I just got my Collector Edition yesterday, installed the game, imported my Mage character from Creator and started playing. I finished the tutorial, and now I have to help/betray my friend Jowan (or what is his name), who is to be made Tranquil for being a Blood Mage.
I have to get to the repository through the basement, but whenever I try entering the basement (through doors in Apprentice Dorms floor), game get stuck at loading screen, and nothing happens for a really long time (about 30 minutes, then I lost my nerves and Ctrl-Alt-Delete'd my way from the game). In Task Manager the game is show as "Not Responding".
Does anyone know any solution?
Magi Tower Basement wont load

RAM - 4096MB RAM

Im playing patched version from the start, and I have downloaded all addons (except Stone Prisoner and Warden Keep, because my internet connection was terrible last night).

mmm... you need to update windows, Vista is on SP2 now and you might try setting your core affinity to the 2nd core only... I'm seeing a pattern in the hang-ups and slowdowns with the AMD X2s
Microsoft Update tell it to allow all the installations it wants to do and then when it comes up run "custom" and install all the available updates (high-priority, optional and any hardware ones)

Well Im not sure if my Vista is SP1 or SP2, because Im currently at school. But I will try setting core affinity and see if it helps after I get home.

alright, try updating in any case... there are often glitches fixed since the "optional" updates are pretty much mandatory for gamers

I updated to SP2, installed latest graphics drivers, installed almost all optional Windows Upadates (except lang. packs, powershell adn some Ultimate Extras), but still no luck.
I tried lowering game details to absolute minimum (and setting affinity to CPU1 again), but that didnt help either.

did you install the toolset? people are having a lot of game breaking issues if they did.

No I didnt. I was never good at creating game mods (mainly because I couldnt come up with some good idea), so I run only the Game with patch 1.01a and mods Stone Prisoner, Collector Edition, Lucky Stone, Embri's Many Pockets and Blood Dragon Armor.
I should note that other area transitions in Tower which I can access (Storeroom Caves and Senior Mage Quarters) are working normally and are loaded in matter of seconds

Well, it seems that reinstalling game helped, I was able to get to the basement (without having to set CPU affinity).

I experienced something similar on the 360. I went back and talked to the quest-giver and that was the event needed to get the key to the basement.
In any case, I am glad you were able to correct your problem
