Dalish Elf Mage Character?

Story inconsistencies bother me a lot. There are a few other story line problems but cant recall them right off hand and ask about them later. But I really would like to create a Dalish Elf mage warden character.
Now I am not a developer or anything but I would think they could follow the same story as the rogue or warrior and just change the character. I would like to see this as an update to the original game without charge as a mistake made at game creation.
But if push comes to shove, I would probably purchase this as some DLC/
Thanks for the time to anyone who can answer.

There is a mod that opens the mage class for a Dalish PC. I've been using it on my latest character and it works pretty well. I did start writing backstory (see signature) for her, precisely because it seemed like it needed some more explanation and foundation than a regular Dalish PC. Unfortunately the lore basis for the Dalish is so sketchy that it's hard to know what is "canon" and you have to fill in some blanks.

As for mods, I am computer challenged. There is some really interesting game stuff out there, but downloading these things really scare me. OK laugh if you must. If only I had a computer guru at home to fix any messed I could make. One can only wish.

I'm relatively new to using mods myself, though I don't remember how I ever played vanilla. It's not as complicated as it sounds- really and truly. I usually look at the comments and endorsements to make sure a mod has been well tested and doesn't have major problems.LillithMabon wrote...
Thanks for the reply. I wonder if now that they have a little more basis after Awakenings they could change this? One can only hope.

Here's the Dalish mage origin mod. Most mods have some basic instruction on how to install. They are typically either a dazip file or an override file. This one is dazip.
1- For dazip, download the file and extract it using something like WinRAR. WinRAR you can get on a free trial, after that you either have to pay for it or just get rid of the nag screen all the time. Then you drag the mod file into daupdater.exe (this comes with the game- find it using a file search) or a tool like DA Modder which does basically the same thing. DA Modder is pretty easy to use. It will both install and uninstall mods for you, so if you decide you don't like it, go back in and uninstall.
2- Override files you just drag and drop into the packages/core/override folder in your Dragon Age folder. If you want to uninstall the mod, you go into the override folder and just find the file and delete it.
Hopefully this helps, from one noob to another.

About the Dalish mage origin mod, the only real problem with it is that the Broken Circle quest is set up as "Circle mage returns" and there is really no way to circumvent that. So people in the Tower are going to "recognize" your PC. I had played the game through many times, so it didn't bother me to roleplay around this. Heh, my PC already thought the whole place was batsh*t crazy, so the fact that people kept thinking they recognized her added to the sense of paranoia and madness.LillithMabon wrote...
Thank you, I will see what I can do. (Shivers....)
This sort of challenge is just what I needed after so much play time, though. BTW I had a thread a while back on this subject. I'll go try to get a link. (Edit: Here you go.)

We have some examples in-game of Dalish mages- Velanna, Zathrian, and Merrill. That can at least give you some ideas. If you get into the mod thing, there is also a mod called Awakening in the OC which I think should allow you to have the Keeper skills.LillithMabon wrote...
Read a bit of your other thread, my idea for dalish mages would be more strongly controlling nature of sorts and of course the healing aspect. Maybe even using the good forces of the fade? Dunno, what ya think?
I went with shapeshifting as my character's primary. We know from a dialogue with Morrigan (I made a video of it here) that the Dalish use shapeshifting magic. Both Velanna and Merrill have flame-type spells, so I also made my mage a fireball chucker. But I think any primal spell line would be consistent.
In my backstory I did assume that the Dalish can manipulate Fade and local spirits because that is what we see Zathrian doing. He also obviously had blood magic. For my PC, I had her encountering and learning blood magic from Flemeth as a child, but mainly because I thought it made for an interesting story.
Sylaise is said to be the source of magical healing, so obviously that's important to elven magic, too.
Really I think any mage school you'd find in the Circle ought to be found in Dalish magic, it's just the attitude that is different.

Yes, Leliana sings In Uthenera which is the elven song of passing. They don't show Tamlen's funeral in the Dalish origin, do you mean the song that's playing when you are leaving the clan? I don't remember if it's the same tune or not.LillithMabon wrote...
Lots of good comments on the other thread about the possiblilities for a dalish elf mage origin. Also you commented on liking Leliana's song. Isnt that the same funeral song for Tamlen? It moves me also. I do wish there was more content for the dalish elves
In my story about the Tamlen shriek encounter, I had my character and Leliana singing In Uthenera. It seemed appropriate. I cried writing that.
If you're interested in the Dalish, check out my other videos. On this last playthrough I've been trying to record the Dalish-specific interactions in the game other than the obvious ones (the origin story etc.). There aren't enough! But more than you might think offhand.

Sorry I missed your question earlier. The Stolen Throne has a little bit about the Dalish. Very little, I'm afraid, but an interesting glimpse nonetheless.LillithMabon wrote...
I havent read the Dragon Age books, have you? I was wondering if more material is there.
The Calling has nothing about the Dalish really, though is a good story and features an elven mage from a city elf type of background. I liked both books.
I would like to hear the devs expand sometime on the elves' connection to the Fade. We know elves go to the Fade, but it must be different considering their past where they did not die but went to Uthenera. Uthenera= the Fade??

- Be sure you strip Merrill naked for her robe and staff at the very end
- Up until that point, play as a half-mage/half-warrior and you'll still do fine
In the Korcari Wilds and even afterwards, I used the Balanced Greatsword as my alt weapon (no min strength requirements) until I hit level 7 and took AW. From a role playing perspective, I played it that she'd been raised as a daughter of a female warrior/rogue and a male Keeper (which is of course the actual backstory) and her mage abilities were late-blooming.
I'd love to figure out how to mod the Circle and other areas to be able to account for elf+mage does not equal City Elf. Overall, though, it was a fun playthrough.
