we were cutting many other things because of the limited amount of cinematics time we had available.
It's very easy to look at such things in isolation and say "well it couldn't take that long to do!" except that when you have the massive number of things we need to include in an RPG, from the large to the small, it always adds up to more than we can possibly include. So where do you cut? We didn't cut the same-sex romances because we thought they were worth including and added value. Yet even then there were some comments on these forums about Zevran (for example) -- that he was either "too gay", "the wrong kind of gay" or that the fact that Alistair wasn't also included as an option was discriminatory... at which point you start to wonder why you bothered. I'm glad that there were a great many people who expressed that they did value having these options, because I'm afraid that if one's stance is "all or nothing" on something like this the answer nine times out of ten is thus "nothing".Secondly, I don't think it's fair to say that only gay players are going to use these options -- like we've seen in this thread, a lot of straight people are going to go "eww eww get the gay away from me" but others are slightly more open-minded, and might be interested for roleplay purposes.
I did not say that. I said that a minority of players want the option-- and that for many player's it's not an option they want, so its existence as an option-- to them-- has no value. The fact that it has value to that minority of players isn't lost on us, of course, but all I said was that we need to balance accordingly.WilliamShatner wrote...
I guess that means "No" then.
And this is why I shouldn't be discussing this, I suppose. I've already said we can't talk about what's in the game, and I'm not trying to imply the existence of any romances or the lack thereof. I'm only talking about the assumptions that people seem to be making about why they're included/not included-- but perhaps I should just leave it at that. As I said before, we'll be revealing more in time. At that point I'm certain there will be plenty more opinions to be expressed at length.
If content was cut out to make room for sex with zevran, this makes me sad and wish for a dragon age directors cut.

If “Fight like a Spartan" is an indication of any kind, I would guess that hetero/homosexuality will be an option in DA II. In many Eastern, and Greco/Roman civilization same sex relationship exists. Alexander, of Ancient Greece is a very good example here (Herodotus, Plato, Xenophon, Athenaeus flirt with such experiences as well). He was a homosexual. That said, I commend Bioware's open-mindedness to include such content into a game in the first place.
I think you need to applaud the company for bringing such content into a game rather than the opposite.
I do hope it is available for people who desire it.
EDIT:
If the "Sims" is considered (which I have never played) then that is something, indeed, but strictly remaining on true RPG here, Bioware is an exception.

Origins was already completed by the time EA acquired them. Then, suddenly, after pretty much saying otherwise for years, suddenly BioWare was interested in porting DA over to consoles. For some reason. And DAO got delayed for two quarters, for I'm sure was a completely unrelated reason.
And then ME2 comes out, which had a good portion, if not most, of its development under EA, and there was a distinct lack of s/s material, apart from, from what I understand, molesting someone who's basically your secretary.
Of course, TOR not having same-sex won't be the fault of BioWare or EA. I don't know which would be worse--EA doing its best to pretend gay people don't exist, or Lucasarts just outright saying that they don't.

Zevran's romance was great. I really enjoyed both the male and female versions.
I think a lot of the complaints about Zevran's romance were one of the best parts was not in the game because of a bug (his love dialog at the gates), and that his romance actually completes later in the game, and many people can miss the conclusion and think it ends earlier than it does.

I would say the Ancient Egyptian did. But that is beside the point here. I am certain Bioware, if romance is included or is an option in DA II, will present it tastefully, but sexiness should definitely be the focus.

1: EA bought out Bioware in 2007. 2 full years before Origins came out. That is more than enough time for them to demand Bioware cut out anything they wished.
2: ME1 was developed entirely outside of EA's influence (it came out a month after the buy out) and contained 1 lesbian romance which is only that in the most technical sense. The Kaiden and Ashley romances were cut out long before EA had anything to do with Bioware.
3: EA has been named one of the "Best Places to Work" for GLBT equality by the HRC for at least 3 years in a row (the 2007 list isn't available anymore) which means they scored a 100% on the HRC's Corporate Equality Index the entire time they've owned Bioware .
If they were issuing demands to cut gay content I'm sure someone would have noticed by now and would have made it public.
So I will say it again, your accusations are groundless and based on nothing but extremely faulty circumstantial evidence.
I know everybody loves to blame everything on EA because they're the big evil corporation, but until you get some actual evidence you just sound like you're throwing around conspiracy theories.

There are game decisions that I think EA has a hand in, such as scaling back the dialogue to reduce costs (just a supposition--no evidence there), but really don't think this is one of them. Blame where it's due, credit where it's due, I've never heard that EA had anything resembling homophobic policies. A tendency to take companies that produce complex games and make the products mind-numbingly simple, yes. Demands that there be no gayness, no.Jimmy Fury wrote...

There wasn't much left of the Western Roman Empire by the 400's CE - the real power had moved East to Constantinople and West Rome was left to fend for itself on dwindling resources, progressively weakened boarders, an undermanned military, and more. The Gauls were a constant nuisance to Rome, but not a notable threat between about 100 BCE and 300 CE.
Ultimately, Rome actually defeated itself with its never ending need to expand and inability to maintain its own infrastructure.
