Crisis averted...It looks like you can also customize the large .jpg of your character! Very cool.

Just to note: The DA Character Creator as well as The GIMP are both only the cost of your download and learning/play time with them.

And now we have a plethora of Pink Pyrates, no longer Irates, in this topic.

Yarrrgh, matey, ye look fetchin' in that outfit. Fetch me a drink won'cha?

[ducks down and slides across the floor in an attempt to avoid any flying tankards]

Damn! The chicken suit's zipper is stuck. And I know it's a fowl thing to say, but it looks like my goose is cooked, I'm a sitting duck. Well I guess that's what I get for being a turkey.

Where will the uploaded picture appear?

I think I've uploaded one, but can't seem to find it in my list of options when I go to choose a new picture.

Provided you follow exactly the steps listed in the link DNO provided, the new image choice will appear in a new selection box next to (right of) the default avatar selections (Profile -> Change Profile Photo).

Hmm I must be doing something wrong then.
I have the secondary box, but it's empty.

Apparently it can take up to an hour for the character/image to get posted to the site here. For me it only took a few minutes.

Also, for your avatar - Nice :)

Mine took the better part of 14 hours before they showed up.
The delay is very confusing... makes you doubt your ability to follow simple instructions.

A lot of people are saying, it is better to ask your friends to view your profile, as updating is done by priority of number of friends profile views to your profile.

Grats everybody! :) For me it showed up almost instantly in my profile, and then about 30 seconds later I saw it in the forums. I am very happy I have my Legacy avatar back. :P

Hellfire made me a couple avatar shots. Now all I gotta do is figure out how to load them in without using the DA Character Creator in my stable. And -- well, this is embarrassing -- can someone help me get this zipper unstuck? I think I accidentally caught a feather in it when I put it on last.

Here is the same how to change avatar in a more concise version (yet less detailed) worked for me.

Doesn't this one require the full version of dragon age?

Should we be wary of copyright issues regarding avatars? For instance, if I wanted to make myself an avatar of Lupus, the dog from Jet Force Gemini-- good or bad?

Glad I could help. =]
Someone asked me how to do this once, and I figured posting a blog about it and linking would be easier than explaining multiple times.

I am pretty sure they could have made it easier to upload/change to custom portraits on this forum....

The FAQ seems to suggest they explicitly didn't want us to create our own avatars, for whatever reasons:

Can I upload my own photos to use as my website avatar?
No, this is not permitted.

Just a heads up that we probably shouldn't overstep the boundaries and be careful what pictures we choose if we create our own avatars. I think it's pretty lame though, considering there's only a handful of official avatars to choose from. Why introduce avatars at all then when you can't express personality with them and they don't help to distinguish between posters?

So far, the unofficial "official" perspective (I just read up on this in the moderator forums this morning) is that, as long as you're using some discretion, it's okay-fine.

In other words, no nekkid pikshures, no blood/gore, no obviously heavy handed copyright viles (ie: if it's SW: KotoR, you'll prolly be okay, Mickey Mouse is a definite no-no, as would be a picture of, say, Han Solo (not game material, right?) Others, like the infamous Al Bundy, prolly okay.

Again, just don't shoot for the obscene, the grossout or invade high profile (and aggressive) copyright images and you should be okay. Please be mindful of that.

dunniteowl

(recognize that this could be a policy changing issue if not managed wisely -- I will seek to have permanently banned FOREVER anyone screwing this up.)

I've tried the instructions posted above and can't make them work. Would it be so hard  to just allow us to upload a 146x146 bit  .png (or whatever format) image like almost every other forum does? If the moderators didn't like it they could delete it. I'll just stick with the old one from NWN2. Maybe the signature will work.

Hi,

Good to hear personal avatars are OK. It does make finding your own posts a little easier. Posted Image

This is also a quick hello to everybody on the new forums. I hope they are as good as the old ones. Posted Image

Lance.

EDIT: Would it not be too pretentious (or incorrect) to add our awards (from the Vault) to our signatures?

Confirmation would be good to hear if we can do this ourselves.

Lance.
