  Yes, Giant Spiders

If there was one thing in DA:O that I did not enjoy, it was the Giant Spiders.  These cretinous invertibrates were just plain annoying to fight, with the web locks and chain overwealms leading to more TPKs than any Dragon in the game.  It's so annoying, that when I found a woodlouse spider in my shower, I was worrided I would be just one Overwealm away from a game-over screen!

Now I don't think its wild speculation to assume that Bioware is going to have Giant Spiders in DA2.  Every fantasy game that Bioware has made had Giant Spiders.  Heck, even ME2 had a couple Giant Spiders in it, Giant Spiders that fire FRIKING LASERS out of thier eyes!

I am not asking that they not be removed, I just want them changed away from the cheap TPKers of DA:O into somthing that would be fun to fight.  Maybr they could burst like a piniata when they die, therefore providing lootable candy for Hawke.  Its very imporant to keep blood sugar up when conquring the world after all!  Perhaps we could even find a nice Giant Spider, that prefers crotchet and pressing flowers to eating people.  Perhaps if you get your approval high enough, the spider could make you a silk hammock for when Hawke needs a power nap to charge is beard batteries.

Just somthing to consider Bioware, Ill see you in March.

P.S.
Also, Silk Hammocks, just a thought.

lol spiders have always been the most annoying creatures in any game they're in... because they all either trap you with a web or poison you or both. Truly horrible.

Yeah I never really got why every fantasy game always uses giant spiders. There other dangerous insects and the like that can be used. Giant ants, mantis and wasp/bees just to name a few. I do remember reading that some players had trouble getting through the Deep Roads because they have real life arachnophobia. I'm glad I don't but I can feel their pain.

Its not that Bioware put giant spiders in the game that bothered me, its how they were implemented.  Fighting a group of giant spiders was like fighting a pack of mabari, but worse.  At least the Mabari were cute.

If my character's a ranger, I would like to be able to use the creatures as transportation. For example, riding atop a giant poisonous spider and shooting people with a bow.

I remember Shadows of Undrentide had the giant Ants.

Spiders are a classic - think of the Cloakwood battles in Baldurs Gate 1 or the Crypt battle in Baldurs Gate 2. I would like them to return, but maybe with different abilties (overwhelm...? seriously? the lack of unarmed combat is a little bit... strange, anyway).

That Spider from Lord Of The Rings was pretty cool, they should rip it off.

The idea of an enemy that can't actually be killed but needs run away from (like little Frodo in Return Of The King) would be cool. Get that bit of him running away, without Sam fighting it, and it would be a good spider.

Perhaps Bioware should implement a mode for Arachnaphobes that turns giant spiders into kittens, and instead of fighting them, you had to nuggle them!

LOL I'm positive there were no spiders in both Mass Effects OP.

But yeah I agree, almost EVERY RPG I've stumbled across has giant spiders. Which I hate. I really, really, hate spiders.

Even KOTOR had mechanical spider robots ;)

But afaik Jade Empire didn't have any spiders in it. They had those masked ghosts fighting for the "most annoying enemy" title.

ME2 had Praetorians.  As in Giant Frikin Spiders made of PEOPLE that fired LASERS out of it eyes.  If you dont think they looked like spiders, then play the level were you control Joker and watch the one that comes out of the elevators, very spider-like to me!

Which I somehow doubt will be in DA2 seeing as how those are Fallout monsters.

Yeah, I just looked it up. They DO look like spiders. Eep. Can't believe I've beaten it without noticing. Once again in case anyone from BioWare reads this, I HATE spiders.

Considering thier made of people, they fly, and the shoot Lasers, its understandable.  The point I was trying to make in my OP is not whcih game monsters are worse, but that Bioware likes to put spiders in thier games, and they should make them fun to fight rather than annoying.

Who didn't love the spider wing in Naxxramas? And Maexxna was the biggest frickin' spider I've ever seen in a game.

The one "boss" fight in DA:O involving spiders was actually kind of fun, but I agree with the OP in general, they need more pizzazz. Maybe not lootable delicious candy, but making them more of a threat in later levels would be cool.

There's a big difference. I could oneshot mirelurks on crits halfway into FO3. Yao Guai can also be one shot kills if you have a sniper rifle and make a sneak critical headshot (or depending on your perks), but Yao Guai are hardly a threat past lvl 10. Otherwise equip your best gun and get a VATS headshot when they come close.

I've never been able to one-shot a spider in DA:O. (Peon's Plight and Arrow of Slaying are exceptions, but they'll oneshot any weak minion. I've yet to see a regular attack skill something other than a hurlock grunt in one hit)

At any level in Dragon Age, their web and overwhelms almost never fail. Such a ridiculous skill, it needs a higher failure rate and duration at the lower difficulties.
