I just bought into EA today. I think the company has a bright future. It has shown the ability to listen to fans and fundamentally change course based on feedback (the Draconian DRM reversal) and has adopted a positive attitude of allowing their studious, such as BioWare a substantial degree of independence.

On the game front, EA has a slew of popular franchises. Among the BioWare ones, I believe the up-coming Dragon Age release will prove to be a smash hit. Further out, The Old Republic, seems like the MMO to bet on...

Of course, I tend to do short-term investing (and have only started doing any investing at all very recently), so I will probably buy in and out of the company repeatedly over time, but I think it is a good investment in short, medium and long term.

So am I alone here, or is anybody else purchasing EA shares or call options?

Hm, I'm not sure why you want to discuss that here on BioWare's site. Although I don't plan on investing in EA, I'll take a look at EA's reports for curiosity's sake.

Because this is the Off Topic forum and it is related to BioWare, given that BioWare is owned by the EA. We see all sorts of discussions here in OT (well, or at least on the original OT board we did, the social site is new and I still usually hang out there), ranging from movies, through advice about personal matters, so why not discuss EA stock? Yeah, I am sure there are also more general EA boards, but I don't visit them...

EA's profit(or was it earnings?) per share seems to be declining in the past few years into a loss in 2008. Then again, the highest increase in expenses in 2008 seem to be contributed by research&development, but that does not excuse the declines in 07 and 06. The complete annual report for 2009 is not yet available, and I can't be bothered reading the quarterly reports or years prior to 2006..From a quick glance, excluding other factors, long-term investment does not sound very attractive.

EDIT: Nevermind that, apparently EA doesn't pay dividends at all.

That is indeed the case. EA had made many mistakes in the past and destroyed many valuable studios it had acquired, but I think they have turned the corner and changed the management culture, became more responsive to customer concerns, plus began investing in new games rather than relying purely on sequels. Plus, of course, EA has since acquired BioWare as a new unit. :)

Than again, as I said, I generally am a short term investor, so I am at least looking to a nice Dragon Age release share boost. I will probably cycle in and out of the company over time.

Try cashing into the cow that is Activision's MW2. They've got a slew of good games coming out with mainstreamers buying into it.

I never tend to stock on gaming companies, the dividends are too short for short-term share boost. And I usually need cash bad on short notice.

investing in EA is definitely not a bad idea the gaming industry as a whole has only one direction to go and that is upB)

Activision Blizzard is "eww" for investment, in my opinion. Good games though.
