So you don't recommend posting avatars depciting characters from non-bioware games? I figured that this was fair use, but if it's the rules, than I'll take Meta Ridley here down.dunniteowl wrote...
So far, the unofficial "official" perspective (I just read up on this in the moderator forums this morning) is that, as long as you're using some discretion, it's okay-fine.
In other words, no nekkid pikshures, no blood/gore, no obviously heavy handed copyright viles (ie: if it's SW: KotoR, you'll prolly be okay, Mickey Mouse is a definite no-no, as would be a picture of, say, Han Solo (not game material, right?) Others, like the infamous Al Bundy, prolly okay.
Again, just don't shoot for the obscene, the grossout or invade high profile (and aggressive) copyright images and you should be okay. Please be mindful of that.

(recognize that this could be a policy changing issue if not managed wisely -- I will seek to have permanently banned FOREVER anyone screwing this up.)

Seriously though, if it is an issue, I'll change back to the old avatar I used since Oct 17, 2001 on the old boards.

Nope, you're not reading me clearly. I didn't say that at all. What I did say, was, colloquially speaking, watch yourself and use some discretion. Han Solo from the movies? Huh uh. Lucas Arts is very aggressive. Guy Threepwood from Monkey Island -- I don't think so. You got an avatar of a zombie from Left 4 Dead? Mmm, maybe. Mickey Mouse, Pooh Bear (one of my favs) or Tigger? No way. Disney'll come and eat your children.
You got an avatar you wanna slap in there from say, Baldur's Gate: Shadows of Amn, you'll most likely be tutti okay. You wanna put in the Vault Dweller from Vault 13, go for it. You wanna an avatar from Fallout 3? You might wanna rethink that.
See how that works? It's not as important as the game itself as it is the ramifications of who you could potentially upset to the point of legally complaining. Lucas Arts = really aggressive. Disney = deadly aggressive. Bethesda = wouldn't look on it kindly. It's a matter of paying attention to what you're doing and not being overly zealous or wild without considering the ramifications.
More often than not, though, unless it's patently obscene (and that includes levels of grossness), pornographic, heavily litigated or otherwise in really, really bad taste, have fun and enjoy this new found power and expression of your persona online.
best regards,
dunniteowl

Also (and I'll note this in bobobo878's comments section too) When the directions say to log in, it is meant to log in at the bottom left corner of the character creator screen. I was logged in here and I kept getting an error: Profile Not Found, because the Character Creator application has to have you logged in, not the bioboards as a webpage, savvy? Took me 3 failed attempts before I even noticed the Log In button on the Character Creator. I'm just trying to get this dang zipper unstuck so I can really spread my wings and preen a bit. It's really stuffy in here.

how do you get that info into the sig line area at the bottom of your posts???
EDIT: *oh*
I still don't know.
Unless you just write it in manually in the "Signature" section in the Forum Settings?

Yes, I had not yet spotted the "forum settings" line in the full reply page.
Yes - a long time/never, or immediately - I wanted to change it, it wouldn't take, I thought I might have to delete the old one, it still doesn't take. oh well - I'll be the "blank" for now!!!
