Dude. Homosexuality was in DA1. It was in ME1 and ME2 with Liara. Please don't make threads just to complain about how hard it is for your sexuality, becuse let me tell you, it does the exact opposite of making people feel like homosexuality is worth it.

No, no, no.  There is no lesbianism in ME1 or ME2.  Asari are asexual.  CHUD said this was so, and thus onto us, the fanbase,  it is so.  :P

CHUD doesn't realize what asexual means apparently.

Thing is some aren't asking for it. Some people are demanding it (at least by the tone of some of the previous posts). I'm all for "representation of minorities", but I find it to be an issue when some people demand this representation. The more someone wants to be represented or demand it the less I want to see it represented. Not even the straight people got any right to demand anything from BioWare.
Just like the straight got their over-zealous "no gay in MY game!" the homosexual got their own over-zealous types, its both types i despise.

I see what you're saying. Some people think being calm and rational is the best way to get what they want. Some people think being in-your-face and demanding is the best way to get what they want. I doubt anyone is going to change anyone's mind on this forum.

Or of the story writers :)

True, but there's no harm in keeping them up to speed on things we'd like to see. These forums would be pretty damn empty if people didn't do that.

I say Bioware axe it. Hell, they didn't get too many thanks for Zev in DA:O. Mostly complaints here in the forums about how Zev was too much of a twink or that he reinforced negative stereotypes of gays or somesuch. Plus, throw in the whining about Alastair not being gay instead.
If Bioware did have a gay character in DA 2 they should make him the hairiest bear this side of the Fade. Image IPB Image IPB

I get what you're saying, but some empathy might not be out of order. Consider the matter of privilege-- a straight person sees romances they like and can identify with in the media all the time. It's ubiquitous and perhaps even taken a little for granted. Having a romance in a video game might be an appreciated extra, but it goes without question that if there is a romance it'll be something targeted at them. A gay person is not so fortunate, and so maybe could be cut some slack for getting a bit upset at the response of "what's your problem?" when they ask if they could maybe be represented as well.

To demand it and be overzealous, or suggest that they have the right to be represented... well, you are perhaps right that this goes too far. All I'm suggesting is that it's easy to say it's not an issue when it's not even remotely an issue for you. I think in an ideal world we'd all like to have something in the game that every player could call their own.

As one of my favorite quote goes:

I get sick of listening to straight people complain about, "Well, hey,
we don't have a heterosexual-pride day, why do you need a gay-pride
day?"  I remember when I was a kid I'd always ask my mom:  "Why don't we
have a Kid's Day?  We have a Mother's Day and a Father's Day, but why
don't we have a Kid's Day?"  My mom would always say, "Every day is
Kid's Day."  To all those heterosexuals that **** about gay pride, I
say the same thing:  Every day is heterosexual-pride day!  Can't you
people enjoy your banquet and not ****** on those of us enjoying our
crumbs over here in the corner?  ~Rob Nash

Substitute 'pride day' for 'gay romances' and you pretty much got the flavor of my disgust against those actively against  gay romances.  Sure it's a little melodramatic but then again it's not like we are arguing against resonable people so having a little fun in the process isn't unwarranted.  Hetereo-romances in games are a Big Gulp that runneth over while gay romances barely get half a thimble in comparison.  And the truth is Bioware is pretty much the entire contents of that thimble so for that I am grateful.  Please continue to provide and expand if at all possible.  I'm even rooting for some more M/M  choices even though they are my least played option after F/F and M/F.  Thanks for engaging in this discussion David.

So, instead of arguing for gay romances maybe we should be arguing against heterosexual romances. My default character is a lesbian anyway, so it doesn't hurt me.

Speaking of rights, one should know that authors have rights too. Not that I am insinuating anything, but if the writing team on Bioware was a Bible brigade, AND still good authors, anyone DEMANDING gay romances would be banging their heads against veridium ore.

I just would like to say that, it is essential that one considers the Authors's opinions and plot necessities affecting the world as well, not just public demand.

Me neither. :)
One can only hope that we won't get some sleazy elf again (because, as we all know, elves don't count :P)
I'm all hoping for a qunari of some kind, as unlikely as it is.
I mean, look at this.

No. My LGBT feminist positive and ethnically inclusive DA 2 romance should take precedence over mere plot. Image IPBImage IPB

Also, the false dichotomy between dwarves and nugs should not be included in the next Bioware release.

My trolls/irony senses are very poor, so I'm going to take this to mean something absolutely serious (if you're not, feel free to mock me):

"People descriminate against black people--no white people in the game!"

Does that make any sense to you?

Besides that arguing "against" hetero romances is just as bad as arguing against gay ones. There should be no "against"--there should be "for" only...if it can't happen, I've never seen the devs say they're "against" the romances, they just say the reasons why they can't be "for".

It was meant as irony; we see a lot of "why would anyone want gay romance in a game?" comments and I thought I'd toss it up a bit. After twenty six pages it is difficult to get any new thoughts in here, really. You could really whittle the entire thread down into "Being inclusive and open minded is a good thing" and sit back to see who'd argue. (no doubt someone would)

:pinched::blush:

I'm terrible at reading word-only cues--but I am a master of the human body language I tell you! Probably the only thing that would get me to understand everyone's intention is if they all were elcor.

I apologize! :D

No need to apologize, intent can be hard to read through print and usually online it is a good bet the speaker is just being a nob.  Now if you'd started by calling me names and threatening to get me banned, run over my cat, and punch my little sister in the nose - then I might have got upset. (though my little sister punches back)

I thanked them. I was never a big Zev fan but I was grateful for the inclusion.
Perhaps it should be noted though that my dislike for Zev had nothing to do with his being an elf, a twink, an assassin, or anyone's idea of a stereotype. I never thought he was a gay stereotype anyway, a swarthy spanish stereotype maybe... Anyway, my dislike was purely technical, his skin looked like leather. Reminded me way too much of those people who use tanning beds on a daily basis to the point where they look like jerky by time they're 30. I live in south florida. they're eeeeeeverywhere :pinched:

And I wouldn't mind the hairiest bear this side of the fade either...
or a cub or an otter or whatever...  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/whistling.png[/smilie]

Hairy men have rights too.

They won´t do it, though. It will probably have not a single hairy man in the entire universe, just like it was in DAO.  Always made me wonder how the Wardens take all the time for shaving:innocent:

Like I posted earlier, I wouldn't even have bought DA:O if it wasn't for some internet article that was about controversy (if you can call it that) surrounding the Zevran sex scene. So I thanked Bioware with my wallet, and bought the game. I continued to thank them by purchasing all the DLC, DA:A, and even the hardcover "walkthrough" book from Prima (I'm sure they get royalties) that has less information than the Dragon Age wiki.

Personally I was not interested in Romancing Zevran, but it was nice to have bisexual companions that actually talk about it. Even if it was only 5 minutes of script compared to the entire game.

Internet gaming forums usually consist of 80 to 90 percent complaining and/or brainstorming because of some complaint. It's been like this on every game forum I've ever visited; it's even worse in MMO's where the players interact with each other in the game let alone just a forum. I do not think any of the DA Community Representatives should take most of the comments here personally; it's just a reflection of people being able to speak uncivilly behind an avatar picture and a fake name. But usually most of the comments, even the worst of the complaints, are because someone wants the product to be something they are interested in and to succeed.

I think most of us here recognize that the DA team has been the most supportive of LGBT options in gaming. If we lose the DA team, there really isn't much left out there for LGBT players. What will we have really? Hope for a Final Fantasy scene where the main character cross-dresses again for 20 seconds? No thanks.

So, there is a lot at stake in keeping this issue alive and important. I'm sure Bioware got quite a few sales and fans out of their decisions to be more inclusive. It may be a responsibility and a burden to continue the trend, but they would be rewarded for it with our loyalty and support.

At the same time, it's easy enough for the straight players to avoid accidentally getting into gay relationships just by refusing the advances. I'm pretty sure a fair number of straight players used the F/F option just for the thrill of lesbian scenes I guess.

Irony dictates that not only will the gay option be very burly and hairy, but that he will also be a mage of the shapeshifter specialization and actually turn into a bear.

See, Games4ever completely demonstrates my point about online forum behavior. As surely he'd never get away with this type of behavior by saying it directly to someone's face.
