As we all know, Hawke will be fully voiced in Dragon Age 2.  Now while I have no problem with that, I do have an issue with there being only one voice for each gender.  I truly enjoyed Mass Effect because of the fact that unlike other RPG's I had played, the main character actually had a voice.  However, the one thing that upset me was that there was only one voice for my Shepard.  No disrespect to Mark Meer or Jennifer Hale as they both do a great job as Commander Shepard, but even talented voice actors don't always fit the character.  Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale both fit the default male and female Shepards, but when one can create a character to look however you want, two voices aren't enough for the thousands of faces that can be made.  If Dragon Age 2 is to have a fully-voiced main character I think that Bioware should take the next step.
In Dragon Age: Origins, we, the players, were given the option to choose a voice for our characters.  Although sauve, mystic, cocky, and such mainly referred to our character's battle cries and not our speaking voice, it was a very good start.  Bioware had the right idea regarding several things in the original game and they seem, to me at least, that they are trying to improve upon those ideas.  So if Bioware is up for improving the Dragon Age Experience, why not take that good start they had with the main character "voices" a few steps further?  I'm not recommending that Bioware make fifteen different voices for Hawke, but I am recommending that they at least make a few.  At the very least they could implement a voice editing program that would allow us to make a voice that better suits our Hawke.  That would probably be the most preferable and cheaper option.
Anyways, its just a thought that I've had and felt like sharing with you all.  Feel free to share with me what you all think of it.

If they had the technology, money, and time, I bet they would most certainly try.

The voice-editing program sounds like the only true solution to me. Paying three voice actors to voice every line Hawke can say is just...well financially it sounds stupid. Gamers may be attracted by that gimmick, but I know there will be people who pride one voice actor over the others, saying the others are crap, and there will be even a few who want more and more. And not once would anyone, actually, praise Bioware with charity that goes beyond buying the game or dlc for one thing (which ultimately means little incentive to risk finances and time on such a project). It would be an amazing fan-service but I think the best we could hope for is the Voice-editor. or bearded cheeks that don't appear like my guy is sucking on his thumb.

Multiple voices would take up ridiculous amounts of space, and they would have to sacrifice a lot of content. I think even with just the one voice now, the game will be noticeably shorter than DA:O.

Someone suggested in another thread a slider to change the tone of your voice, which I thought was a pretty good idea, but I'd prefer the game to have no voice over at all.

That's mainly the reason I brought up the voice-editing program.  I'm not sure what the going rate is in Canada, but from what I remember the average pay rate for American video game recording is anywhere from $120-200 per hour without any royalties.  Two or three extra voice actors each playing the main role for easily well over fifty hours of voice work would be very expensive.  The only real reason that I thought Bioware could maybe do some extra voice actors is because of the large amount of voice talent they're putting into "The Old Republic."  Unless they're hiring several amateur or non-union voice actors and paying them cheap, then I doubt an extra two or three voice actors would really make much difference.  Especially since Dragon Age: Origins was a game that actually sold more copies than Mass Effect 2, a game that had a very expensive cast.

So in the "My main concern about voice" topic Mike Laidlaw posted this:

We haven't announced our "Hawkes" yet, but rest assured that they all had to go through a fairly extensive audition, reading stuff from the game in multiple moods. Getting a main PC actor with enough range to cover the wide ranging situations they come across is a definite challenge, but really pays off when done right.

So far, I'm very happy with how both genders sound. Lots of range, good use of humor, and more than enough force when needed. If they weren't sounding good, we'd have replaced them already.

At first I thought "Hawkes" was referring to MaleHawke and FemaleHawke, but the way how worded it makes it sound like there's more than just two Hawkes.  Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I figured this may be relevant.

A slider to adjust depth? That's a really awesome idea, actually....

Yes, multiple, not same generic voice across all characters regardless of physical appearance.

It'd be great, but it'd be too expensive. Sooner or later (I'd say, later) someone will do it though.

You're reading way too far into it.  Your first thought was most likely correct.  Hiring more than one voice actor for male and female is prohibitively expensive in both time and money, and won't bring any more enjoyment to the game for the majority of players.  Multiple voices for each gender are not going to happen.  Audio tools to record your own lines for Hawke are also extremely unlikely.  Again, the cost to develop it relative to the amount of people who would enjoy it is simply too high.   I'd much rather they focus on making the game the best they possibly can rather than move assets towards developing audio tools that, quite honestly, a handful of people at best are going to use.

Yeah I get ya, but I couldn't ignore the possibility, especially with how vague the Devs can be sometimes. So far the only game that I know of that used a voice editor program was Tony Hawk Underground 2, but I cannot recall how good it was. I imagine that if it were to be done for Dragon Age 2 the technology would be much improved regardless.
