You have to understand that Hawke (most likely, I could be wrong) is supposed to be a manly character. Now it may be true that he would still be a man should he choose to become homosexual, but you have to understand the desire to be manly stems from the urge to appear manly/attractive to females, a stupid practice that us heterosexuals are involved in, I know, but usually homosexuals do not feel they need to be something they are not (at least in the way of being manly). I could be wrong, but I think a pre-conceived manly character would be heterosexual.
I have yet to meet a homosexual man that fits this idea.
I guess my homosexual housemate has to be told that he is "doing it all wrong" then, since he has the physique of a tractor and sounds like the Old Spice dude.
I'm willing to bet that it will be an option and the confrontational tone of the OP, even before any information about this aspect of the game has been leaked, is kind of uncool. But I understand why it would be a concern, seeing that ME2 didn't offer a gay/lesbian option at all (unless you romanced Liara), but keep in mind that the devs have repeatedly stated that this will not be like ME2.

The OP's tone was a more confrontational than it needed to be, but I definately understand where he's coming from. As a gay man who plays video games, it becomes extremely apparent very quickly that, in the eyes of many gamers (though certainly not all), lesbian=awesome and gay=bad. This is probably because the main demographic is straight males, but it's very frustrating, especially when the majority of the gay characters that crop up in the media have a tendency to reinforce false stereotypes. From a marketing standpoint, I understand why they push the he-Hawke image; it sells games and I would do the exact same thing if I was in their position. I do wish they would show some variety, such as a female Hawke or Hawke as a mage in an ever-shifting state, reflecting the choice that the player has. Who knows, maybe they will do this in the trailers. It seems that with Dragon Age, the marketing is often quite different from the actual substance of the game (i.e. Marilyn Manson, male warrior Hawke, the Sacred Ashes Trailer, etc....).

plus it makes you look like an **** to everyone else, including people who agree with whatever point your trying to make(as a general rule of course)
i personally dont care. its one of those "dont want gay romance in your playthrough? dont romance the gay guy" type things lol. i dont see why its a problem, the only problem i had was in DAO, the zevran trying to get into my pants in the middle of every convo thing was annoying. but just as myself, my character was comfortable with his sexuality, joked around with zev, just didnt bone him. lol
but seriously, the way you asked this, and DEMANDED it from the devs, really doesnt help your case. plus you made david sad!

Agreed. I couldn't care less if the option is or isn't there either. I never did a gay romance with Sky in Jade Empire, so I don't have to do one in DA or DA2 either. And I don't care that the option was there. It was something I would have to actively search for in order to see it. So, if someone doesn't like it if BioWare has gay romances in their games, they don't have to buy them. Similarly, if those of you who do want that option don't like it if BioWare decides not to add in a feature that will only appeal to such a minority of people in their game, then you too can protest by not buying it. Don't go around DEMANDING a game developer to make a game to YOUR specifications. They'll make their games the way they want them to be, and then we will decide if we like those features enough to buy their games. Now, you can give your opinion politely on what you'd like to see in their games, but to DEMAND certain things or answers from the devs isn't going to win you any points.

I sympathize with the plight of you and your brethren, but if Bioware went down the route of advertising homosexual romance options, every "God-fearing" soccer mom with an internet connection would be organizing a rally outside Bioware headquarters. The reality is: game trailers are catered to the largest demographic. This means straight males who love boobs. This excludes a lot of minority groups, like gays/lesbians, straight females and straight men who don't like boobs (small but thriving community). This will not change anytime soon, and as you rightfully recognized yourself, the marketing team is there to sell games, political correctness is not an important consideration.
The most that we can hope for is that they cater for us in-game, and I am really excited about how the homosexual romances will play out. I think Zevran was a really unique character, but what I am hoping for is a true gay/lesbian, characters that will repudiate members of the opposite sex, namely because a lot of times homosexuality is confused with simply having a lax attitude about the gender of your sexual partner (i.e. i wil smex everybody). No offence to bisexuals though. I'm tired, hope I am making sense.
In summary: I need a gay qunari voiced by Neil Patrick Harris in my life.

No, it is not proper forum etiquette to make demands or threads or ultimatums. They will go no where very, very fast. Further, same-sex romances are not being discussed yet -- let alone romances of any kind. Devs will not be sharing information about the game until such information is ready to be released.
During DAO's development cycle, they confirmed same-sex romances being in the game nearly three months prior to DAO hitting the shelves. (I remember, it was my question.) So, yes, I do suspect that they will again speak openly about such optional romance conent when the time comes. And no, like DAO thankfully, I do not think it will be any big secret to neglect discussing just to lure in more heteronormative brogamers.

damn if bioware actually got NPH a voiced role in this it would make my century.
also on the topic of romances ... its not really important its a narrative device that may be usefull to supply a more complex motivation for the main charictor.
what i would really like to see is cross party romacefor instance imagine if alistair had cracked onto leliana or if you take the idea further leiliana recipricates alistairs advances (assuming the warden didnt make a move first) and that would have impacted later in the game like alistair refusing to marry anoran on those grounds... anyway my point is that a great onus is on how the player interacts with the party member but the party members interactions with each other was only given cursory attention (see party banter) and party banter was some of the most engaging dialouge in the game also i remember KOTOR mission and zalbaar (at least in the begiing) did this well.

Yup. Marketing is what it is, and to be honest, that doesn't bother me much. David Gaider even wrote a gay couple into one of his novels for Dragon Age, so that tells me that just because they push one image to seel games, it doesn't mean they don't care about that group of people. I think that that may have been what the OP overlooked. But hey, here's to years and years of Bioware's fantastic romances, whatever the gender.

Wow.
So it's "tell us right now that it's in or it's clearly not and you're a bunch of bastards"?
Well, alrighty then. Since we're not talking about many features yet, romances of any sort included, I guess bastards it is. Sorry to disappoint you.
Not really the intent I had here. Sorry if it sounded confrontational. I don't expect any kind of special treatment or advance information. I just meant that I'd rather not hear anything at all rather than some boilerplate. And, as I said, I understand the realities of the situation. I don't think that anyone involved here is a bastard. EA and Bioware are entitled to make a profit and to design their products as they see fit. There are a ton of ways you could design the game to actually justify heterosexual-only couplings--having a child during that 10 year period who figures prominantly into the story is an obvious way to add to the narrative without snubbing anyone.
However, for the sake of argument, let's assume for now that romances--if they are included, mind you, and it seems likely they will be, based on Bioware's recent history--will be optional.
The problem as I see it--and as evidenced by some of the corporate comments surrounding this same situation in the ME franchise--is that by including romances at all, the issu of sexuality is raised and should be discussed. The truth of the matter is that I'm not a huge fan of video game romances in which player choice is involved (versus the kind of romance that might be present in, say, a Final Fantasy); I feel that, even at the form's very best, the player input required--usually dialogue trees--just highlights the artificiality of the relationship. However, it's galling when you aren't given the same opportunities as other players. I didn't particularly want to romance anyone in ME, and it was actually pretty easy to avoid the issue. In ME2, on the other hand, my Shepherd was practically throwing herself at some of her companions, and it was really hard for me to not say to myself, "If I was playing as a male I wouldn't have any of these options (except for the sexual harassment-tastic Kelly)."
I really do hope that Dragon Age continues to be a high-point for gays in video games. However, I don't want to be one of those who champions something as a given only to be betrayed in the end. I'd rather sheepishly apologize later for--unintentionally--inflammatory comments than come on after the game is out and say "I was sure they wouldn't forget us in this game." I don't know what DA2 will be like, and I do hope that I'm wrong, but yelling at me to wait until I hear more won't change the truth of what I said if I happen to be right.

Yeah... no. Bad form dude. bad form.
Gaider was very specific about not pooping on his desk.
I'm all for introducing Mike Hawke to a nice ruggedly handsome soldier with some sexy scars but there's a nice way to bring it up and a jerky way to bring it up.
The nice way would have been to search the forum, see that there have been 2 topics already, read both, see that Gaider said more info will be out when they get around to putting it out, then go voice your concerns in the Gay Wardens group or voice your desires on the current Romances thread which is about romances in general.
Instead, you called Gaider, you know... the guy who sounded more than happy to keep us in the loop before, a bastard.
(metaphorically speaking, he took it as such which is enough.)
On the bright side... NPH Qunari ftw!
Heck NPH ANYTHING! (he'd make a mighty fine bard you know... unless of course he uses his singing voice for evil again... actually that could still be fun... )
