Generally, I found the giant spiders of DAO creepifying. The last time I tested a plot in DA2, I wound up in battle against dozens upon dozens of identical, naked bald men named "Poison Spider." I think that was worse. Much worse.
Glorious alpha it is, then.

Anyhow
spiders were usually annoying enemies. I remember these guys from Doom
3.
Ugh, yeah, they were a nightmare, constantly respawning waves of spiders always attacking you in tightspaces where you couldn't avoid them and messing up your aim... The only enemy more annoying than the spiders were the boss spiders...

A recruitable spider would only be another puddle of spider juice or crispy spider on the trail to me. My beard will recharge its batteries by using the overwhelm attack on unsuspecting darkspawn. It may die from the blood one day, but today, it hunts..

Yes, Giant Spiders
If there was one thing in DA:O that I did not enjoy, it was the Giant Spiders. These cretinous invertibrates were just plain annoying to fight, with the web locks and chain overwealms leading to more TPKs than any Dragon in the game. It's so annoying, that when I found a woodlouse spider in my shower, I was worrided I would be just one Overwealm away from a game-over screen!
Now I don't think its wild speculation to assume that Bioware is going to have Giant Spiders in DA2. Every fantasy game that Bioware has made had Giant Spiders. Heck, even ME2 had a couple Giant Spiders in it, Giant Spiders that fire FRIKING LASERS out of thier eyes!
I am not asking that they not be removed, I just want them changed away from the cheap TPKers of DA:O into somthing that would be fun to fight. Maybr they could burst like a piniata when they die, therefore providing lootable candy for Hawke. Its very imporant to keep blood sugar up when conquring the world after all! Perhaps we could even find a nice Giant Spider, that prefers crotchet and pressing flowers to eating people. Perhaps if you get your approval high enough, the spider could make you a silk hammock for when Hawke needs a power nap to charge is beard batteries.
Just somthing to consider Bioware, Ill see you in March.
P.S.
Also, Silk Hammocks, just a thought.
The worst of these is the Orzammar Spiders. God, I hate those things. It was one of the WORST things I ever had to do in DA: O. I mean, seriously; the spiders were the ONLY thing in DA: O that I intended up hating more than the Dragons, which hardly ever caused a TPK. But GIANT SPIDERs.
I can't wait for DA: 2, but I swear, if there a Spiders that shoot laser beams out of their eyes (or magic, if you prefer), I will blame you. I will blame you so much for making a hated enemy of mine become even more hated and deadly! D:

Is it that any critter with more appendages that us just gets more alien and more creepy? I could believe that, after watching the latest iteration of King Kong, that scene in the chasm with all the bugs, I found a new thing to hate more than spiders........giant centipedes, ick.
Anyway spiders are the perfect mainstay critter. Lots of legs, many dead looking eyes, ambush predators alway shocking us as the appear.

I expect a giant spider companion and will boycott the game if there isn't one.
Was that Bioware or that other company they give expansion to, that gave us the creepy spider house guest in NWN2?

If I remember it correctly. The first stage of the Children were gigantic man-eating cockroaches. Except they had like human faces...
