Well some of my friends and people on Youtube mentioned how much better the original's soundtrack was. Anyone else feel the same way? I'm hoping the third will deliver on this front like the first one did. I mean, Suicide Mission is alarmingly addictive to listen to (listening to it now by the way), but that's really the only one from Mass Effect 2.

No I don't agree. Suicide Mission, Illusive Man, Tali's theme, the Normandy Reborn. All as good as anything in ME1.

They are both very fitting.

Shame the ME1 OST doesn't feature the music while you speak with Saren the last time.

This.

Also, the track "Perfect Ending" gives me goose bumps. Every time.

Nope. ME2 soundtrack is better then ME. There is only a few tracks from ME that I can remember, mE2 tho? I remeber almost the whole track, it's that fantastic.

ME1 is really good (Main theme, Vigil, Confrontation with Saren). But ME2 is amazing, the character themes are great, and "Suicide Mission" is probably my favorite track, it's always on my playlists, even the DLCs Kasumi and Overlord have great tracks.

Both sountracks have problem and it's plenty of missing tracks. I'll happily let go of some $$$ if they considered to release a "Lost Tracks" album.

In my opinion, the ME soundtrack is better, because it delivers a better ambiance in the game. The ME2 soundtrack sounds better-produced though (ME soundtrack was a bit shoddy at times in my opinion).

So: As a soundtrack, ME is better. As actual music, ME2 is better.

Were so screwed.......I like ME2's soundtrack better. ME1 is great though, No complaints on that one. I just hate it when they leave tracks out of the OST. Currently the Overlord combat theme is tied with Suicide Mission for my favorite ME2 song.

With ME1 I felt like the music "wasn't really there", except in the ending cutscene

ME2's is much better

Mass Effect's score was, in my humble opinion, a far more encompassing piece of work than Mass Effect 2 could muster. Perhaps the by comparison rather disembodied narrative contributed to that; but I never quite found the tunes of ME2 to hold the same sense of harmonious fusion with the context to which it was applied.

Certainly nothing as ambient as the Presidium theme.

That said, the soundtrack of ME2 has a few bright spots. Both Mordin's and Thane's themes were very nicely merged with their respective appearances.

Yeah, I prefer the first.

The second one is good, but its pretty much all just "music to shoot stuff to" i.e. combat/mission music.

ME1 had plenty of music for the games many significant EVENTS, which ME2 lacked by comparison (pretty much just opening collector ambush, second collecter ambush and the approach to the base). Since ME1s numerous events stick with me more than ME2s incessant "popping out of cover to shoot stuff over and over again", I much prefer ME1.

I think this is actually an extremely fair assessment. Also, while I can listen very happily to the the ME1 soundtrack, it won't pull me back into wanting to play it while listening, whereas the ME2 soundtrack will (especially End Run & Suicide Mission).

Both have really epic numbers, but why don't they just release the tracks that weren't on the OST?

Easy way to make some money.

ME1 music is good, but ME2's is better in my opinion, especially because it reflects the events of the game. I'll never forget the random Noveria battle theme playing while Benezia was dying, they wasted the opportunity of doing something epic.

On the other hand, the ME2 soundtrack can be considered an evolution of the ME1 soundtrack as it contains several hints to the first one (like the subtle Saren/Geth theme playing in Legion),

I like Mass Effect's music better and I listen to the soundtrack all the time. But I also think Mass Effect 2 has some really great songs (Like Tali, Legion, and Samara's theme. And the Collector theme)

Jack and Legion's were especially good IMO. Loved the heavy brass in the middle of Legions.

Nicely put. I agree with you there.
Listening to music out of game, I prefer ME2. But ingame I feel some of the ME1 ambient music captures the atmosphere very well.
In each I have tracks I like and those I don't like, so overall I'm 50:50.

I just wish they could have fit Sovereign's theme in Mass Effect 2 more. That was probably my favorite one in Mass Effect (next to Final Assault).

No ME2s soundtrack blows ME1 out of the water. ME1s was fitting, ME2's was incredible

They're both very good and fit their respective games. It just seems to be personal taste as to whether you prefer the more ambient music of ME1, to the darker, somewhat more conventional themes of ME2.

I have favourites from both and I won't judge between them, as it would be like choosing between cake and pie, when everything else is brussels sprouts.

The first games soundtrack had a very synthetic, sci-fi feel, while ME2 was more action slanted, orchestral stuff. I enjoy both, especially the new piece done for the fight sequences in overlord. That really had my blood pumping the first time through, and I feel it might be the single best bit of music from ME2. Still, the synthesized material from ME1 gave the game a more distinct feel. I believe that the soundtrack for ME3 should incorporate both sounds where appropriate. Synth in the more subdued areas & while exploring, and more orchestral during big CG sequences & battles.

the 2nd game's music is amazing, Suicide Mission especially, but I personally prefer the more synth oriented score of the 1st game. The 2nd game the synths were toned down a bit.
