Sorry for asking a question that's probably obvious for anyone who is not a ME newbie, but a search here in the forum and on the wiki didn't turn anything up.

I just started playing ME1 and after doing one clueless playthrough I now want to start making "real" characters who can be imported into ME2 someday. Now, I've read about replaying characters (to get to level 60) and unlocking bonus talents from other classes. What I don't know is, if I can select a bonus talent if I restart the game with an existing character.

I'd really like to know before starting my new character(s), because this obviously affects planning my skill point distribution. I can't really test this myself, because I only have a single character so far and so the only unlocked bonus talents are the ones she already has, so I'd be grateful if you ME-veterans could enlighten me.
Thanks! :)

No you can't, if you are playing on the pc, instead of the 360 it is possible to use the console to add a talent.

Here's link to the mass effect wiki for the information on how.

Many thanks for your quick response, Grey Ranger! :)

I am playing on the PC, so console commands would be an option. But as these characters-to-be are supposed to be carried over to ME2 and eventually ME3, I think it's best to avoid cheats and exploits that might mess up the profile. But thanks for the link nevertheless.

Adding bonus talents with the console does not seem to have any impact on your ability to bring your character to ME2. I did it with multiple characters, never had any problems. Since you can change your class when importing and everything gets reset, there's no reason why it should cause problems either.
