What is it about spiders that make most all humans detest them, if not outright fear them? It isn't like we have some genetic memory of a time when giant spiders used to nab our young if we let the campfire burn too low.
Is it that any critter with more appendages that us just gets more alien and more creepy? I could believe that, after watching the latest iteration of King Kong, that scene in the chasm with all the bugs, I found a new thing to hate more than spiders........giant centipedes, ick.
Anyway spiders are the perfect mainstay critter. Lots of legs, many dead looking eyes, ambush predators alway shocking us as the appear.
Its more like the sub-concious memory of the way they feel skittering across your bare chest at night... I was like half asleep once and my chest tickled i swatted at it and it turned out to be a black widow..

Ha...ha... I have arachnophobia unfortunately and when I went into the Deep Roads...it was like playing Half-Life at the age of 7 all over again(Spiders aren't in HL but that game scared me at the time.)
Why the heck did a 7 year old play Half-Life to begin with?

They are sneaky!
A week ago I was washing my face in the bathroom and a bloody big spider descended from the ceiling and was 2 cms away from my face. I almost headbutted it into the mirror because it startled me but I've quickly changed my mind about that.

Just a couple days ago I was playing DA:O when I noticed movement out of the corner of my eye and saw a spider calmly dropping down from the ceiling onto my shoulder. I was, not surprisingly, fighting spiders in game.
Just figured I'd brighten the arachnophobes' day.

A few years ago when I was living in my college dorm I woke up one morning and my head was literally covered in spider webbing. My roommate and I never found the spider(s) that did it.

If my character's a ranger, I would like to be able to use the creatures as transportation. For example, riding atop a giant poisonous spider and shooting people with a bow.
Pfft, Hoversharks would make much better mounts.
No, the Mako!! (DA is a 2 dimensional game, remember)

But watching people with a fear of spiders flip the hell out is always fun!

Having your entire party immobilizaed as they rip you a new one pisses me off more then a dragon one hitting everyone for some reason.

I wonder what kind of noise they would make as they dropped randomly from the ceiling lol.Mary Kirby wrote...
Generally, I found the giant spiders of DAO creepifying. The last time I tested a plot in DA2, I wound up in battle against dozens upon dozens of identical, naked bald men named "Poison Spider." I think that was worse. Much worse.
OMG...

That being said though, if there are spiders in DA2, web should face a harder physical resistance check. It should only have a moderate chance to completely immobilize the subject, otherwise its just a movement/attack penalty.

Perhaps if you get your approval high enough, the spider could make you a silk hammock for when Hawke needs a power nap to charge is beard batteries.
Just somthing to consider Bioware, Ill see you in March.
P.S.
Also, Silk Hammocks, just a thought.
I believe this spider was in Neverwinter Nights 2.

Yao Guai and Mirelurk is the two worst ever
yaoi guai aren't that bad, their decision to charge right into gunfire makes them very easy to kill, I still hold fond memories of ducking as one pounced at me and shooting it under the chin with my railway rifle, sending it backflipping a good 100 feet away.

Actually I didn't mind the spiders that much; they were a nice challenge for awhile (I loved the encampment you could find randomly that was a spiders nest).

The real reason I didn't like them was because they came as a very quick surprise when I was walking in the night and gave me no chance of firing a shot
Deathclaws was a pain too
