Whew! I thought I was never going to make it out of that chicken suit in one piece!

Thanks first to (again) : Fester Pot and Starlight for describing and linking this in the NWN Forums.

Next Thanks to: bobobo878 for describing the process (though I would update a few bits for clarity of where to expect the pictures to show up and maybe a bit more on what/where to look in the Character Creator for the proper buttons and order...)

And last, though certainly not least a BIG THANKS goes out to Hellfire for making me this badass avatar that is just so fitting!

Thanks to crimsoncobra57 as well, for those of us who followed that guide.

And thanks to the people in this thread for teaching dirty rotten cheaters like me how to resolve their profile updating issues.

It seems to update quicker if you access your profile via the DA Character Creator. At least it did for me.

Funny the quirks of the internet.

I envy all of your spiffy new avatars, but I just can't make it work. In fact, I can't get to the first step, ie getting a PC portrait posted to Bioware Social Network. I've tried it logged in from the game, from the Character Creator and from the website with no joy. The logical way would seem to be from the Character Creator, since it actually has a button labelled "Upload Character", but it doesn't work.

Perhaps my install is borked, or my account is dorked, or maybe I'm just a dumb hedge wizard. I'm not too sad, since I've grown accustomed to my avatar over the years, but it bothers me when I can't get things to work like people say they should.

It took me a while to realize that the login button was off by itself over on the lower left corner of the screen. There's some other kind of login button on the right next to all the other buttons that apparently doesn't do anything except launch a browser.

Okay, I'll post something I messaged to someone who was having more trouble than I did in getting their avatar posted.

BEAR IN MIND: This presupposes that you followed the directions already linked and now you're having trouble. Your .png file should be allied with a premade character ALREADY and set to read only.

Okay, I had a LOT of trouble. So I tend to experiement when that happens. That's because the definition of stupid and insane is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results, right? Anyway, here's what I did:

1) I made sure my .png portrait was the one I really wanted.

2) I went into the Character Creator and left the folder My Documents /Bioware /Dragon Age /Pre Release Characters open, so I could Alt+Tab to check it.

3) As I had already made the character and attempted to Upload several times without success, I looked more closely at my final panel, where the Character Creator asks you to: Log In in the bottom left hand corner, Upload in the right middle edge, then I noticed there is a Online Profile (or maybe it's just Profile) Hmm.

4) I also noted that there is a Save Feature near the Log In feature.

5) So I Log In. Once Connected, I selected Profile. It brings me to a page I hadn't seen before and didn't know I had when checking my Profile online. It comes up and shows Dragon Age Characters loaded and all that. I had none after I don't recall how many attempts. So I see this and then go back to Character Creator. I Save my Character. I Alt+Tab back to my My Docs Pre Release Characters Folder and once again make sure my potrait image is the Avatar I expect to have.

6) Then I Upload my Character. BAM![

7) I check my Profile that came up from the Character Creator and now I have both of the Characters I saved each time I saved one. One looks like it should -- A DA Character, the other has my Owl Avatar. YAY!

8) Now if those show up, then go to your user profile and select: Change Profile Photo. When you do that, a previously unseen section will show up to the very right as it's own box and that will have the Characters you uploaded. Click on the image you want Edit Photo [/color]at the bottome of your choices panel (which really should say, Save Changes) and you should be good to go.

That's how I remember it.

hope this additional, not quite as well orgnaized as it could be, information proves useful to those of you having more than your average share of difficulties with this -- like I did.

(rather spiffy avatar if I do say so myself.)
*(who also curses the forums admins for screwing with my head by thinking I can insert different colors in my posts!)

Oh yeah! Finally! The problem I was having was I was denying permissions to the system to modify the file, which wasn't stopping it from getting overwritten. Flagging it as "read-only" worked fine!

Hmm. Looks like the animated GIF might need a bit more work, mind, but at least the picture's not all stretched and horrible now. ;)

I finally got it to work (more or less) with a NWN2 screenshot crop. Mr. Owl, let me know if it's too much skin and I'll change it back.

Could we get sticky for this thread so it doesn't get lost?

Yeah, that would be quite handy. I still mean to get a GIF that actually loops so I can draw undeserved attention to myself. Right now I have to keep refreshing the page all the time!

i have a question, i don't know if this has been anwered already or not though but i'll ask anyway. i download some custom hair from the nwn vault for nwn2. it's a .hak file. i was told they go into the "C:\\Program Files\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\hak" file, only that didn't exsist, so i just made one and put it in there. however when i go to create a new character the hair doesn't show up. did i put this in the right area or am i just missing something?

Yeah, this is the Wrong thread for that, but hey, we won't shoot ya.

Place all Hak files in the My Documents\\ Never Winter Nights 2\\ Haks folder. You should not be placing ANY custom content files in the My Programs\\ Atari\\ Never Winter Nights 2\\ directories unless specifically instructed to do so. NO HAK, OVERRIDE, MODULE, CAMPAIGN, UI or any other folder in the Installation Path (My Programs...) should be used for Community Created ANYTHING *(with a few possible exceptions, which will be detailed in their Vault offerings.)

However, the hak will only work on modules which use it. If you want to use it in, say, the OC, you need an override version.

Great that this has been stickied, by the way!

Oh, and Sieben -- no worries. There are no R-Rated parts showing anywhere, so go Au Natural if you've a mind -- as long as it's in a tasteful manner. You pass.

Any way for this poor girl (myself) that can't download that free software due to bad internet connection?

Don't know how to manage that one, Vaalyah. I am not sure, but I think using something like Free Download Manager or something similar, might allow you to download it over a few sessions, or if you get disconnected, it should come back and pick up where you left off in the process. Not too long ago, that was how I had to download just about everything. So I depended on download file managers for pretty much any file. My service was so bad when I was on copper lines that my old Hayes 14.4 modem could have done the job and done better than the phone lines would have allowed (my old Hayes could easily reach 21.6Kbps and my old phone lines never got higher than that.) I am now on wireless broadband and this is not so much an issue.

Another method I employed was to take my laptop to town (about 12Km away) and go to either the library or an internet cafe and grab what I needed while there, then transfer the files with a USB memory stick (also called a thumb drive.) So those are the suggestions I have. I don't know of any other way to get the Character Creator.
