I have just installed NWN2 on my Pc (win7) and the game runs fine except for one point, the mouse control is to fast for controlling ie when you move to the side of the screen i cant control it , it is to fast, ive been into options
and moved the pointers to the far left but its made very little difference

I'm running Nvidia Gforce GTX 470 on Win7 64bit and it wasnt working at first, I solved the problem by installing one game and fully updating it and then doing the same with the other 2 expansions, works fine now.

This thread has been very helpful. I installed NWN2 Platinum yesterday on my Windows 7 rig and everything ran fine except for the Toolset, which instantly crashed every time it was launched. After a bit of trial and error on my own, I checked these forums and decided to install DirectX9.0c. BAM! Problem solved. This was especially important to me; I bought the game primarily for the Toolset. Thanks so much!

My rig:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor 3.4 GHz
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

So, just so that it is crystal-clear for me, and for everyone else finding this thread.......

- A separate download of Direct X 9-0C is required (usually) to run the Toolset, but should not (never?) be required just to play the game.

- Same thing for .Net (an older version pre-W7).... for Toolset only, not simply to play the game.

Is that correct , or is it still a trial-and-error kind of operation ???

(EDIT -forgot to ask- ) Does using any files/mods/extras for use on a P-W (such as the Client Extension) change the above answers ?

This has probably already been discussed but I can't seem to find a topic on it.
SO I updated my Vista to Win 7, and used my NWN Diamond edition. After a whole bunch of errors and core rebuilds, I finally downloaded 1.69 patch. It lagged like crazy and would not work, and looking into the old forums, I changed to .68 as directed.
So that makes NWN 1 work just fine, but 2 and three, Hoards and Undertide and whatnot, they don't work. It says I need to update my module for compatability. Well, if I do, I get extreme lag that freezes and restarts NWM, or just exits.
I have tried placing NVM in Admin mode, as well as various Compatability modes such as SP3 and such by going through the game properties, but no such luck.
What should I do to fix this?
And I'm sorry but I'm horrible at technical jargon, you'll have to dumb it down for me D:

Um... Hate to dumb it down to much for you but you're also not so good at reading forums. This is a thread for installing NWN2, not NWN1 on Win7.

NW1 is working, but I'm saying 2 isn't. And this thread is for helping users with Win7, I'm assuming.
I'm saying NWN2 isn't working for me.

Actually apparently Diamond edition falls under NWN1, my bad.

Ok. So my new computer is here. I grabbed the NET framework 64 bit file off of the install disk. It won't let me install it. I assume I would have to uninstall the NET framework 4.0 that comes with Windows 7 in order to do this and that has me a little concerned. Is it a good idea to uninstall that?

Also, if some kind soul could post or PM me a link to the correct DirectX 9.0c downlaod that I need for a 64 bit system, I would be very grateful. Microsoft is being a little vague and tricky about which one I need.

Thanks guys!

Heh... Nevermind. Everything is working fine today. Yesterday, the game played but the toolset would not open. Now both work.

I installed Win7 (x64) on an other partition and kept my WinXP installation.
The NWN2 installation I did under WinXP works flawless under Win7 too. I didn't had to reinstall except I pointed my Win7 documents folder to same as in WinXP. ( I keep my game installations and documents folder on a different drive)

NWN2 needs DX9 fact tidbits for Win7
Download and install: DX9.0c.

For whatever reason, the Win7 sometimes needs to have the old DX9.0c in it to run the toolset. Some folks have gotten away with it, but occasionally, it crashes like you're talking about in your post.

DX9 is not a "downgrade" from DX10 or 11. They are not compatible with each other due to technology changes and can peacefully coexist on your system.
I tried installing DX 9 while having DX 11 installed toled me i already had a new version and didnt need it, so it wouldent install it

You can install it manually and force it, as long as you're operating as an administrator. You have to download the redistributable file, which should be linked in the opening post(s). When you download it, download and save it, then, once saved, run it. Don't run it via the web and definitely don't run it under Windows Update.

Once again, try:
Download to Hard Drive, save file to disk.
Run the file as a separate program.
Don't run it as an update, either through DX or Windows.
Others have successfully done this, so you can too. Don't give up.
Report back here with how you tried (if unsuccessful) and do your best to note:
System Specs, Steps taken and results.
Most of all: Stay Calm, we know how frustrating it can be, but ranting here won't really help you.

I recently bought a new computer and tried to reinstall Neverwinter Nights 2 on it. I keep getting the error message "the CD key you have entered is invalid." This is the CD key printed on the inside of the manual cover. How do I get my game installed?

Do you have the gold edition with the Mask of the Betrayer expansion?

I think that one printing of the manual reversed the Mask of the Betrayer expansion and core game keys. Try entering the MotB for the core game and the core game key into MotB expansion install.

And windows is just made by morons. Why the **** wont it let me search for DirectX. I can only find one note. I wanted to see what version i have, but this crap wont let me. (and im sure i got it. I installed and updated SC2)

You know, there's a Sticky Up Top here somewhere that talks about having technical issues, I believe. Win7 64 bit gets an honorable mention in that some installs require you to have DX9, which is NOT automatically installed with Vista or Win7. It is a separate program and it can be found by perusing some of the other Sticky Topics or by going to NWN2 Technical Support (Self Help) which is also linked in the other relevant sticky.

I'd be more up front helpful, but I'm using an older and slower computer and my internets aren't flowing through them pipes as good as Dubya implied they do.

Please carefully read the Sticky Topics and pick the one the looks like it might hold some answers for ya.

I think there is a Directx version 11. Does anyone know if that will work? I dont see a reason to get an older version

No reason other than the game requires Direct X 9.0c and both versions of Direct X can be installed at once? No, no reason at all.

ibervang: Please, PLEASE, I BEG YOU, RTFI. Or, instead, read the sticky topics on installation issues and read carefully. RTFI means: Read The Fine Instructions (of course Fine is the PG acceptable four letter word in that Acronym.)

Please?

I have windows 7 64 bit, and I also had issues installing nwn2. I followed the instructions from this thread for a successful instal and full patch:

http://social.biowar...8/index/3116296

To answer your question, no, Directx 11 does NOT work. You do have to dl the directx 9.0c redistributable, on top of the directx 11.

Actually, Centra28, your phrasing is misleading. You DO NOT, nor CANNOT install DX9.0c over DX10 or 11. There is no overwriting. These are all separate beasts. I do not believe that 10 will be overwritten by 11, though do not know this for a fact. However, it is absolutely a fact that DX9 and lower WILL NOT overwrite newer versions of DX (that would be either DX10 or 11) and this is unequivocally true.

I know I've said this in any thread about this, but once again, I will repeat:
DX9 is a completely separate install and will not corrupt, overwrite or downgrade any newer versions of DX. They do peacefully coexist on your harddrive. In many cases of Win7, installation is a simple task of installation and it works. However, Win7 64 bit and in some cases, minor hardware and firmware variations between manufacturers make it necessary to get and download the older version DX9.0c in order to run the game. More often than not, Win7 issues are either this or someone trying to use newer video drivers for their cards when those cards are not specifically listed as being addressed in those updates to the drivers.

With Win Vista the best fix is to revert to Windows XP or get Win7. Vista is more of a dog today than Win Me was back in the day. (I still have a laptop on Win Me that runs fine, but it's waaay older than some of you -- kidding. But it's like 9 years old or more.)

And in case you meant in addition to DX11 that would be true, though Win7 comes with DX11.
